Noxious Fumespitter
Name Noxious Fumespitter
Type Arachnid/Arachnoid (Humanoid Arachnid)
Size Large (8-16 feet / 500 lbs - 2 tons)
Entry The Noxious Fumespitters are a deadly breed of giant spiders found throughout Valucre. They answer to their queen, the Noxious Widow, and live in hives. They are peculiar creatures, as they defy the logic of most spiders which live alone, and they retain a bit of animalistic sentience amongst one another. Aside from the queen, there are three main subclasses of the Fumespitter. The Huntress, The Assassin, and the Drone.
The Noxious Fumespitter is named for its unique abilities involving its venom. With most arachnids, the venom must enter the bloodstream to have any effect. However, with the Fumespitter, this rule does not apply by any means. When injected into the bloodstream, all Fumespitter venom is the same: It paralyzes the prey alive, slows their heartbeat to a near-death state, and allows the Fumespitter to encase them in web and take them home for feeding. A Fumespitter ejects their venom into the air. As per the nature of Fumespitter venom, it dissipates in the open air and becomes a cloud of fumes, or miasma. When a Fumespitter ejects its venom, it can have a vastly different effect.
The Huntress' fumes are quite toxic, they shroud the senses into a cloudy fog and render the prey unconscious, so that the huntress may move in for the kill.
The Assassins' fumes are quite disorienting, infecting the mind and stomach with nausea and vertigo causing the senses total confusion until the Assassin strikes, bringing down its target with one fell swoop.
The Drone's venom is the most deadly of all. Fortunately, for you, drones never leave the hive. The Drone is the Fumespitter that guards the hive and protects the queen. Their venom is acidic when in fume form, eating through most natural materials and skins. This leaves chemical burns, and eliminates any threats to the safety of the queen, or the hive.
