-- Elpis can transform between her human form and mermaid form with ease and as required. The suction cups on her octopus limbs release paralysing neurotoxin by use of small stingers within each cup. Her magic lies mainly in a combination of Restoration, Abjuration and Transmutation, casting magical shields and altering the natural elements of the physical plain (ex: detecting life forms through solid structures).
-- Elpis also possess passive abilities which do not require incantations. Compulsion and Enchantment come natural to her and are as much a part of her as the water realm itself. Though refusing to use these abilities for malevolent purposes, she has been known to sway opinions in her favour and calm angry creatures as it suited her.
::History::
Berceuse was the last born and only female of all two hundred hatchlings. In the first few days of their existence, half of them had died. In the following month only 15 remained. By the time she’d actually grown accustomed to the presence of her brothers, they were taken away to undergo the rite of passage, and she was married off into the Tridebringer family. Normally such a thing would be unheard of, the Tidebringers always would marry within the family but as of the past few years their riches had depleted and there remained no offspring to carry their name.
Thus the Tidebringer family formed a pact with the Rushborne family. Politics and riches coming together. Being married into a different family meant being born again, which resulted in Berceuse’s name being changed. Elpis, or Hope, was the name most befitting of her considering she would be restoring both families to their former glory. The wedding was agreed upon and Elpis was married at the age of 9 ½, her husband three times her age. He was a calm and understanding man, allowing her to continue her studies until she felt she was ready for children.
After 11 years of marriage, Elpis finally gave in to the pressure of her family and procreated, but before the children would even be hatched her husband fell prey to an assassination attempt on her. Her maturity was disputed, her knowledge of politics and young age was frowned upon, and the Tidebringer elders even considered disowning her. All but one person went against her, her mother-in-law, who saw in Elpis the strength of her lost son and protected her.
The elders gave in, and Elpis took over as head of the Tidebringer family at 23. The youngest member of the family and the youngest and only female ruler of Kal’El. With ten daughters and twenty sons to her name, Elpis remains unmoveable from her throne. Kal’El is ruled responsibly by a woman wise beyond her age, more kind than a mother to her last living child, and fair in all the judgement she passes.
