School Location and Information

The central station of the Gaian Academy is better known as Marlboro Keep, though it should be noted that those attending the academy will have their courses spanning the length and width of Terrenus. The teachers and administration of the academy cannot dedicate their time solely to teaching, though they do recognize the necessity to proliferate knowledge and wisdom to any seeking to learn, and so they make time.

The teachers station themselves all across Terrenus, usually in situations conducive to their specific plan, and have the students come to them. Although walking to the teacher’s locale on foot is optional, there is also a Free Gate located at the center of the academy that is capable of transporting students to wherever they need to go.

This year, field trips have been implemented, now that alliances between diverse enough nations have been initiated and maintained; this allows for vast cultural diffusion and extirpation of knowledge. Students have the option of taking a field trip to the Sirenhome, Yascera, and Rosinder.

Enrollment

The enrollment process first begins at any temple of Gaia to be found throughout the whole of Terrenus, where a person is indoctrinated into the faith, made to hand write their own bible from the main, large copy to be found at the temple’s back, and then sent along their way to the Academy. It should be noted now that, though apprentices are commonly young, it is not unorthodox to have an adult enroll into the academy. Faith does not discriminate against age.

The enrollees then spend an hour talking with a senior priest who provides questions and scenarios to the apprentice to test the integrity of the apprentice’s faith. The room is layered in truth spells, and the senior priests themselves seem capable of discerning lies, to ensure honesty in responses. The academy does not require that faith be strong, but that it be present.

Faith in the mother is not a requirement for the professors, merely the students.

The school has eight sections for development, with the newest students being First year and the senior student being Eighth years.

Housing

There are eight houses to accommodate each year of students, with the first housing being the largest, having to house the largest number of new enrollees, and the eighth house being the smallest, as more and more people are weeded out due to the stringent requirements of each class.

Discipline

Those who have infringed repeatedly, or to an undue degree, on the basic moral code of life are immediately expelled from the academy and excommunicated from the church. Discipline for minor offenses, such as picking fights, racial slurs, espionage, or social terrorism are dealt with at the hand of varying degrees of punishment.

There is no list of orthodox punishment, as they come few and far between, but it seems that the professors are capable of acting with impunity when dealing with students, as most professors are hand-picked by Odin himself and thought to be fair and righteous. If a punishment is, consequently, too severe the punisher in question will have to deal with Odin face to face.

How am I learning?


All apprentices to the Gaian Academy will start off with a Rank F in all but one of their abilities. Students are allowed to choose one Rank to move up to a Rank D, as to be explained by that character’s unique history or inherent ability, but all other Ranks are to be advanced through attending this school.


It takes a varied amount of GP (Gaian Points) to advance one Rank by one letter ( F to D, or C to B, for example), and the points will be awarded by the various administrators that are overseeing the academy. Just like real school, the more you want to learn, the more you will. If your character shows initiative and determination, compared to another character who just sits around in the back of class all the time, you will natural advance faster through the class than your lazy counterpart.


Since your entire life will not revolve around the school, a character will be allowed to roleplay outside of the academy anywhere on the boards. Usage of classroom abilities outside of the classroom will warrant the reward of GP’s, but the distribution of these points will be solely left up to the administration. Although we do require that, if exercising your ability outside of the class, that you point us to the exact post.


Roughly put, your character will actually be attending classes, and, much like in real school, some days of attendance will be more important than others. At the end of each class, based upon your character’s participation, the ‘professor’ will delegate Gaian Points and your character will advance accordingly.


You will note that there are many classes that focus upon the theory of doing something, such as Elemental Theory or Introduction to the Schools of Magic. Gaian Points that are earned in theory will provide multipliers or bonuses to points earned in the practical application of that theory. For instance – Elemental Theory will assist you when you you are learning or practicing elemental magic. In addition, some classes, such as Geomancy, will have class periods devoted wholly to theory, while there are not classes dedicated wholly to the theory of that particular skill.

* While S rank is theoretically attainable, the general idea is that it is not attainable through normal means. For example, Odin Haze and Dijura Denitsai both maintain an S rank in earthbending (Geomancy), but the means by which they have attained such power are either innate characteristics or extenuating circumstances. This is not to say that you cannot attain S ranks in certain skills, only that you must search far and wide, and risk your very life to be able to gain such skill, and that such a skill isn’t attainable at the academy.

This is the second semester at the academy.

The "boon" used in the academy's incipience will be removed. Instead, students will be asked to pick three classes to advance one rank. That is from F to D or from D to C. Students that are returning for a second semester will be asked to pick 2 to advance from last semester (to catch them up), and then an additional three for this semester.

It will be left up to new registrants (that is someone joining us for the first time) whether they would like to have had been attending for two semesters, or if this will be their first time in the academy halls.

The only classes that will be played are the ones that have teachers. To date we have four teaches, so expect as many or even less classes. I still have to talk to the teachers. So though there will be 7 assumed classes for the semester, only four of them will get any exposure. The others will be assumed knowledge and interaction.

The religious affiliations necessary to join the academy are no longer necessary. Though you once had to be Gaian, and remain steadfast to the faith, to join the academy, that is no longer the case. All students, however, will be expected to pass a simple alignment test to make sure that they aren't evil, but belief in the faith is no longer necessary.

Students will be assigned to specific threads randomly. This will get each class a decent and evenly spread measure of exposure.

I'll keep this thread up for a little while and see if we can hook in any new fish. If, at the end of this, we have more teachers than we have students, we'll have to make necessary cutbacks. Those teachers that are cut out are more than welcome to re-join as students.

A majority of the works of literature she possesses are actually fictional novels, most of which deal with romance as either a primary genre or sub-genre.
