The process whereby a thread or group of threads is approved and integrated with the Valucre canon. Canonization is not a necessity and should not be treated as such. Many members can, and have, had a great deal of impact without seeking approval for integration.
You can view the form to submit for canonization by clicking here.
Why this whole process?
Some members in the past have felt a bit helpless in terms of impacting the forum settings or canon, failing to realize that canonization isn't necessary to have a grand or epic storyline. For those that want to, we're trying to automate the process as much as possible to avoid long wait times and congestion.
Submission does not mean approval. Depending on what is submitted, a board leader might reject or request revision as they see fit. Impacting regional canon means wanting to effect change on something that another writer or writers took time to create, and sometimes the depth of that isn't seen on the surface. We don't take it lightly, even though when done right the process is relatively painless.
Examples of actions that you SHOULD attempt to canonize:
- Completing a local quest. This is the most common method to achieve canonization
- Assassination of a listed political figure
- Destroying, rebuilding or renovating a listed establishment
- Becoming a listed figure (a mayor, chief of police, serial killer)
Examples of actions that you SHOULD NOT attempt to canonize:
- Assassination of a political figure in an insular plot-line.
- Moving to a different nation and becoming a citizen.
- Your character's death (unless in such a way as to truly impact canon).
- Killing NPC's.
- Destroying a readymade town.
Canonization: An Example
1. Pick a regional quest
2. Complete the quest. The detail need not be excessive but it should be sufficient to justify what you want to make or gain from the thread
3. Attach a summary at the end. Summaries are to avoid the congestion that would come from a board leader having to find the time to read, and then actually read, a 5 page thread
4. Submit Canonicity form
If approved then voila, your character(s) and exploits get recorded into the relevant article for the foreseeable future.
Canonization: No Need
Below is an example of a well done and properly executed thread that gets the players some good spoils and plot advancement but does not require canonization. Canonization was not required, despite the player making up an underwater civilization.
1. Create a thread. In this case, Into the Waves is a mission created and completed by agents of the Dead.
2. Complete the quest. The detail need not be excessive but it should be sufficient to justify what you want to make or gain from the thread.
3. Attach a summary at the end. Although not necessary for canonization, it's always advisable to keep a clean, clear track record of spoils and exploits should it become a point of contention in the future.
