A longing for respite. This was something the shape shifter whole heartily could relate to. There were few goals as admirable as the quest for inner peace. And as beings we seldom obtain it. We search our entire lives for meaning, purpose or even rest. And we often find that our efforts are fruitless. Some cling to Gods for peace. Others themselves. While some folk simply find the simplest of things life has to offer to be soothing. The latter was the school of thought the shape shifter clung to. As she spoke he would listen, hearkening to her every word. Clinging to each syllable as a babe would milk. He found their engagements to be fulfilling as a whole. She spoke of her work and honestly he found it to be boring. Literature was important, a key component to understanding another culture as well as ones own. However he found pleasure only in reading them, not filing them away. Though he supposed someone had to be the organizer and keeper.
"You live a solitary existence as well? But are you content I wonder?" He inquired into. Now the shape shifter meant no offense in his inquiry and statement. However he felt the need to ask. For most people are social by nature. Even those who are reclusive long for interaction at times. After all the want to feel welcomed or accepted if not over another was in our very genes. They would pass through the threshold together, the interior of her humble home was far more pleasant to the eyes then the exterior of the structure. It was welcoming and the hospitality it generated brought a subtle illusion of peace with it. However the shape shifter was old and had observed the worlds decline for many centuries. And though one may believe in angels in the hearts of man or in nature. The shape shifters experiences told him the opposite was true.
In his eyes the universe was hostile and peace was brief like the eye of a hurricane. But he'd have it no other way. For confrontation was a key component in the progression of our world. It was a catalyst for personal development. Without it life would become stale and all life forms would become complacent. Which was never a good thing. At least not in this sense. "Do your brothers live with you?" He tossed yet another inquiry her way as he leaned against the wall, nesting near the shadows of her home. He had survived this long due to his ability to remain unseen. And the shape shifter had spent most of his life under disguise or basking in the protection the shadows wrought. So it was in his nature to do so here. A part of him was uncomfortable due to him being out of his element as it were. finally after much delay he would respond to her gesture of going out into town. "Part of me wishes to. But the other part simply desires to get to know you. For you are a belle person." He concluded with a smile.
