    Apemen Clans - Warrior Aristocracy

While considered solitary creatures, the Apemen are, in fact, honor-bound to their clans. An Apeman who is seen away from his/her clan is almost always on a mission prescribed for him/her by the clan's leader or has been banished from his/her clan. Those who have been banished are known as 'Gral Koll'. On the very rare occasion, an Apemen leader may be seen away from his/her clan and only in dire circumstances. An Apemen leader may be male or female, but the rights to attain such leadership are always the same, regardless of gender. Once every five years, the clan's leader, 'Drek Thier' or 'Crowned One', may be challenged for his/her position. This ceremony is known as 'Drek k'Thier' or 'The Crowning'. The 'Drek k'Thier' is a melee battle, to the death, between challenger and leader. Only warriors may issue the challenge and once issued, may not be recalled.

Before birth, a special council composed of four of the most elite Shamans, known as the 'Sri Be'Loc', are summoned before the expectant mothers of the clan to perform what is known as 'Kar Lear'. During this ceremony, a casting of bones is read for each unborn child. It is this reading that determines the fate, and class, of each child regardless of the social class of his/her parents. Once born, the child will be raised by its mother. Upon the child's fifth birthday, the child begins his/her training under the social class of which his/her reading was cast.

There are three social tiers within each clan.

Warriors - The highest tier of an Apemen clan, these members are the clan's socialite elites. Males and females who have been trained in the art of war since the age of five. They are responsible for the creation of the laws of the clan and are quick to enforce the law.

Shamans - The healers and magic users of the Apemen clan, these members are responsible for the emotional, mental and physical health of all clansmen as well as preserving the history of the clan.

Commoners - All other members of the Apemen clan. Merchants, farmers, hunters, smithies, etc. are all members who are considered to belong to the lowest social tier and as such, are deeply respected since the entire clan is rooted in the Commoners' responsibility to provide.
