Yeah that is ok, find someone willing to work around your schedule and enjoy the thread or rp. Some might not be in a hurry and well im one. And welcome to Valucre.

Most definitely! There are quite a few of us who are only able to RP a few times, or less, a week.
I am many things,
great and terrible,
I have many faces,
sombre and maniacal,
I use many voices,
sensuous and sibilant
and if you cannot fathom the true depth of me,
never considering how I've come to be,
than you can go fuck yourself and leave me be.
This question was answered, quite expertly, by two members above but I thought I'd add to it a bit and clarify. It depends on the person you're roleplaying with. As Asoleci will attest to, there are people that get along just fine with the kind of schedule you're talking about. And as Pain was saying, it depends on the person that you're playing with. Some people won't mind the wait, others will probably skip you if you're in a fast paced thread with a bunch of others people, but understandably so. Either way, you'll find some good stuff here :)
Oh and to that note, Valucre isn't a staff based site with player involvement, it's a player based site with staff involvement. So rather than a single central storyline to become a constituent of, there are a wide array of storylines that you can join. Or you can make your own :)

I have just created a character, bare bones as i find it more enjoyable to build them up, and I'm working towards doing a quest on the lore page in biazo so he can meet a person, learn some stuff he needs to begin his 'upgrading,' and so on. I'm assuming i need a DM to run the quest for me? How do i get a hold of one, post in free chat or is there a page with a list of approved DM's? Also, i think i read somewhere that you had to have 5ish people involved in your storyline to get a DM and/ or storyteller involved. As the character is just beginning his development in a rather slow posting town should i build up a 'party' before requesting a DM?
Multiple continents, varying levels of tech. What stops them from traveling from one continent to another? Can characters travel from one continent to another? If so, how?
To recruit more people into a thread/ quest/ party/ story line, is it acceptable to just post a wanted add in the free chat section, or is there somewhere specific these requests are supposed to go?
I know a lot of these answers are probably out there in one of the Q&A or FAQ sections, but i haven't found them yet.
And thanks in advance for the help.

Hi! I just joined (about an hour ago) and have read through the intro on the home page and the FAQ. I've started to look at the walkthrough but haven't finished it yet, so if an answer can be found there, please feel free to ignore the question. :)
1) How do you pronounce "Valucre?"
2) It sounds like there are threads that can be purely member-orchestrated as well as threads in which NPC's played by admins are active participants… Are these distinguished from each other somehow?
3) What's the best way for a newbie to start playing? Can I join someone else's thread as my character, or does it make more sense to start a thread with my character's backstory and go from there?
4) Can a member have multiple characters?
That's it for now. I'm sure I'll think of more (and I'll read the walkthrough). :)
1. Val - oo - cray
2. If you're asking if the threads are distinguished by something, not really. Threads are labeled by OPEN/CLOSED/SEMIOPEN or not labeled at all but it does help to notice those things to dictate if you can jump into that thread or not. Others will also have another label saying if it a Quest. NPCs are there to move a story along, and it is a Story Teller that will some times play those or people that have characters will take over more than one role.
3. Really depends to be honest. There are those that like to jump in an Open Thread or you can make your own thread in any section you seem fit. You don't necessarily have to put your whole characters background into one thread, you can either leave it a mystery to everyone or you can easily just explain it through roleplay.
4. Yes. You can have as many as you like in any shape, way, or form.

Thanks for the quick response!
I've done some roleplaying before, but never (oddly, perhaps) involving combat. If my character is minding his/her own business in a thread, and another character comes along, can they strike up a battle? Do we then move into "combat mode" and switch to the turn-based T1 system described in the walkthrough? Could my "bare bones" character be killed if someone much stronger decides to power through? (I suspect that this probably isn't how things typically pan out, but still, should I be on my guard?) Or are there separate threads/forums dedicated to fighting?
You can Strike up a battle, but Val is a no kill in Rp, and T1 style Fighting is pretty much no differentthen the regualr RP would be. A character can only be killed if the player allows it or they are a member of CK.
There are Froums dedicated to fighting as well as threads it is all player based what happens in a thread. But you do not need to worry about a character you do not want killed dying.

I close my eyes and this image floats beside me, a sweat tooth madman with a stare that pounds my brain. His hands reach out and choke me and all the time he’s mumbling, mumbling truth, truth like a blanket that always leaves your feet cold. You push it Stretch it, it will never be enough, you kick at it beat it; it will never cover any of us. From the moment we enter crying to the moment we leave dying it will just cover your face as you wail and cry and scream.

Next time, if there needs to be a next time, keep it off the board and take it to PMs.
Anyway, Blue, to answer your question. Valucre does not enforce character death. However, there is a social group called The CK whose members have characters that are "character killable", meaning that these members choose to allow the possible death of certain characters at the hands of other CK member characters. To quote our most recent newsletter:
There is a code they go by which you can find listed in their group. I would suggest you read it if this sounds like something that interests you. The CK's endeavors are not for everyone, are voluntary only, but are fully endorsed by Valucre Admin and Team Leaders. If you want to add more spice and realism to your writing, if you want to put yourself at the mercy of every hero and villain you come across, then the CK is for you. Any characters tagged CK, that is "character killable", is a character you, the writer, has designated as free to kill. Ready and willing to engage into a fight and put their lives on the lines.
Certain situations will automatically brand you a CK. For example, being an assassin or a town-destroyer without roleplayer consent. Characters not specifically listed as CK are, unless otherwise specified, non-CK. Obviously.
Edit: Also, there is no need to switch to a different thread to carry out a fight. (I'm unsure if that's what you're asking....still haven't had my coffee. >_<) We do have a Coliseum where member characters can fight one another without the whole 'storyline mode'(if that's what they want) and where we hold our Tournaments, but for storyline combat...you can pretty much just fight it out in your roleplay thread.

Thanks! I was wondering whether a character who joins my RP thread could attack me, and it sounds like yes, they can, but they can't kill me without my consent. I don't envision a lot of weathered veterans swarming to my threads with the purpose of picking off a newbie, but it's nice to know I don't have to worry about it, nonetheless. :)
EDIT:
Also, I don't know if anyone saw Dodgen's questions above, but it looks like no one's responded, and I'm kind of curious to see the answers. :)

Blue, you will find the answers to Dodgen's question, with a recent update from yours truly, in the following thread, which you can also find in the post where he originally posted the questions:

I have two quick questions about mild powers.
1) "Teleportation" is listed as an illegal power. Does that only refer to the teleportation of the user, or does that also disallow summoning objects from a distance?
2) Also, would "this bag is bigger on the inside" or some other violation of space conversation count as space/time manipulation, or is that legal?
Good questions.
Mild powers classification has more to do with when one character wants to fight/attack/combat another individual/group/town/setting. If you want to attack a town, don't teleport a thousand men out of thin air. If your character is a bit of a magician and likes to grab things out of thin air for this and that, that's much more acceptable.
As for the second, that's totally allowable. You're talking about in essence a bag of holding concept, though not always a bag, or something of a "pocket dimension". That's fine.
Thanks! That helps a lot.
One quick technical question. On most internet forums there is an option to view all material posted by a specific user, often found by a link on their profile. As I have been absent for a number of months, I would like to review anything I wrote before taking my hiatus in order to accelerate my jump back into the community, however, I can't seem to find any sign of a button or search tool to look for my old post. Is there anything of that sort available, and if so, where can I find it?
Edit: Never mind, I found my answer just a few seconds after posting this!
