Please be patient. This lore is currently being written and is subject to change. Please check back regularly for updates, pictures, and information about joining this group, combat-based rp. These pictures are not mine and have been found from various sources (ie games, deviantart, concept art, etc) for the sole purpose of inspiring writers to understand the world of Gethsemane.

The History

In the world of Gethsemane, technology was strictly prohibited by the Children of the Sand – the Mar`ishi – known for their fickle temperament. If the Mar`ishi could not have unadulterated obedience to his/her law, the result was absolute punishment.

Any man who defied the Verdant Law would plunge the rainforest into an amber wasteland. In qualm of the Verdant Law, the citizens of Gethsemane refrained from progressing against their primal nature, clutching steadfast to the Keen of the Earth.

The Keen grew close to her faithful in return, and granted them resonance with her spirit so that her children and her children’s children began to vaunt extraordinary elemental powers. Although magic was predominantly used to protect and uphold the Verdant Law, the Yakara, citizens of Gethsemane, had become so intellectual and adept with their gifts that the Children of the Sand bent their gaze.

The prowess too great to keep hidden, the Mar`ishi grew angry despite their followers remaining steadfast to the Verdant Law; and, in hysteria, they stretched forth the Encroaching Sand across Gethsemane until the Keen of the Earth fell silent.

Trying to fight against the Encroaching Sand, the Yakara divided themselves into two sects: the magic wielding Midori, who held fast to the Verdant Law and sought to reawaken the Keen of the Earth - and the blade-wielding Santestu: dervishes whom ruled by blade and by blood who deemed the Encroaching Sand a just punishment.

They hunted each other with extreme prejudice until their hatred grew into a sport. Midori were prized for their blood – capable of granting extraordinary abilities to its bearer while the Santetsu were prized for their heads – displayed in Midoran cities as the testament to overcoming barbaric society.

As time dwindled, the Encroaching Sand swallowed Gethsemane, and the Midori, in their defiance, built vast city-states that stretched for dozens of miles. Metal metropolises dominated the Western Continent while porcelain pagodas towered to the Heavens in the Utter East.

We, the Reticent, the Waiting, watch from behind our aboriginal homes aching for the one who will settle the score with the Mar'ishi to restore flora to our barren world. The obtainer of the Fertile Crescent, lost to Chronicle, has yet to reknown himself. Will you be the one to rouse the Keen of the Earth?

The Sects

The Midori

The Victorian Steampunk Aficianados of the world who pride themselves on advanced technology. Ironically, they admonish their rise from barbaric society but demonstrate a sickly ruthlessness in how they publicly execute Santetsu, often convicting them without trial or parading them in coliseums for extravagant and hideous deaths. Blind to their own arrogance, Midori still claim to be able to hear the Keen of the Earth because they can wield elemental powers, though they are otherwise deaf to its true wisdom.

There are four schools of the Midori: Air, Fire, Water, Earth. Any virtuoso may undertake any occupation he/she deems with little fault. Although they are high in intelligence, their wisdom of the world is severely lacking as they have a fear of wanderlust.

Midori also take double penalties for exposure to the Sands.

The Santetsu

The mighty blade-wielding armistice from the Utter East who are as skilled with a katana as the Midori are with a wand. Capable of near inhuman abilities with speed, agility, and strategy, the Santetsu hunt Midori with ferocity and stealth. They seek to break the Midori of their arrogance, seeking the penance of the Verdant Law by returning Midoran Blood to the Keen of the Earth.

The Reticent

Mysterious aboriginal elders said to have a deep connection with the Infernal Powers. Sometimes referred to as, "The Waiting," these primal people often fool newcomers with their gentle demeanor by remaining silent about their awesome abilities. Devout ritualists by nature, Reticents can summon amazing creatures, resurrect the dead, and animate festering corpses.

They do have a primary city located somewhere in the center of the Great Continent, but prefer to travel despite the Encroaching Sands. Of all the races next to the Mar'ishi, they have the strongest resistance to the Sand by calling forth incredible Infernals that devour the dust of the desert.

The Mar'ishi

Deadly dervishes seeking to inflict decay on the entire world. Fearful of the Midori, they continued the tradition of their Progenitors by hunting down every last life form and conjoining it with the Sand. Mar'ishi are terrifying in that they are not only capable of controlling pestilence, but can control the Sand itself (it is also rumored that senior elders can manipulate glass).

Fanatically, a Mar'ishi does not seek immunity from the Sand, but oneness with it. For this reason, their extravagant powers come at a staggering price - every-time a player demonstrates an incredible feat of the Sand, he/she will slowly turn into dust.

Rogues

A medley of skilled off-worlders, most Rogues come to Gethsemane in search of the Fertile Crescent - an artifact that will fetch a ridiculous fortune on any other planet. Predominantly gunslingers by trade, Rogues prefer not to be caught up in planetary politics but are always suckers for a paycheck. They find most of their discord with the Reticent who have little patience for their wanton pockets.
