    Seeking audience with admins/moderators

Well, I keep looking around for a place to post, and I just can't seem to find a thread where my char would be welcomed or fit in. Everywhere I look I keep getting this feeling that I am limited in being totally and freely creative by some greater story going on on this website of which I am regretfully uninformed, and of which I don't wish to interrupt or disrespect with my ignorance. As a result I've ended up with this sense that whatever I post it won't fit into whatever's going on here on valucre regardless of where it's posted. That's quite frustrating because of how active valucre seems to be wherever I look. I guess in the end I am just looking for some tips for joining the action here on valucre without stepping on someones toes and getting off to a bad start with other members. Thoughts and advice about where I can post and what I am free to do and where are all greatly appreciated. Thanks, and sorry to bother any or all of you with this.

Why don't you start your own thread? People have multitudes of characters and they are not all in use, so I am sure people would respond. So then you could create your own story! I am sorry, I haven't checked, but I am curious if you have a profile thread up? I'd love to learn more about your character. I play "Father Darkness" or rather ".Łϵ Ʈϵϰϵƀɍϵ. ", which I think may be a character that is very similar to yours, in which case, it would be really fun to role-play two representations of Darkness together! And definitely don't feel like your imposing on anyone's role-play, if you're really afraid you might be, you can message them and find out. But most threads that are not classified as "closed" are open to all players ( I think! ). And definitely don't be scared to be a dynamic force in a story that brings about a twist or change. Happy hunting! <3

All I can say R, mind you, I am only fairly new here myself and learning how everything works and the likes... but... just find a section that interests you, read up a little on the information and just post. Think of a concept, then get it out there and not think too much about it, otherwise the idea can go stagnant and one can become disheartened due to uncertainty or feeling they are walking on egg shells due to what others may/may not think. If you are unsure, simply ask the author of the thread, IF you wish to join one. I have found most here are happy to offer information or assistance.

I guess at the end of the day... the important thing is that you enjoy yourself and your story, if people are interested in the concept they will join in or ask to. If not, don't feel conflicted or take it personally, some things take time and some have busy lives and cannot post every day. You are a good player, I can vouch for that, just take it easy and relax, and the rest will fall into place =)

It is the role-play that speaks for itself.

Agreed to the above posts. While the task itself may seem daunting, I recommend you either pick an ongoing story to jump in on or create your own thread and allow role-play itself to introduce your character and somebody should drop in. Now that you have made this thread expressing your interest, I am sure there will be people waiting to see what you have in store for us.

Thanks, that does address some of the things I've had on my mind. I will hopefully manage to get something written in that case. Hmmm..Well, to quote Charlotte, "And definitely don't be scared to be a dynamic force in a story that brings about a twist or change. Happy hunting! <3 "

Does this mean I am free, perhaps even encouraged, to aspire to "greatness" and to change the layout of the IC world here on valucre with my char? Or is that something that the sites staff discourages because of the apparent amount of work that has been put into the "lore" of valucre?

For major changes, you would most definitely need prior approval from the board owner of whichever continent you're wanting to play on. There is a process that must be followed. You can read more about it here.

There is no central storyline for Valucre. That's the way I made the site to be, specifically. I did this because, before I made Valucre, I had joined a few of those types of forums myself and it was, in essence, just a story that the administrator wanted to do. You either took up one of the roles available or you didn't play.

I wasn't a fan of that. There are hundreds of individual stories on the forum, ranging from the global (Use the Search function and look up "Arcana campaign", which is the most recent attempt by one of our members to try a global plot) to the simply interpersonal. You can join any of these or start your own, but it's important to me to dash away the misconception that there's a grand, unifying story that you're being excluded from.

The best places to check up on newly made/current/active plots is in the Water Cooler, the sub-board in general, and in a thread in the water cooler called the Open Threads Listing, which is user maintained and not indicative of all open threads on the site.

You are HEAVILY encouraged to aspire to greatness, and impact the Valucre canon however you wish. We have a Canonization process, which Morgan here has linked you to. We have this process in place not to discourage members from making an impact on the world, but to discourage members from doing so recklessly. Valucre is not the place for someone to come in and try to destroy a town, by themselves, in two posts.

So I want to use a past event as a working example.

    http://www.valucre.com/content.php/249-Tia

Click there and scroll to the bottom, to the Canon section. There you'll see a paragraph about how a night-club in Tia was blown up. The creator of the night-club just made it up as a cool place for his character. I didn't feel like the creation of the night-club as a thread was a big deal so he didn't have to submit it through canon*. So his thread is hopping with activity and later on someone comes and blows it up (I don't want to ruin the thrill of reading the thread so I'm keeping the summary short). 11 pages later, the creator submitted the night-club for canonization and it got approved. So now the lore article references both the club and the fact that it got blown up.

*As far as what constitutes a big enough change to submit through canon, it varies from board to board. I can only speak definitively about Terrenus. But as for another example, one player might kill an NPC politician as a throw-away action in a single post; this requires no canon. Another might make the assassination of a political figure central to their thread, and they mean to effect greater story change through assassinating him; this I would submit.

    Does that make sense?

The whole point Carlos (and everyone else) is trying to make here, is do what you want, bro.

If you do something wrong, somebody'll say something.

You fuck up in a big way, it'll get checked.

But what's important is that we want you writing! Get at it!
