Character Biography:
Efante Welsh, son of Eldra and Alecks. A Half-Elf Sorceress, and a Werewolf. Efante was born and raised away from the city, and grew up on a small farm. This, perhaps, was to keep his father safe from those who would hunt him down - or, to keep the hunters safe from his fury. In any case, they made a humble living with growing crops, and it wasn't long before young Efante accompanied his mother on the trips to town to sell them and buy the things they needed. And, soon after that, he learned how to brew the potions which kept his father calm during the time when the moon was full.
Then he learned how to ride a horse, how to use a plow, and how to feel the life in the ground. He learned how to fish, and then he learned how to fish his dad's way - by swimming with them. His mother taught him math, the sciences, the history of their family...and, soon, to his parents' astonishment, he was building. He made a plow which could be run with a person instead of a horse, and more efficiently. He made a tool that could cut through the toughest metal, and ran on energy drawn from a fire. He even made a small machine which could record sound, and play it back.
He had a natural talent for alchemy - the combination of science and magic. He was by no means a technomancer, but he could create wonderous things from the simplest of materials. However, Efante still followed the laws of science. He couldn't change wood into metal, or steel into paper. And every time he made a reaction, he required energy to do it - his own, heat energy...any source. He was soon adding to the family income, creating statuettes to be sold in town. With this, he was funding his own research. Making inventions, finding information of unknown plants...and even attempting to find a cure for his father's lycanthropy. He was continuing the research of his mother, who had attempted every form of magic she knew, and had only found a way to lessen the impact.
One day, his father vanished. Efante had come back from the fields to find his mother packing her things quickly for travel. She told him that some men had come back to take his father away, and had blindsided her. She was going to find him. She handed Efante a part of their savings, and a small notebook - her book of brews. She told him to sell the farm, and move to the city, where he could continue his research. And she would find him, once she had retrieved his father. It was the last time he saw her as she kissed him on the head goodbye.
He was established in the city at sixteen, continuing his research in an upstairs apartment. He was being funded by a group of scholars, who had seen his potential two years earlier when he was attending the university. He had graduated with a high degree - a prodigy. And his research into a true cure for lycanthropy was one that he was making good progress in. He was even branching out into other strains of therianthropy - bear, rat, boar...each one with a different composition, and different effects.
However, he returned one day from a meeting to find his lab in flames. Rushing in, he grabbed what he could - his research journal, his mother's book, a few of his tools, his savings...and then he ran down, making sure the other people were out. They said that a man had broken the door to Efante's room, and there was a crash before the man had left in the hurry. Someone had torched his lab for a reason. Packing a bag, he set out to find out who...and why.
Abilities and Weapons:
Efante carries a gun for protection while he's in human form, for he doesn't like to use his alchemy or his lycanthropy if he can help it. He has a few gadgets for different things, like his goggles for magnification or clear vision in different conditions, or his sound player - complete with headphones. When he does use his alchemy, he requires energy to cause the reaction, and he can only use the materials he's given. As such, he can easily drain his body, but he prefers to have a ready source of energy available so that he doesn't have to resort to that - i.e. fire. Other than that, he's not a fighter, and prefers to stay out of direct combat unless he must. When he must, he goes into his werewolf form.
When in lycanthrope form, he has metal armor and claws to augment his natural abilities, which he carries in his bag. He can still use alchemy in his lycanthrope form, but it isn't as strong, since most of his energy is diverted to his muscular and regenerative capabilities. He has lycanthropic regeneration, but it drains his physical energy, unlike that of a bitten lycanthrope. He doesn't get any taller, but he does gain physical strength from it, as well as the sensory perception that goes with being a werewolf. He doesn't have the rage associated with lycanthropy, either, but that's only because he's a half-blood, as well as not being a bitten lycanthrope.
