Valucre's Newsletter!

I was browsing Valucre's newsletter, a first I admit, since I figured I knew everything there was to know just by reading the posts on the forum, and I was more than surprised by how well thought out the newsletter was and how well it looked. It's seriously a fucking beautiful set up and flows so nicely from one part into the next making me wish there was more to read by the end, lol.
By anyways! To my point. I came upon a box dubbed 'Writing Prompt' and was tickled by the idea of writing something random based off of one of three openings provided, so, here goes... It's rough, so bear with me.
―"Shh, did you hear that?"
Two shadows huddle together behind the trunk of an ancient oak, nearly invisible to anyone not specifically looking. They dart their heads this way and that, nervously trying to see what made the ominous groan of despair heard only seconds ago. But fail, with their limited night vision, to see anything but dry leaves pushed across the grounds by an angry wind.
"How am I supposed to hear anything with your teeth chattering constantly?"
I'm sorry, but it's COLD."
"Duh. Did you think that the dead," he smirks at this, given their surroundings, "of Winter, outside, at night would be balmy?"
"Well..."
"Nevermind. You're useless."
"Hmph."
Ignoring his companion for the moment Gabe does another sweep of the grounds, his brown eyes appearing black in the shadows as they try in vain to uncover some sinister force haunting their steps. "It's probably nothing, or maybe it's your stomach crying out for you to eat something."
As the two dark masses step from behind the oak their figures become more definable. "Gaaabe, you promised me a scary movie, not a creepy walk in some old cemetery." The slender of the two, and obviously female whines impetuously, on the verge of hysterics that her boyfriend is in no mood for.
"Hush up Trina, this is way more interesting than some dumb slasher flick on my parents ancient 30 inch." Fumbling for her hand he finds it and takes it firmly, steering her back towards the gravel path only feet ahead of them. "Besides, I'm cold now too, let's just go back to my house. If we're lucky Friday the 13th isn't over yet and we can catch the ending."
An excited bob of her head is Trina's only response, her cold hand turning sweaty in his own. Taking it back she rubs her palm roughly against her jean clad thigh while focusing only on the faint blob of light in the distance she knows to be a street lamp on the corner of Main. I'll show him when we get back, no sex tonight buddy! See if he talks to me like that again. Her thoughts ramble on like this for awhile while the two walk side by side, neither making an attempt to hold hands again, for varied reasons.
"Trina... Did you really hear something or were you just being paranoid?"
"I swear I heard a groan, like somebody was in pain or upset or something."
The walk in silence for maybe two minutes before Gabe voices his thoughts once more, "Where was it coming from?" Bolstered by the sights and sounds of approaching civilization his fear wanes in favor of morbid curiosity.
"Like.."
The loud crunching of gravel assaults their ears, as if someone big is running quickly across the uneven path.
"...right behind me."―
