(I was unaware of this thread. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Here is my pick for the week though.)

They pulled up to the theatre a few minutes later. The outside bustled with activity. People milling about, entertaining all sorts of conversation about the play, its writer, allegories and fables and interpretations. Shady looking fellows trying their best to hustle back-row tickets, and privately hired security of course. Town guards had too many rules to operate under; too many limitations to give off that sense of security the actors need.

Faustus was the last to step from the carriage, but the first to step into the theatre itself, dropping four tickets into the hand of the doorman and motioning towards his entourage. They treated him as they would any other simple consumer, unaware that they stood next to the devil.

The seats were front row center.

To say that the woman was beautiful was a daft exaggeration. Many beautiful women arrive in Artifacture, but this creature was despondent. There was nothing beautiful on her in any form of an attractive manner at all. Her alabaster skin had been stained from all of the dirt she had been dragged through, and her clothing was so overly fitted and unflattering, many people who stared still thought it to be some loathsome male or wild animal. You couldn’t make out her features at all, and her fingers were gnarled and stiff in crooked positions, one might sooner call them the boughs of a tree rather than proper fingers. And while she was humanoid, she was also strikingly not, but figuring out the manner of “not” she was seemed improbable: sylph or dryad, Valkyrie or harpee, elf or angel, or giantess or elemental.
