I am logical, and have difficulty being empathetic with others. But I am learning, day by day, as a child would learn to crawl then walk. I consider myself an intellectual, someone who seeks intelligent pursuits as opposed to an existence of triviality and superficiality. I am inquisitive and analytical, sometimes to the point of mercilessness. I challenge tradition and defend efficiency. I live for love, freedom, and constant self-improvement. I'd die for any of those things, too.

There is a phrase that is proper for any occasion. A phrase uttered in those bittersweet moments, in which we know the euphoria we are experiencing will eventually forsake us, leaving us feeling empty and cheated. Then there are those moments in which we suffer a torment so great, so painful, that we curse the world and the evil that plagues it. But no matter the spectrum of our experiences, we utter this phrase, knowing that the sun will rise again.

I used to think god was in the sunset
or was the sunset
at that age most things you believe in
don't need to be explained fully
just felt the way you feel
that nervous ache in your chest
right before
the collapse

at half my current height the towers of the power plant
I can see from everywhere in this town
were cloud makers
but mom told me those puffs of white
were only steam
