It's midnight.

Do you remember hovering between wakefulness and sleep? And mistake one for the other? You can recall all those nights, of course, when you did want to fall asleep, but couldn't, reality keeping you alert with its anxieties. Oh, but to sleep then would have been a dream.

But what of the times when you know you just had to wake up? Oh no, not those times when the alarm went off, when you had to get up for school, for work. But the times when your subconscious told you, begged you, to waken, but you couldn't? Like the times when that thing you fear the most was about to catch you, however fast you ran. Ever looked down at your feet? Were they moving, even? And that light. Was it the surface? Or was the sea endless? Will you not drown however desperate you gasped for air?

What is it that keeps you in the realm of dreams--or nightmares? Does it have a name?
