    Exclamation Informal Q&A

While I understand that we have links for Newcomers and we also have Lore and everything else, I felt that it seemed a little more impersonal to do it that way and we could easily provide people with simple Answers to simple Questions.

Others that are more complex, links and whatever else can be provided or PMs sent to better serve the community.

Lately, I've been sharing PMs back and forth with one of the newer people to Valucre and I figured these are really good questions and I'm sure other new people will constantly arrive to Valucre, so why not throw something quick and easy up like this; to share what people have asked, and to give answers to the general public, as sometimes this forum can be intimidating and not easily navigated for a beginner.

Poet asked: How do people typically improve their characters, around here? Just train under someone, in story?

You can train under someone IC, but it's not as efficient as working with people to develop as a whole, in my personal opinion. Build a story or a goal for your character and then work toward achieving it, and then move to the next.

Utilize player quests. The Classifieds tab is a good start! Jump in and be unexpected. Try new plots, new things, as you might learn to totally love and enjoy something you never knew about.

Utilize the Market tab. There's weapons you can quest for. Items. Treasures. Whatever. Just go wild with it and expect nothing, but enjoyment.

There's tons of resources for any person, all you gotta do is just know where to look and who to ask!

Poet asked: Do people often build their character's power throughout r/p's here, or do most people make a character that's fully-developed?

It really depends on the person. I'd like to think of it as a Time-in-Service sort of gig really, as a lot of beginners to forums, or writing want to make something seriously bad-ass and rock it hard and sexy-like, but then they grow disinterested and fail to follow through a lot of the time, because there isn't much left to work for.

As Valucre is Free Form RP, no one is forced to create a bare-bones character, but a lot of veterans to forum RP would definitely agree that starting from scratch is usually extremely rewarding in the long run, because you've got years of progress with a character available, and the sky is the limit.

My recommendation would be to start with some simple powers. Something basic. I always enjoy working a Final Fantasy-style character sheet where you give yourself a class or two in various areas and then work out from there. Enough to get your ass kicked hard by someone experiences, and tons of room for development and growth.

Take on some Market quests for specific weapon types. Learn and grow with that item. Then find another. Move on. Work for a goal. Just have fun with it and find people you are compatible with to do so!

Hello, I am new and just started. I was wondering how do you start a new roleplay? And where do you post it?

    First off, hello there!

Second, if you could just make your own thread by going back and clicking the lovely little button up in the left hand corner that would be super. This one is merely for information for new people.

Third, you start a new roleplay by creating a thread and posting; where that thread goes depends on what kind of roleplay you want to make/join. Have any specific ideas in mind?
    I am many things,
    great and terrible,
    I have many faces,
    sombre and maniacal,
    I use many voices,
    sensuous and sibilant
and if you cannot fathom the true depth of me,
never considering how I've come to be,
than you can go fuck yourself and leave me be.

I've been away from this site for awhile, and wanted to get involved in some kind of roleplay.

    Anyone accepting newcomers?

I've seen some fights designated to Reyner, or Reyer city. Where is that thread, and how can I sign up?

It's an informal information thread. People can ask questions and have them answered here. It's kind of the point.

sansaku_metsubou: Actually I managed to get ahold of the other admin, and he was kind enough to hep me ^_^ Thanks anyway!
    i_hold_the_sky: No problem!
i_hold_the_sky: May I ask what the question was, and the answer he gave you?
sansaku_metsubou: It was about acquiring materials ICly for forging a weapon
sansaku_metsubou: His answer was that you can RP it out, use VB to acquire it, or even really just claim to have done something to get it as long as you're claiming to possess a fair amount
    i_hold_the_sky: That is precisely so.

Okay, so still being relatively new to the forum, I felt it appropriate to post my question(s) here.

First of all, when I have a rp going, having just started it. Should I give up on it if no one joins? And secondly, on that note, if no one joins for the first few posts, may I continue posting replies to my thread in hopes that it sparks someone's interest?

    Thanks in advance.

You can give it up and let the thread float into obscurity, taking the place merely as your first milestone on the forum or whatever, but you don't have to. Yes you can post in it, but there's only so much you can accomplish by posting in your own thread so keep that in mind. But yes, it's not uncommon for a thread that the first three posts are just the user posting to him or herself, then someone will get interested and join in.

Thanks! That was my hunch on what could happen, but I didn't know if that was possibly frowned upon. I appreciate you clearing that up for me XD

Salutations! ^^ I'm new, not only here, but to RP in general. Although i've dabbled in creative fiction, I've never been involved in a long running or continuous story before.

I just have one question. Would it be at all feasible in your opinion to become involved with this RP even though I can only access the internet a few times a week? I don't have the internet in my own home, but I've been interested in RP for quite some time, and I'm guaranteed at least one day on the internet per week, even though I almost always get to check at least two or three times.
