    Charlotte

~He always made her feel special. He promised that he was the only person in the world who could appreciate how unique she was. He also promised that should she ever escape she would find nothing but cruelty in the world. “People,” he said, “Are simple but vicious creatures. You’re different Charlotte, and that means they’ll never accept you.”~

~People will tend to have one of two reactions to Charlotte. One is fear, unreasonable and illogical fear. Charlotte’s pretty face is too perfect, her glowing skin and golden eyes point out her unearthliness so much that she is unacceptable to the human psyche. Most will hate her for this…Most will shun her for this. The second reaction…It is her curse in many ways. Being of angelic blood causes a certain attraction. Most individuals yearn, either consciously or subconsciously, for divinity. Some individuals will feel an undeniable devotion to the girl, so strong that her wishes are often set aside for the greater good of keeping her “safe” and “close”. They’ll make her a slave to their love and to their obsession without even knowing it.~

    History

Charlotte’s mother was as kind as she was beautiful. Born a slave just like her daughter, she exhausted her desires for freedom early in her life and settled instead to be grateful for her good fortune. Being the Master’s favorite meant that her life didn’t have to be as hard or horrible as those of other slaves. The man was kind, and genuinely in love with her. He promised to marry her if only she would accept him. It would mean no longer being a slave, but wife was just another title of submission.

Considering the family she some day wanted to have, it wasn’t all that hard of a decision to make. If she could jump from slave to wife, then perhaps her children would never have to live with the stigmata of being slaves.

However she felt no true love for the man. But having been so jealously guarded by her Master the actual possibility of ever falling in love seemed faraway and certainly a impossibility. So she agreed to marry him.

During the winter before the spring of the wedding, she found a wounded man in the forests outside her Master’s property. Having accepted his marriage proposal had granted her more liberties. The man she found was unlike any creature she had ever seen. His skin was glowing, radiant as moonlight and when he opened his eyes they lacked any pupils and shone a pure golden color. She fell madly in love, and the creature, who called himself Urijiah felt the same way.

Their romance was a whirlwind of affection and danger. Urijiah was an angel, and was tempting God’s wrath by associating with a human, and she was testing her Master’s patience with her sudden lack of interest. They managed to keep their romance a secret until she became pregnant. Urijiah, responsible for the growing life within her was thrown into hell where he would be unable to continue interrupting the affairs of man. And she was left alone to try and explain her pregnancy to her Master.

Heart broken and humiliated the Master ordered for her death, but only after the child was born. For nine months he tortured her with the knowledge that her only child would know a life of sheer horror, no worse fate could have been decided for her. Those last months of life were filled with sorrow and pleas to a God that refused to listen. Luckily she died during childbirth and was saved from the torture the Master had planned for her.

Everyone had thought that the Master’s favorite girl had gone mad. She cried and screamed that it was by an Angel that she had become pregnant. But with Urijiah locked in Hell there was no way for him to confirm that she was telling the truth. It wasn’t until the birth of her child…a beautiful and glowing baby girl that the Master realized there was truth to his favorite girls claim.

With his love now dead, he took possession of the child, claimed her a slave and locked her away. He would never make the same mistake as he had with her mother. This child would be guarded, and would never be let out of his sight.

    Recent History

Escape was relatively easy. After so many years of being locked away in her bedroom, the Master thought a little sunshine might do her well. He could see the growing depression, the same longing that had driven his former love and Charlotte’s very mother into the arms of disobedience. He decided that rather than continue to guard her so jealously he would open his home up and allow her to wander the halls and on days when she was on particularly good behavior to even explore the gardens within the gates.

From there it was simply a matter of continuing to earn his trust. She was as warm, as appreciative of her new freedom as she imagined anyone should be. When he visited her she happily recited poetry for him or granted him the pleasure of tedious debates on slavery…she never did win those.

Three months after the door to her bedroom was permanently unlocked it was a matter of wandering out into the garden, waiting until the guards turned their back and disappearing right out of the front gates.

But liberty wasn't what she expected. The world didn’t immediately open up and welcome her as an equal individual with the same rights as everyone else. The world she walked into was vicious and violent. It seems common law that the strong should somehow control the weak…and that what is beautiful and seemingly useless should be possessed as either a trophy or destroyed for its lack in usability. Granted that her ability to heal seems a rather coveted skill, but her inability to explain from where this gift comes from, often makes her fall into either the category of a witch or that of a divine creature.

She does not believe herself to be either of the two.
