The Hummingbird

Two more insane movies.

It's been a while since watching Cannibal Holocaust, Chaos, and A Serbian Film. All three movies depicting disturbing violence, gore, and at least one rape scene.

Why do I watch these movies? Why do I go out of my way to find them?

Well, I don't go out of my way to find them. Somebody else finds them for me. As for watching them, sometimes the most interesting movies are the ones that have been created by the most demented minds this side of the Milky Way.

So I bring you two more movies. You might have actually heard of them: I Spit On Your Grave and Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom. As with everything, full of spoilers.

The first movie is pretty standard. It's another Last House on the Left story. A couple rural guys break into a girl's quiet getaway, rape her several hundred times, humiliate her, and beat her senseless. Barely surviving, she sets out to get revenge on them.

Revenge having to do with strangulation, drawing crows to peck out a guy's eyes forced open by fish hooks, dipping a guy in lye, and castrating another. You start to wonder just who you're supposed to feel sorry for. One thing's for sure, the rape scene is probably the longest I've ever had to sit through. Forget Chaos, this is where the shit's at.

Now Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom. Four authoritative figures of Italy kidnap a group of boys and girls and lock them all up in a secluded castle. Their goal is simple. The four men want to experience the ultimate pleasure through orgies using these boys and girls.

And they are all ass men. Meaning they love the butt. You can see where this is going.

The movie is based on a book and divided like Dante's Inferno into the Anteinferno, where the story is set up, The Circle of Mania, where most of the sodom part takes place, The Circle of Shit, where they eat the title, and The Circle of Blood, where the story completely stops making sense and you're wondering why, why, WHY FOR GOD'S SAKE.

If you've heard of this massive shame, you probably heard of its graphic depictions of rape and cruelty. Well, it's not that bad. The coprophagia is definitely disgusting, but a good portion of the movie is narrative, and some of the victims actually enjoy their situation. The end sequence, where the real violence takes place, is horrifying but standard.

It's pretty hard, then, to say what makes this particular film so off-putting. Maybe it's when they all eat the contents of a thousand chamber pots? Maybe it's when they have a Best Shapely Ass Contest? Maybe it's when the four guys dress in drag and marry themselves off to other guys?

The movie is based off a book written in a prison, on a single piece of scroll. The prison was raided, you see, and the author wept over its loss only later, the scroll was found, apparently having escaped the attention of the robbers.

I have a theory. They found it, they just didn't want to have anything to do with it.

Neither did a lot of countries, banning this film post haste.

If anyone has titles of movies that might just possibly equal these disturbing nightmare reels, tell me. I think I can handle just about anything now.

Downloading them both now. Hopefully they aren't a let down. A Serbian Film was fantastically sick.
