I read "Writer's Digest" and a few of the other such magazines. They have interview with published writers. There is a consistent theme among those who make it: writing, like anything else, (except perhaps my dream of Heidi Klum leaving Seal for me) is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't worry about the odds, because yes it's true, 99% of the people here won't make it into print through traditional publishing. Don't worry about that: focus on getting yourself into the other 1%. Believe you are in that 1%. Because when it comes time to having your manuscript in a slush pile, you at-that-second have a 50%/50% shot of either being accepted or rejected.
