Bio
Gil is an orphan. He has (or had) an older sister, but she left Blaurg years ago and never contacted her family again. Gil thinks she was headed for Casper, but he has no way of knowing if that’s where she ever ended up. He doesn't even know if she's still alive.
With no living family members, Gil now makes his home in the Unterholm. Officially, he is in the care of an ill-tempered blacksmith by the name of Bartholomew who is known for taking on foster children only to work them into the ground in the forge. Bartholomew is negligent at best and abusive at worst. He often forgets (or simply doesn’t bother) to provide food for the kids, whom he refers to as his “apprentices,” though they are treated more like slaves. Gil, along with many of the children in Bartholomew’s care, spends as much time as possible aboveground, eating what he can steal and begging shelter from the locals.
Gil’s only education has been acquired in the smithy. He can spell his own name and Bartholomew’s but is otherwise illiterate and possesses only basic mathematical understanding. He is sharp-minded, however, and would be a quick learner if presented with the opportunity.
Gil is untrained in combat and possesses little working knowledge of any skill. He is not particularly strong, and he is quite small for his age. What he lacks in strength he makes up for in agility and stealth and is quite practiced in the ways of pick-pocketing and sleight-of-hand maneuvers. He is by no means resigned to the life of an Unterholm blacksmith and dreams of leaving Blaurg altogether to travel the world; surrounded as the city is, however, by geographical obstacles as well as less-than-friendly travelers, he despairs of ever getting far without some sort of guide. |
