    The Academy

    Table of Contents

Geography - The Area, Ponkapoang Lake.

    1. The Gaian Academy campus. It is located in Ponkapoag Lake. For reference, see: map of Terrenus.

    2. The Harbor, featuring beaches and a Tenku, or Kill Ball court.

    3. The S.S. Academia, the official ship of the Gaian Academy which ferries supplies and sometimes students, such as for various field trips, through the newly canaled Ponkapoag Brook and the South Sea.

    4. The Graveyard, where masses of creatures from all over Terrenus come to die. Studies in zoology and religious ceremonies are done here.

    5. The Outdoor Training Grounds, a skeleton of what was once an ancient Drow city, now abandoned. Entrances to the Underdark have been sealed. . . supposedly.

    6. The Painted Forest, which features the park, complete with playgrounds and a fountain.

Geography - The Campus, Gaian Academy

    1. The main lecture halls and classrooms.

    2. A Gaian Temple.

    3. The student dormitories. There are eight houses to accommodate each year of students, with the first housing being the largest, having to house the largest number of new enrollees, and the eighth house being the smallest, as more and more people are weeded out due to the stringent requirements of each class. Features a Free Gate, allowing limited school sponsored travel across Terrenus.

    4. The repair room and supply store, where supplies can be custom ordered or crafted.

    5. The auditorium with an observatory.

    6. Cafeteria and mess hall. Meals are served three times a day.

    7. Faculty and alumni housing, including lounge, indoor pool and an unrestricted Free Gate, among other luxuries.

    8. The Indoor Training Grounds, featuring a rift generator that can connect to up to five demiplanes enchanted with polymorph, allowing them to take on the appearance of virtually any setting, although they are limited in size.

    9. The Infirmary, with the most advanced healing clerical magitech in Terrenus.

    10. The Greenhouse! Planterrific!

    NPC Teachers

    Table of Contents

    WIP

    Spoiler:
    Traps Teacher

Mr. Eric Brown, grandson of the fabled general Edward Brown, took up teaching this class after his grandfather's promotion and his father decline of the position, not for lack of want. Mr. Brown is agreeable but sometimes painfully straightforward. He enjoys wordplay and will often lay conceptual 'traps' for his students, believing one needs a sharp mind and sharp body both, and prefers the law of the jungle to societal conventions. He encourages his students to fight but prohibits displays of direct force.

    Adventure Teacher

Mr. Bruce Hickson provides his students with a surprising and refreshing duality of being. On the one hand, the man is a bit of a dandy. He obsesses over cleanliness constantly, often complains about his sensitive stomach and is never seen without his monocle. On the other hand Mr. Hickson is bold, sometimes to the point of being impetuous, excessively demanding of himself and his students, strictly disciplined and, seemingly, without fear.

    Herbalism Teacher

The wings that follow Mrs. Julianne Korana around are not actual wings, but are the conscious pods of the plants surrounding the base of Yggdrasil. She can float atop of them at will. Ms. Korana is generally agreeable and of a pacifistic nature, considering the life of even the tiniest bug or blade of grass to be precious. Save for when she is lecturing on the many uses of this or that herb or the history of this or that plant, Ms. Korana is very reserved and quiet. She is content merely observing where others cannot bear the silence.

    Folk Magic

Miss Holly Hexata. She dresses provocatively on purpose as she feels it gives her a greater command of sexual energy and tension. She wears the skull of her largest 'conquest', the definition of which she leaves purposefully ambiguous, to make her a central point of fear as well as sexuality. Despite these oddities of personality Miss Hexata is a devout Gaian, endlessly loyal to Terrenus, and heedlessly thoughtful of others. She constantly preaches that the strongest motive force that one can tap into for the arcane are the powers of love and virtue.

    The Crew

    Table of Contents

    Spoiler:
The NPC Crew - All players are welcome to handle them. Send me or desolate a PM if you would like us to find someone else to play them for your thread, or with suggestions for NPC Crew additions.

Terran Sentinels, the Bold Bouldery Bouncers

Terran Sentinels prowl the Gaian Academy at all times. Forged from stone and enchanted with powerful geomancy, these silent and potentially dangerous constructs constantly view the students with Detect Alignment, Discern Lies, and True Sight.

    Battle Blob, Level One

Battle Blob, Level One is the first of three in a series of battle blobs, or combat polymorphs. They can transform into any monster on command, although Level Ones may only turn into weak monsters. Free for all students to use.

    Battle Blob, Level Two

Battle Blob, Level Two is the advanced polymorph available to all students except freshmen or with professor permission.

    Battle Blob, Level Three

Battle Blob, Level Three is the toughest polymorph available, restricted to senior students or upon professor permission. It transforms into extremely dangerous monsters.

    Pontificos, the Praying Priest
In charge of the Gaian Temple on the campus, Pontificos is always inviting people to pray to Gaia, or else they'll be Wyrm food and whatnot.

    Consuela, the Cretin Counselor
Your problems are stupid and Consuela is here to tell you, "You're stupid, too." What an easy fix!

    Newman, the Nagging Nurse
    Heal the wounds!

    Glinda, the Grumpy Gardener
Groundskeeper and gardener for the Academy, all around green thumb. If she's so grumpy, why's she smiling?

    Collin, the Club Coordinator

Collin coordinates the basic clubs and events, such as chess club and spelling bees.

    Jill, the Jilted Janitor
A shy, constantly apologetic maid who cleans up after everyone, everywhere. Some suspect she is omnipresent, due to how fast she appears at the site of a mess.

    Henry, the Hall Monitor Hellion
Always in someone's way, and in someone's face, Henry doesn't like you if you don't have permission to be in his halls, and it's not like you could get past his belly. Bribe him with a meal or maybe he'll eat you next!

    Laura, the Lascivious Lunch Lady
The lunch lady who is always playfully flirting with the school children as they collect their lunch from her. Ew?

    Lily, the Lame Librarian
She never talks and casts Mute on whoever speaks over an indoor voice in the library. Never seen outside of the library.

    Betty, the Belligerent Bard

An obnoxious sophomore who constantly sings and plays the drums at the most unwanted times.

    Core Classes

    Table of Contents

Click here for Gaian Academy Classes

So in an effort to automate as many of the parts in this kind of interaction that get gunked up by unreliable people or reliable people struck by unfortunate circumstances, the policy for classes will be as follows. You sign up for 3 classes per semester, but gain knowledge in them only after undergoing a requisite amount of roleplay.

Requisite roleplay can be in the form of two or three students sitting down in class and communally controlling the NPC teacher within the personality profile (to be) provided, or it can be those same students out and about the world of Terrenus and practicing what they learned in class.

What you learn in class will vary on personal interpretation. To clarify, if two players both selected a Study of Water Elementalism class, one player might interpret that as knowing a spell to purify water while another might learn how to shape it into a water jet. Just as an example.

As always, I'm willing to hear ideas for new classes, if you're willing to do the write up for it too.

Here will be posted information on the school. Events, celebrations, information on classes, teachers and so on will be posted here.

    Community Service

    Academy Missions

    Spoiler:
Restoration: A short while ago, a hurricane tore through the streets of Patia, taking the life of a few unlucky citizens, splitting the pavement of the streets, and tearing the roofs off of a few homes. The students that sign up for this will be required to help thatch roofs and lay down pavement to fix holes and cracks.

Fluffy!: Ol' Mrs. Jenkins, the benchmark crotchety senior citizen of Dougton, has recently lost her cat Fluffy. The students who sign up for this will be required to track, capture, and bring Fluffy back. The problem is that Fluffy is an Ethereal cat that can, you guessed it, teleport for short distances. To make matters worse, Fluffy sure has some sharp claws…

Pollution Solution: Cococino Marsh, thanks to the constant passage of travels of all races and breeds, has become something of a hotspot for two things; litter, which damages the ecosystem and is just plain and simply put an eyesore, and pests. Cockatrices, giant insects, and the like have to be cleared out before matters take a turn for the worse and we start losing lives.
Note: Half the infestation has been cleared out manually by Odin Haze.

Frostilicus: A mage wanted a way to keep cool in the summer, and so created an ice golem that he would keep in a corner. He dubbed it Frostilicus. Alas, he was so thorough he also gave it the urge to break things. It was last seen in the sewers, leaving behind a trail of minty-fresh mice. Capture and bring back in working condition.

Hole-y smokes!: After a brief and localized tremor shook loose the entrance to a subterranean tunnel, the aging librarian climbed inside and found a large network of tunnels and storage rooms. The rooms nearest the entrance, a personal library, were filled with old tomes both ancient and rare. The librarian has asked for students from the Academy to come help dig out the books and, if any have an aptitude for it, help him translate the texts.

Potion Commotion: The Mages Guild would like to remind everyone that flushing reagents down the drain is unwise. Please recycle with care. Because someone forgot this rule, the reagents recombined downstream and leaked into a section of catacomb. There are undead roaming about.

Garden Gnomes?: Agatha, who harvests many fruits and vegetables in her gardens, has noticed that her merchandise has been going missing. After investigating, she found that there were no tracks left behind, human or otherwise. Just holes, covered up, about a foot wide. She has asked for a pair of students to come out, hide, and find out what exactly is responsible for all the disorder.

A bad case of the Mondays (Herbalism students): A young boy that lives with his parents in a sparsely populated area around Dougton has come down a severe allergic reaction. The symptoms reported are sores, respiratory problems, high fever and discoloration of fingers and toes. Despite apparently alarming manifestations of the sickness the boy's life is not in danger, though he is in a bad way, and his symptoms are not contagious. Herbalism students are invited to identify what is causing the reaction and reporting their findings remotely to their teacher for further instruction.

Ghostbuster (Terran Engineering students): The local magistrate's office reports a presence that seems to travel via its pressure sensitive fungi, passing from screen to screen like it's in an elaborate aquarium. Please investigate its nature and, if possible, neutralize.

Finders Keeper (International Diplomacy students): A farmer has recently dug up a substantial amount of aragane ore, which is native to the Elrux region of Muhir. It is a large enough cache to warrante the attention of ORDER, which claims it is was illegally exported and wants to repatriate it. The farmer, after digging through several tons of dirt in his own backyard, is understandably reticent. Please debrief on Muhir policy and resolve this standoff.

Singing to the Stars (Folk Magic + Ritual Magic students): A local tribe has a ritual whereupon they sing to the stars in an elaborate dance, with incense and precise instrumenting for good herbal harvests. The Librarium would like to catalogue this ritual, describing it in terms of modern magic theory. Please assist magus Warner Langford in this effort. Be respectful of the tribe's custom

    Off topic:
There are no GM's for these community service events. The students can take care of that themselves, and then submit the completed thread for whatever reward comes of it (if any), or they can request that a specific teacher be in charge of the event.

Credits: Carlos, Roger and Angel for their contribution in writing up the quests.
