Profile
Birth Name: Elijah Quinn Celawyn
Preferred Name: Eli
Title:
Age: 25
Race: Mostly Human, with a trace of Dryad
Class: Shape shifter
Diagnostics
Height: Around 5’ 10”
Weight: Lighter than what would be expected, weighing around just 110 lbs. Some speculate that Eli may have hollow bones to account for this.
Hair: Brown and of a shorter length, but not so short as to avoid bed-head in the morning. For the most part Eli does what he can to keep it straight, but doesn’t always succeed.
Eyes: The eyes are Eli’s one truly remarkable feature. As if to advertise his shape shifting abilities, his irises constantly change color throughout the day, never remaining a single color for more than a few hours and occasionally differing from eye to eye. Eli has never managed to control this feature, and has great difficulty hiding his ever-changing eyes when it becomes necessary to blend in.
Voice: Average for a man of his age, no one has ever thought his tone to be unusually high or low pitched.
Skin: White, but darkly tanned by an excessive amount of time spent outdoors.
Armament:
Abilities:
Shape Shifting: Eli posses the ability to instantly change his shape at will, but is limited to only the forms of birds that he has seen personally. Changing requires very little energy from Eli, and requires no extra energy to maintain the form after the transformation, meaning that Eli can become a bird indefinitely. Once in bird form, Eli gains the ability to communicate with birds of the same species. Clothes and items held by Eli during a transformation will become incorporated into his new form, but will not be noticeable or useable, and the equipment will reform when Eli again becomes human. The transformation generates very little force, meaning that if Eli in bird form were trapped in a small space (say, a cage) he would not be able to burst through it by becoming human. Instead, the cage would prevent him from becoming anything larger than the cage had room to hold.
Linked Transformation: As well as transforming himself, Eli also has the ability to link one other person (at a time) to his own transformations, meaning that when Eli uses his shape shifting, the linked person will simultaneously morph into the same form. The link can only be established or broken through touch in Eli’s human form. Following this touch, a bright green mark will form where Eli made contact to the target’s skin, and they will experience a quick burning sensation in the same area. Eli’s power will take stock of the body and prepare it for transformation, finalizing the link after a period of about ten minutes. Once the link is established, the green mark will fade, and the linked person’s eyes will begin change coloring in sync with Eli’s as a clear indication that the link was successful. The link can be resisted while it is forming, but is very difficult to stymie completely without the aid of very powerful magic acting on the target’s body.
Linked persons cannot:
-Use Eli’s power at their own command
-Use magic that requires human speech to form spells while in bird form
-Get out of range
-Instinctively learn to fly; they will require instruction and practice
-Break the link while in bird form
-Resist a transformation after a link has been fully established
-Become “locked” into bird form without Eli also remaining in bird form. If, for whatever reason, a linked person becomes unable to transform, Eli also becomes unable to transform. If a linked person were to die in bird form, Eli must change their corpse into human form before breaking the link.
Linked persons can:
-Use their own supernatural abilities while in bird from
-Understand and speak to birds of the same species, allowing Eli and his link to communicate
-Maintain full control of their body outside of transformations
-Attempt to break the link using their own magic, but only while in human form.
-Have access to Eli’s accelerated healing, but only to the point at which they became linked. If a person were linked to Eli with a broken arm, Eli’s ability would treat the broken arm as “normal” for their human form, and would reassemble the broken bones as they were after a transformation. Bird forms will remain intact and fully functioning.
Accelerated Healing: If Eli were to be seriously injured, his body involuntarily redirects all of his transformation ability to reforming the damaged portion of his body. This ability allows Eli to fully recover from anything less than a fatal wound in a matter of days, but renders him unable to use his shapeshifting during the healing period. Eli has no control over this ability, and it can be activated in any of his forms. Any linked persons also gain this ability, but both Eli and his link will lose the ability to transform if either is damaged greatly enough for the healing to occur. For example, if a linked person were to break their wing while being taught to fly, both Eli and the link would be forced to remain in that same bird form until the injury was fully repaired.
Weapons: Nothing more than a small dagger under his cloak. Eli has no training with any specific weapons, and usually relies on his magical abilities in a fight.
Armor: Usually little or none. Armor loses it's protective effects when Eli takes on a new form, and thus Eli has learned to evade much more often than block.
Accessories: Eli carries with him a notebook with pages consisting of information on exotic birds he has heard of, but has yet to see. Besides being just an interesting past time, hunting down rare birds adds to Eli’s list of available forms and his options in difficult situations. Some of the more unusual birds, such as the Adelie penguin, are worth the difficult journey into their harsh natural habitat for the abilities Eli gains by acquiring their form. The book also contains known and speculated information about the more mythical birds, such as the Phoenix or a Roc, in the hope that Eli may one day discover one of these legendary birds and add their power to his arsenal.
Miscellaneous
Likes: Falcons, these swift and powerful raptors are among Eli’s favorite forms. His particular favorite is the Peregrine Falcon, known for its speed and agility as well as its adaptability to most any habitat worldwide. Whether Eli needs just a generic bird or an expert hunter, the Peregrine is his bird of choice.
Dislikes: Cats, snakes, dogs and a few species of jungle spiders. Years spent as a bird has installed an instinctive fear of their predators into Eli, a fear that tends to arise even in his normal human form. If it eats birds, Eli tends to be wary around it.
Attitude: In a single word, Eli’s personality can be best described as “adventurous”. Having received an extensive education on the subject of birds, Eli meets all the requirements of a professional Ornithologist, but has never officially claimed this title for fear of eventually ending up an old boring professor trapped in a small classroom lecturing on dull topics that no one cares to hear. Instead Eli prefers to wander the world in search of the next adventure, attending to his books only in a dull moment.
Habit/Twitch: Tends to become fidgety if forced to sit in one place for an extended period of time.

Background
Many generations ago down Eli’s family tree, a young man fell in love with a dryad sorceress named Celawyn. Through his devotion and much persistence (going so far as to take on her name) Eli’s ancestor eventually wooed the dryad, and her unpredictable nature magic was permanently woven into the genes of their decedents. Since that marriage, each blood relative of the Celawyn family has possessed a talent for a bizarre and seeming random piece of nature magic. As of yet, no two abilities have been the same, and the magic in the Celawyn blood has not by any means waned in strength with each new child. Celawyn herself, being linked to her tree, was destined to live much longer than her husband. After he passed away she withdrew into her forest without ever showing her decedents her tree's exact location, leaving children and grandchildren unable to find their ancestor. The family likes to believe that she still lives today, but no one can say for certain.
Eli, born to Quinn Celawyn and Sarah Eulian, had a mixture of two magical bloodlines. His father, a Celawyn who could become a tree at will, married a woman who possessed wings. From these two powers Eli was given the ability to become a bird, any bird, so long as he has seen it with his own eyes. Expecting that his son would share in the Celawyns’ gift of magic, his father tested and pushed his son in as many ways as he could imagine until his ability was discovered. Once his power was realized, Eli spent much of his early years training himself in his ability, eventually mastering his power in his teen years. Afterwards, Eli devoted his life to wandering the world to expand his catalog of bird forms (while making a living by accepting the odd quest here and there) and currently is wandering still.
