The national sport of Terrenus. The game is played with a ball of concentrated energy, whose volatile nature demand that the ball be dribbled periodically or the handler risks severely burning or damaging his hands. Points are scored when the ball makes it into the other team's basket. The court is separated by at least a dozen lines, sometimes more depending on the occasion, and the farther away a shooter is from the basket, the more points he earns.
Magic is prohibited, but racially specific biological functions are allowed. A sorcerer could not use telekinesis in-game, but a Minotaur is allowed his natural strength. In the higher level competitive situations, both teams are usually humanoid with races adjusted to the position.
Olympic applications seek to gauge the ability of single participants rather than the efficiency of a team, and so a player must seek to score and must seek to do so with as little damage done to him as possible. The opposing team will almost always be a dire kraken.
Although violence is not the focus of the sport, it is a common and accepted practice. The game where players leave unscathed is an absolute rarity. Despite the savage aggression displayed in-game, teams tend to be on very friendly terms with one another outside of the court. Some even pray together before a game.
Positions
Handler: Assigned to the player that can gracefully direct and maneuver the ball with as a little effort as possible. Not the fastest or strongest player on a team, but one with a very strong sense of proprioception. Handlers and seekers work in tandem to move the ball into the hands of the shooter. A rule of thumb commonly applied is 'the more arms the better'.
Seeker: The fastest player on the team. The seeker's primary responsibility is to take the ball away from the handler. His secondary responsibility is to get the ball to the other side of the court. His tertiary responsibility is to distract the opposing defenders and give the shooter enough time and space to do his job properly.
Shooter: The player with the greatest degree of accuracy. A shooter should be able to score a goal from half a court away, lacking distractions. Balls can be blocked mid-air, and this makes the shooter's job much more difficult. More experienced shooters use dynamic angles to make impossible shots.
Defender: The strongest player on the team, and also the one that can take the most damage. The defender does not move very frequently, or very quickly, and will spend nearly all of their time near their own basket. It is their job to block a ball from going into the basket, regardless of whether this means stopping the ball or stopping the players.
