At some point during his childhood, Theophilus was infested by a living organism that has assumed a position near the heart and begun functioning as an organ. It has since taken various preemptive measures to ensure it's safety within the host body, even going as far as replicating itself (via parthenogenesis) to form it's own subordinate "organs" with varying functions. These staged mutations are erratic but appear to be progressively supplementing one another as time passes. Those that have occurred will be listed as followed:
Stage 1
The Wyrm Infestation has introduced itself and taken on the role of a secondary heart that allows Theo to function in low oxygen environments, or if his primary heart is damaged or destroyed. Hemoglobin content has been supplemented, making it more efficient at carrying oxygen around the body, and blood flow has increased tremendously.
Stage 2
The Wyrm has spawned an attachment that releases hormones that both affect the ossification of the skeleton and encourage the forming bone growths to absorb chitin-based chemicals that are secreted into the bloodstream by The Wyrm. This drastically altered the way a Theophilus' bones grew and developed. After this mutation his long bones increased in size and strength (along with most other bones), and his rib cage eventually fused into a solid mass of durable, interlocking plates.

Long thought to be an urban legend, Poor Festus lingers as an imminent threat to those children of nobility who loathe the day they can no longer live in over abundance; because when Festus arrives he carries his Equalizer, a rusty knife that turns anything valuable into rust. Few believe that he truly exists and as a result, those who affirm his legitimacy are often dismissed as fanatical.
