History
Talraan was left in the care of an influential magic user shortly after her conception. The reasons behind this are unclear and though her guardian knows why, he remains elusive with the truth, his reasoning unclear. But though her birth place is unknown she is happy to call the Imperial District her home. There she has been raised by her 'uncle', Oxtavus. Now Oxtavus has never let her forget the history of her lineage, a bloody one at that, with her bloodline being that of a Vampiric race. War rages among all, humans, elves, etc. but the one that raged among her own kind was everlasting and depraved. Oxtavus shields her from some parts of the tale, for he knows that there is a time and place to reveal the horrors, but for now his charge is best left in some ignorance.
Her uncle has taught her from the beginning that truth or information is the one true power that surpasses all others. His political affiliations not always permitting him to adhere to this code but he has passed down this wisdom and more to the child he looks at as his own. Though Talraan is not mortal, she at times is more human than those around her. The constant scheming, intrigue and mysterious deaths of those in power has shown her that her own bloodlust can pale in comparison to that of her peers. Not one for political power herself she nonetheless will attend meetings on occasion with Oxtavus to better understand the world around her and it's many complexities. Those few who call Oxtavus friend always look forward to the duo's companionship within the exceedingly dull assemblies, for both are philosophically inclined and though they do censure the majority of their thoughts their brutal honesty of the presented situations are a breathe of life in an otherwise stagnant conversation.
Yet, there are those that do not appreciate the duo's presence. Some seeing Oxtavus as eccentric and too liberal with his thoughts, while others fear the older man's influence over not only the political clime but of Talraan as well. The young women, though appearing quiet and genteel, has a power at her disposal over not only magic but that of her heritage. While most other races are secluded to the fifth district, Aerryen, Talraan is able to walk freely among those who consider themselves 'noble'. This is not tolerated well, though it is hidden behind false civility. But Talraan misses little, her instincts and keen mind showing her the truth that most try to keep buried. This is one of the many reasons the young women stays to herself, choosing to closet herself in her and Oxtavus home and leaving only rarely for the School of Magic where even there her classmates loathe and fear her. This might be why Talraan has taken up a new habit of late, one where she is required to leave under the cover of darkness, when the streets are quiet and those she abhorres sleep soundly under their silken sheets.
There are many rules enforced on the Giulara, for reasons known and unknown. As she ages though, albeit slowly physically, she has come to cherish the freedom she has too often been denied...
Personal
Weaknesses:
Blood-
Though not needed to sustain their physical forms the hunger to consume blood, preferably human, is a constant. So great can the hunger be that at times it is compared to a beast within. Like two sides of the same coin the Living Vampire has both human and Undead characteristics shared within one mind, body and soul. This can drive even the sanest to the brink of madness, the constant war between morality and insatiable bloodlust has conquered even the eldest of the race. Though one can find balance. If the being consumes only animals blood, coupled with mortal food, it can sway the beast into a lull that can last indefinitely. Though animal blood is only half as satisfying, as long as the creature in question never consumes human blood then the beast has only a small amount of control, for the taste of a mortal's blood is like a drug to an addict. Now in extreme cases, usually born of starvation, emotional distress, or survival, the mind of the Living Vampire will fall back, instinctively, to the beast within.. This is a defense mechanism, relying solely on the hunger and pure instinct of their more animalistic nature when all else fails.
