• Black Range

The Black Range is the most imposing and intimidating of mountain ranges that the Terran landscape has to offer. They reach up to scrape the sky, rising like craggy towers and constantly afflicted by dark, ominous clouds and terrible weather. This range is home to the most feared of creatures.

Giants that romp about and patrol their territory unchecked, eating travelers whole or taking them home to supplement their meals of wild boar and bears, their brutish strength and wooden clubs wielding more power than a battalion of knights and their skin too tough to pierce with arrows.

Trolls nest here as well, in large clans and tribes that are as savage to one another as they are to strangers. Despite their barbaric tendencies and an overall offensive demeanor, the trolls are not without wit and intellect. They can mimic any sound they hear, having been known to communicate to one another with bird calls and whistles, or to lure hapless travelers to their deaths by imitating the sound of fresh-water streams or the words of friendlier humanoids.

Dragons are also rumored to have retreated past these mountains, nesting in the crests and peaks. At that altitude, and amidst the thundering storm clouds, very few men have managed to make it to the heights that the dragons are said to nest. Every year that brings adventurous fools pays off in dividends of accumulated corpses near the tops of the mountains. Although the rumored race of ancient wyrms are nearly extinct, their power is undeniable and even the memory of their presence, those unfortunate enough to have heard the vivid tales told by the refugees of the tribes once taking root at the base of these mountains, is enough to inspire fear.
