Race: Human
class/profession: Shaman
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 190 lbs
Build: Athletic, lean
Eyes: Hazel
=HAIR=
Color: dark brown, nearly black
Styling: worn about jaw-length, shaggy, jagged. It's got a soft shine to it, usually.
Decoration: On the right, behind his ear, three feathers dangle, about a foot long each, red, with a black vein, and black chevron near the tip. The root of the feathers are bound into his hair, so the tips dangle down to about his shoulders.
Facial hair: Stubble on most occasions. Rarely a full beard; he keeps it trimmed, if crudely.
=CLOTHING=
Torso: Hides and skins, fur lined. They're looser and sleeveless in the summer, and thicker, hooded, and extending to his elbows in winter. The fur is always black, and the buttons are black bone. Colored beads and feathers adorn the tan hides, decorating and marking it, dyes forming patterns around the edges.
Legs: long hide pants. Always the same. Fur can be seen at the waist, and ankles, also black. This garment is adorned much like his tops.
Feet: heavy leather boots, black, and semi-shiny, since they're well-maintained. They're held firmly in place by a pair of straps each, fastened by buckles on the outside of the ankles.
Hands: Usually wrapped in a slightly off-white cloth. It's slick to the touch, as if it were soaked in some sort of oil.
=EQUIPMENT=
Waist: Strapped to his waist, by a wide leather belt is an assortment of items. A pouch of herbs and medicines, for basic healing, another contains his channeling relics, carved of a variety of bones, and painted carefully. On the back, with the handle extending to the right, sheathed horizontally, is a knife, single edged, and sharp. It's more than ceremonial, it's his survival knife. Finally, in a separate, canvas pouch, he keeps spare hand wrappings, should one become unserviceable.
Satchel: he holds his larger items in his satchel, food, water, extra clothing, whatever he may have packed for the excursion he's on.
Weapons: A simple short bow and arrows, only carried when he's out to hunt.
For combat purposes, his hand wraps can be ignited, adding a burn to any of his hand-to hand strikes. Some blocks may also ignite the attacker's clothing, as the flames wreathing his arms extend all the way to his elbows.
=RESISTANCES=
mild resistance to most elements, due to his connection with the spirits of nature. Particular resistance to fire; he's difficult to burn. Not impossible, but it'd take quite a hot fire to do so.
=WEAKNESSES=
Increased resistance to fire balances out with a weakness to cold. He chills easily, hence the fur lined garments year round.
=COMBAT STYLES=
Refuses to use his bow in combat, that's a survival tool only. The knife is only drawn in emergencies. Rilien prefers to fight hand to hand, as he can subdue an attacker without slaying them. He's light and fast, with a knack for hitting vital points. Quite the competent fighter in close. However, he has little to no ranged ability, having to rely on his agility and wit to close the distance before engaging. This suits him fine, since avoiding combat in the first place is preferable.
=ABILITIES=
While connected to each of the elements, he's not an experienced enough shaman to take advantage of all of them. His studies have led him down the route of Fire, first, and so that is the only element he can use in battle. (out of battle, with appropriate concentration, spirits be willing, he can move small rocks, or cause a tide in a puddle, maybe summon a light breeze, but that's all)
Even there, his abilities are mild. He cannot summon fire from nothing, it must already exist. It's simply amplified, and only at the point of his hands. He must actually touch the fire. In addition, while he can direct it, the power of his flame is reduced by the square of the distance to the target, meaning that the fire may be VERY intense at his hands, but be quite useless at distances of even four feet away.
Summoning fire also takes quite a bit of energy for him to do, and he keeps it to a minimum whenever possible, using no more than the natural fire that his hand wraps provide.
=HISTORY=
Born into the peasant class Jaska family, Rilien spent his childhood on a farm, working to help out in the planting and harvest, learning to hunt in the summer, and to survive, in general. It wasn't an easy life, but it wasn't horrible either.
His father was a stern figure, enforcing the family, and keeping the farm running smoothly enough to keep them all alive. He taught all the sons to survive, to work the land, to hunt and to fish.
Rilien never made many friends, keeping to himself. He seemed to enjoy the company of the woods. That affinity is what drew the attention of his mentor, who instructed him on communing with the spirits in all things. Rilien learned to first feel the spirits, and then to talk, and slowly slipped into manipulating the elements, with spiritual help. He seemed to take a particular liking to fire, the way it dances around, and flickers, first here, then there.
This shaman also taught Rilien to fight; primarily as a means of unifying his body and mind, opening the channel for the spirits, though it proved to be a highly effective method of defending himself as well.
At 17 years old, he left his apprenticeship, having become a fully fledged shaman. No master of the art, he's certainly got a lot to learn, still, but he's got his foundation, and is making his way in the world.
