Nyssian Mountains
Five mountainous peaks, which are each connected by narrow "spines". Located north of Le'Chery and northeast of E'Kraun. The base of its southwestern-most peak, Mt.Vaystreoul, blends into the forests of E'Kraun. Entrances to its many twisting, labyrinthine caverns may be found in E'Kraun.Indigenous peoples include Apemen, Orcs, Goblins, Dwarves, and very few Humans.
Within Mt. Vaystreoul lies the mighty Steelhammer clan's stronghold. Ruled by the deceiver, Bazrok, the Steelhammer clan provides Xaroc's forces with the materials needed to forge their weapons, thus forming an alliance that provides a bounty of benefits for both sides.
Mt. Nuruva, located northeast of Le'Chery, is home to the Kazaduum clan. Ruled by Rogtham, the true King of the Mountains, the Kazaduum clan provides most of Isélyr with the materials needed to forge their weapons.
Mt. Dasra, Mt. Rosiram, and Mt. Ribeha separate the rival clans' strongholds, allowing them both to mine the valuable resources within the Nyssian Mountains in relative peace, though a few minor skirmishes may occur.
Regional Fauna:
Indigenous species to these mountains, or within their bowels, include hardy specimens of mountain goats, winter hares, bobcats, elk, various predatory birds, insects, squirrels and other such creatures. Their giant cousins may be found, as well as other more rare and dangerous species of animals.
Worm Brood:
Ten to twelve inches long, these worms are found in clusters of thirty or more clinging to cavernous walls and ceilings. They have three jaws, armed with teeth, that form a Y-shape with powerful suckers at each end of their bodies. Worm broods found clinging to ceilings are more deadly than those found retreated to the cave walls. As travelers pass beneath them, the entire brood will release their grip and drop down to feed. Once they've fed, they retreat to the sides of the caverns to digest their meal.
Tunnel Beasts
These two foot long, eyeless, snake-like creatures burrow their way through the rocky belly of the Nyssian Mountains. The only way to distinguish their tail from their head is the tapered shape of its mouth. Rows of chiseled teeth allow these animals to crush the rock and precious gems they burrow through, leaving behind a fine sand.
Jelly Beetle:
These harmless creatures can be found in the darkest areas of the twisting, winding labyrinths deep within the Nyssian Mountains. Special glands produce a jelly-like substance which emits a soft glow that can illuminate an area of five feet. They're also rather delicious roasted over a fire, or so I'm told by travelers who have miscalculated their provisions.
Frost Shade:
Trapped in the icy grip of snow and ice and slowly frozen to death, these specters were once human. Eternally cursed, these soul less beings seek out anything (or anyone) warm and drain it of its warmth which somehow increases the Frost Shade's strength.
Ice Worm
Nearly fifty feet in length, this serpent's massive body is covered in a thick coat of white fur instead of scales. The hide of this beast is highly sought after for its warmth and water-proof qualities. Ice Worms use their surroundings to their advantage, blending in with its environ before lashing out with either its tail or an attempt to constrict its prey before swallowing it whole.
Regional Flora:
Depending on the elevation at which an adventurer stands, a kaleidoscope of flora may be found here. Poplar, spruce, and fir trees dot the snowy passages, various mushrooms grow silently within the caverns while tiny meadows filled with various wildflower blooms grow adjacent to the fast moving rivers that empty into Lake Pareil. Other rare species blossom here as well.
Cursed Pudding:
Cursed Pudding resembles a blob of decomposing milk-colored matter with mushroom like matter growing from it. The mushroom caps vary in color. Extrudes a small tube from beneath the mass which shoots a glob of acid at its foe. Immune to poison.
Green Stone Crawler:
At first glance, the Green Stone Crawler is usually mistaken for common lichen. However, unlike common lichen, this plant has the ability to move and has a nasty craving for human flesh. Immune to elemental magic.
Rust Spores:
Several species of Rust Spores populate this region. The two most common are the Snowy (found growing on the snow-covered cliffs) and the Gray (found growing on the walls of caverns). Both species are mushroom like in appearance. Their caps release hundreds of spores that attach themselves to metals to spawn a new colony. The root system of these mushrooms turn the metal to rust, making it virtually useless.
