I was going to make this long winded and entertaining, but in short. . .

Got hit with a virus that not only wiped off everything on my laptop but also everything on my external hard drive. Everything I've ever worked on in any capacity over the last 2 years is gone:

Theses
Novels
Short stories
Copy
Songs
Books
Portfolios
Business

Gone.

So that sucks.

I imagine you've already attempted using data recovery software? It may be that the virus only did one pass, and it takes 7 passes or more in order to really and permanently delete data. Otherwise it's just that the data is being over-written but it is still there.

HBCD, Version 12.0 Revisited is a Linux-based Boot CD that has everything you need to discover those lost files. Searches can take as little as 12 minutes or so. I use it quite often and have saved ALOT of deleted files and even have restored damaged clusters.
