Back story:Destaymus was a confident and overall lovable guy when he was younger. Tall, handsome, and physically fit, he was well-known from where the village where he came from. Life was simple and enjoyable so it was rare to see a sad face. He was known as "Pain" by his friends as one flaw of his was that he was rather clumsy and caused more then his fair share of accidents and a broken bone or two to his unintentional victims. He also loves a good adventure. Anything from a simple trek into the forests to the kind of adventure where most don't return from was all the same to him. Despite this, he was quite an avid reader and loved any moment where he could be alone and just think. Anyways, when he was about sixteen years old he started work on his very own home in the village and was even in a relationship with a beautiful girl, as far as he can remember anyways. As you can probably tell, life was going his way until one day...it happened.
One evening 3 years before, Destaymus was simply reading a book and fell asleep only to wake up a few days later. He didn't know it at the time but it had been days rather then hours like he thought. He started his usual morning ritual since the sun was shining bright outside and he had been reading at night. After taking a quick shower and changing into a new set of clothes he went outside for his usual morning walk. Suffice to say, his village was in shambles. A few minutes later after walking through the destruction he found one of his neighbors underneath some rubble and badly injured.A quick dig later, the man was free and Destaymus asked him what happened. The man told Destaymus about that a few days ago a black fog swallowed up his home a few days ago and he disappeared. Confused at this Destaymus asked him why he had told him this. He said no more then a few hours after Destaymus had disappeared, a beast in the form of a man came in and destroyed the place. The beast ,the man said, sought out any living person, burned them into ash, and absorbed the remains. This being had no facial features except for an evil grin and blazing red eyes...the rest was shrouded by the shadow from a hood it was wearing. It ravaged the place until only he was left and that was because the rubble hid him from the beast's view. Before he could tell Destaymus anything more he passed away.
Since that night and to the present day, Destaymus has had no peace in his mind. Hallucinations and illusions of "The Beast" plague him nearly everyday of his life. Whether he saw out of the corner of his eye or in the reflection of a mirror, it always showed itself to him when he least expects it. It stressed him out to the point that he started to lose weight from a lack of eating and he spent more time inside away from people as a result. The once fit and handsome man turned into a scrawny and pale version of himself. Whatever it is that he calls "The Beast"...it is getting stronger and more dominant.
