• Dark Forest

The Dark Forest isn't easily accessible. The formidable Black Range and the powerful amnesia arcana suffusing every inch of the Forgotten Wood do well to keep any mindless idiot from walking into the depths of this forest without clear and purposeful intent.

Sunshine is unheard of in the Dark Forest, though the impenetrability of the pervading darkness changes from location to location. In some places, it is as if a clear night is slightly overcast and starlight filters through the gaps in the branches, and no amount of pruning of the branches will shed more light. In other places, the dark is eternal and relentless. No light, natural or magical, has been able to pierce through the deep, dark veil settled firmly in place.

There are places where even arcane sight fails.

It is unclear whether the darkness is the work of some long forgotten mage or wizard, whether it is unnatural phenomena, or a by-product of more or less sinister means. Regardless of its cause of origin, the creatures of the night take refuge here, and those creatures that were around before the forest was blighted have adapted in startling, dangerous ways.

There is a single flower in this forest that offers some respite. A flower with a bright orange bud, white petals, and purple stripes along its stalk. If eaten whole, bud and stem, it will provide the user with sight that allows him to see in the night as if in day and in the day as if in night. The effects of this flower take one full minute to activate and last for an hour.

The Dark Forest is one of two places that is theorized to house the fable iron rod of Peter the Dark. The other is the Forgotten Wood.
