    The World

This will be updated or replaced when we get a proper world map going, but until then I thought I'd make this thread to answer some of the more common questions among new and old members alike. This will be brief, meant only to give you an orientation of each continent or kingdom, and some possible methods of travel to and from. Each section will have a brief sentence describing size and orientation, then a spoiler with more information ripped from the RP FAQ.

Valucre the planet is double the size of our planet and, much like our planet, is made up mostly of water.

Terrenus. Lies to the North-East and is twice the size of the North American continent.

    Spoiler:
A large and diverse land once afflicted by constant strife and internal war. Terrenus was later brought to union by the efforts and achievements of a single man. Odin Haze, their king and Saint. Terrenus is regarded as the birthplace of contemporary Gaianism, for it is here that Odin established the First Church.

Here one can find the usual attractions of a high-fantasy setting. There are taverns and inns, guildhalls and gangs, diverse races complete with unique issues and tensions and, one of the more prevalent themes for Terrenus, extensive magi-tech.

Upon special request or notification to the board owner (supernal), special vocations such as blacksmith, high ranks in the military, leader of your own gang, representative of a foreign nation, and nearly anything else that comes to mind can be worked out. This courtesy of notification is for special circumstances only, such as if you want to rewrite the part of a canon or begin the life of an important person in media res as opposed to a bottoms-up approach.

Aside from these positions of particular influence, anyone and everyone is welcome to do as they like in Terrenus if they can manage to do so without being an ass.

A quick side note. The level of technological advancement in Terrenus has occasionally been a subject of curious debate. Although one will find terms like 'satellite' and 'missile' used throughout the board, understand that the end-product is different than what might immediately come to mind. For example, Terrenian satellites are floating rocks with a serious of complicated glyphs etched on them, and missiles are little more than pointy rocks launched and controlled by native Gaianists. That said, what Terrenus can achieve with magi-tek rivals and often surpasses electricity based tech of most 'modern' and 'futuristic' conception.

Genesaris. Lies to the North-West, and is the approximate size of Eurasia (The combination of Europe and Asia for those of you that didn't know)

    Spoiler:
Magical storms rage forth from the mountains, transforming all caught in its wrath. Portals lead to mysterious planes while mystical doorways open into lost underground cities. Wield a gun or a sword, sling a spell or train a dragon. Be an Edgemaster or assassin, a scholar or a simple adventurer with wanderlust. Genesaris encompasses anything - everything.

A massive continent and a world of its own, Genesaris was once hidden from sight, locked behind a barrier erected by the three High Lords. Extremely diverse and free, Genesaris is home to countless races and cultures. It is a land of war and peace, complete with a rich history. This is the home of Altus Arcantium, the God of Mysteries and a major religion and many other beliefs, traditions, and diversified people.

On many levels Genesaris is high fantasy, fraught with enchantment. However, in major cities there is no lack of amazing technology complimented and enhanced with sorcery. Airships, a fine example of magi-tech, rule the skies as the most prominent means of travel for luxury and warfare.

Guilds and quests are plenty in Genesaris. The board owner (The Hummingbird) is fun-loving and will easily cooperate with you if you want permission or help for any quests or create your own special group or station. Permission however, is rarely needed because Genesaris is meant for any players; beyond the boundaries of Genesaris’ main land are many more worlds. The Hummingbird can be easily contacted for any questions or concerns, or even suggestions to expand the land.

Tellus Mater: South-East, and contains several separate territories.
    Spoiler:
The territory of three kings. Three separate countries with separate governing bodies. Renovatio flies in the sky; Muhir and Rosinder are connected by land.

    - Muhir occupies northern Tellus Mater is and approximately 1.5 times the size of Alaska.
    Spoiler:
A theocracy, properly, governed by its church. The religious practices of Aeliyr are unique to its domain. The leader of the church, and of the kingdom, is Pope Marcel, a just and fair leader that remains to his duties with the church and cannot be swayed by the corruption that often besieges other men. Aeliyr is fairly advanced in its magitek and CROSS, the name given to the military faction of its church, can be considered its special forces.

    - Rosinder occupies eastern Tellus Mater and is approximately the of Texas.
    Spoiler:
Rosinder was built to fit the sword and sorcery mold, as a relatively primitive country whose citizens are engaged in a struggle to keep outside socioeconomic forces, technology in particular, from encroaching upon their vaunted traditions.

Its place in the world, geographically at the heart of Tellus Mater, is particularly rich in arable land and exotic natural resources, accounting for why so many outside forces have attempted to invade Rosinder. It has only ever suffered from drought or famine from mismanagement of resources; its climate has no dry season. Most of the lands are politically divided into baronies, counties and duchies, similar in function to feudalism.

    - Renovatio is the size of Alaska and floats in the air ~4 miles in the air, riding the border between Rosinder and Paragon, with a port for its airships stationed between the two territories.
    Spoiler:
Renovatio is composed of several city-states which diversify from one another greatly. Despite each and every provinces differences, they all share one thing: Faith. Through religion-- the word of Tellus Mater --the entire nation of Renovatio only knows of calm. A great peace that could only be disrupted by the brute force of war. Arguably, Renovatio is a land of the most advanced technology, with mechanized tanks and machine guns at their disposal.

    - Paragon occupies western Tellus Mater and is also the size of Texas.

Iselyr. Occupies the South-West of the globe and is the size of South America.

To give everyone a frame of reference, Rosinder can fit twice-over in Terrenus's Shawnee Glacier.

    Possible modes of transportation:
    - Sea-ship
    - Air-ship
    - Warp-Gates (From Terrenus, one way)
    - Submarines
    - Cruise ships (mostly from and returning to Muhir)
    - Personal transport (personal ship, personal flyer, kraken, etc)

    Flora & Fauna

In their exploration of the vast, nearly limitless world, before them the players might find themselves curious and wondering as to the indigenous plant and animal life to be found on the canon world of Valucre. If you recall Valucre is twice the size of earth and, like earth, made up mostly of water. It isn't too jarring or alien a setting, providing a dynamic canvas that one can create upon without the setting intruding upon the writer's creation.

One thing that the player-writer ought to keep in mind at all times is that Valucre as a world is made up of continents and territories, each one ruled by a board leader that have their own rules and their own ideas on what should be happening on their land. If you want to know specifics about plant life in Terrenus, talk to me. If you want to know specifics about plant life in Genesaris, talk to Hummingbird.

The best way to conceive about flora and fauna as a standard is to draw upon the many similarities and parallels between Valucre and our world. Example. Valucre has fir and pine and maple and oak trees, just like our world. And then in addition to that, we'll find plant-life that may have been featured in previous RPG games or media, or that are a completely custom made user creation.

Another example. In Valucre there are horses, deer, dogs and turtles but there are also custom-made user created races like the Suujali and spin-offs like the body-snatchers.

A third and final examples. There are plenty of humans, but there are also vampires, drow, golems, and any number of other user-created content or derivative works.

Though not all-encompassing, you can click on the link below to visit the World Bestiary. All entries there are user-created and are meant to allow the player-writer to make his or her thread more inclusive of the general atmosphere.
