Ardon Dallas In the nights since The Commander had declared war against Nu Martyr a blanket of still silence had enveloped the province. Each night fathers locked the doors and shuttered the windows, mothers hurried their children home in hushed voices. Fearful voices. Children, to young to truly understand the depth of their situation, remained ignorant to everything butt the occasional quiver in the voice of the parents. Nor were they oblivious to the ways the eyes of strangers darted around anxiously, yet never made eye contact. Those few that did quickly looked away, not wanting to chance the potential of doom. In all manners of the phrase, Nu Martyr had sunk into a state of waiting. Waited to see what would come. Dreaded the approaching calamity. But even the least of them could sense the near tangible aura of death permeating around them. It was there. And they could fear it. Hate it. Run screaming in terror into the night. But it was coming. She was coming. And there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. The sense of foreboding was prevalent not just in the outskirts or the smaller cities scattered through Nu Martyr, but also in the Capitol City itself. The Commander's threat had not failed to spread into the province's heart, poisoning and corrupting its way to even the PRIME Ardon Dallas. The man found himself constantly stopping to take in deep breaths, failed attempts in lower his heartbeat and arresting the small trembles that shook his arms. Even pouring himself a simple bourbon was a struggle. He was a politician for Tellus Mater's' sake. Not a soldier or a general. He was ambition, sure, but a politician nonetheless. Oh gods, what if She breaks through the city defenses? Ardon sighed, pouring himself another glass after downing the first. The thought was a useless one. He'd prepared the best that any PRIME could. Military at the ready, generals called back to help plan, and war schematics sorted out until they'd all been worked to the bone. He was ready. There was no way She would make it to him. Nu Martyr the city was itself huge. A powerful city-state within the continent of Renovatio. But when combined with the help sent from the Allied Nations of Terrenus, Kadia, and every city in the Province? The PRIME shook his head in disbelief. If the cult's Commander could fight against that much fire power, surely the entire world would have been after her already. He put down his cup and beckoned a man through, tilting his head in acknowledgement. "How are the defenses looking?" Lilith Reiter The evening sun had barely begun to fall when the citizens of Keto were shrouded in literal darkness. In moments that sun had been blotted out by a black cloud or, rather, a cloud of dense black fog that moved at inhuman speeds. As if born from the cloud, the fog formed a dark skull. A golden colored crescent moon shining from within each of the sockets as streams of that black smoke shot out from the cloud and skull down toward the city. At first people were surprised, though not overly so. After all rain clouds were quite usual considering they all but lived int he clouds. Then panic slowly started to set in as it became obviously apparent that the cloud was not of a natural making. And the skull appeared. People panicked, taking off in all directions for shelter or just in simply helpless retreat in the face of something overwhelming. It was the crescent moons that set in place who it was. What was happening. The Commander had arrived. Hundreds, if not a thousands, of those streams of black smoke slammed into buildings and city roads. Infrastructure collapsed at nothing but their entrance, not withstanding even long enough to be directly dealt with. Paragon after Paragon landed in Keto, clearing the way for Her. In moments the Paragons had wiped out every other living life within a mile of their landing zone. Buildings fell to their combined might, being swiftly decimated into dust until the land was completely flat. The hadn't needed to or been ordered to do so, but it was a show of loyalty. Of respect. For some, even of worship. A final surge of black burst from the skull of smoke, causing it to grow formless. This one, however, was levels darker than the others. A palpable corrupted around it that could strike fear into the most righteous or the most villainous without a care for their alignment. It was a primal authority raised even further by the corrupted powers She wielded with the ease that a blacksmith might a hammer. Lilith Reiter landed in Keto, rings of dust exploding outward from the force of her arrival. The necromancer motioned toward the nearest Paragon without bothering to so much as look their way. "Grab a few others and begin preparations for the Summoning. The magic circle will not have any mistakes, is that understood?" The Paragon nodded. "Yes Commander." Ignoring the Paragon her red eyes stared into the distance, though not into the nothingness of an unknowable beyond. No. She stared toward the Capitol City of Nu Martyr. The force of her gaze perhaps even sparking a primal alert of danger in anyone within its path. Deathbringer sheathed at her side beat a steady purple glow, as if excited for all the souls it would soon consume. Despite its number of souls already being enormously high, this meal would dwarf it all. Its apparent excitement leaking into even her, adding an equivalent purple glow to her eyes as well. The purple energy surged through Zengi's Gauntlet and the Genesaris Soul Stone, white and black lights joining with the purple. And then an aura of necromancy soared for hundreds of miles in every direction, claiming Keto as hers. For war was not coming to Nu Martyr anymore. It was already there; and all around Keto the screams of opposition rang out like dying chirps of squashed insects.

Talk, talk, talk, they brought us here for war didn’t they? I want to fight some undead things. The Watchers are in the capital city. Their purpose is threefold: Defend the city, keep the crown hidden and turn the living dead into the even more dead.

Thurgood Singlance- he was born in Greenwood, Indiana in the late eighties (1987 to be exact), which was a fair bit of time after the Civil Rights movement of the sixties and seventies, and white people were trying to demonstrate their lack of racism, so his parents named him after the first United States Supreme Court Justice that had a skin tone darker than light tan, Thurgood Marshall. Then the PJs aired... ...don't ever call him "Goody" or mention the Hati Lady. Challara Arabett- I formed her first name, and family name from options on this site, from "chal", meaning earth or stable, and "lara" that means cynic, death, or end.

@Grubbistch Sir Derek Barbossa, the Legendary Rook of Lunaris Quickly raising through the ranks of Taen's military forces prior to Titus' crusade against King Damien Gillick, Derek Barbossa was hailed as something of a hero among the people of Lunaris. He'd been one of the first settlers to enter Taen and one of the first to endorse Titus has emperor. Even without his top tier combat abilities, Derek had once been a major strategist with the Lunarian armed forced. It was his plan which allowed Taen to take out Damien Gillick and conquer Ursa Madeum with minimal loss. He died at the hands of Gillick's Black Knights, fighting off two of those corrupted elite soldiers on his own so that Titus and the generals could head to the palace. He fell in the pursuit of Ursa Madeum's liberation from Damien and the for the glory of Taen. Derek was born and raised until the age of twenty in a small, nameless city sitting on the outskirts of Dougton. Upon hearing stories of a magical land connected to the Blue HIlls, he'd adventured over there. His life wasn't the easiest nor the hardest, but has resonated with many throughout the Veluriyam Empire as one of courage, loyalty, and purity in the face of evil.

Is it over? After getting knocked down by some kind of enemy ability earlier, Sera was finally realizing the final moments of this battle. There were no last stands for her nor songs of victory. There were only exhaustion and the stark relief of surviving yet another life-threatening encounter. I didn't even get to fight anything. It may have not been her preferred outcome but Sera knew it was the best. She picked herself up then, her eyes shifting towards the wagon. It's still safe. Guess that means I did well this time. Sera allowed herself to chuckle for this brief moment of success before she turned her attention to the dead monsters farther ahead. There wall sorts of loot spilling out of their guts and it was both a questionable and rather distressing sight. She's not complaining though. Guess I can just loot one of these for my reward. That needlessly large shield looks perfect for me. That loot is mine! All mine!

Lilith Brings War to Nu Martyr

This is something I talked to Dre about when rosinder was still rosinder but basically unless I’m mistaken this would put Reno basically out in space. For earth “space” starts at about 60 miles above the surface. If we double that (for the sloppy 2x rule of thumb) and give some +\- 10%, we get 120-132 (or 140) as a threshold before you’re out of the thermosphere and just between planets IRL planes go about 7-8 miles in the air. We (me and Dre) had discussed Reno being 5-10 miles in the air and didn’t get more specific than that before he stopped checking in. Now you can do with reno whatever you want including changing how high it floats or having that be variable but 4000 miles is INTENSE basically

@Hurttoto Renovatio is floating in the air! And since it is an island, it is surrounded by water as well. Right directly beneath it is another landmass known as Kalopsia, it too is an island but is in the water and not in the air like Renovatio. @Ataraxy I know you asked this forever ago and I wasn't able to get to you in time; Renovatio is ~4,000 miles in the air.

Even though their primary threat was demonic based, the argument could be made the Watchers closest second enemy was the undead. Their leader Nathan in particular held the living dead as unnatural blights; vile parodies of the truly living people of the world. And it had to be stopped. As per their usual pre-battle ritual, the five of them stood in a line just outside the city, waiting for the enemy to make their entrance, honing their blades and saying prayers. Max, the most pious of them was the loudest and most eager to use his swords. “Sacred, eternal Heavens and those who dwell in them watch over us today.” He intoned, cracking his neck in the process. His eyes scanned the horizon, searching for any hidden danger. “Men of evil seek our lives. They are gathered for war. Their tongues are as serpents and their lips are as poison.’ ‘Gods, source of our strength, grant not the desire of the wicked. Cover our heads on the day of battle.” Before he could finish, the older, taller man beside him snorted. “You talk too much, brother. The Gods aren’t here today. It’s the five of us, you hear me?” Max threw his friend a dirty look. “You may have turned away from the Gods, Gale, but some of us still hold faith.” ”That’s enough, you two.” Said Nathan, folding his arms behind his back. His tone was that of a father scolding his bickering children. “Our mission is to prevent both this city and the crown from falling into enemy hands.” “We’re all aware of why we’re here, Jameson.” Said Arthur, the group’s second in command. “But then, I think we forget our other purpose.” ”Too true, Sir Arthur.” Said Nathan, drawing his sword. “I think it’s time we remind the world of who we are and why we are here. Remember our training. Stay together and we will make it through this war.” He raised his blade high. “Watchers, with me!”

Good question 😍 Once again, starting with House Hildebrand and then working my way down later on: HILDEBRAND PART 1 For the UM farming house, it became apparent I needed some nature names, so here we are 😂 Varda - means pink rose in Hebrew and granter of boons in Hindu. In floriography, pink roses symbolize admiration, gentleness, and sympathy; it all rather sums up the Lady Hildebrand nicely 😊 Jasper - means bringer of treasure or treasurer in Persian, which eventually translated to his status as the Hildebrand steward and bursar. It can also refer to the gemstone of the same name; according to crystal meanings, the red jasper means patience, persistence, and stability. Aspen - taken from the poplar tree also called aspen, which has heart-shaped leaves that quiver in the lightest breeze, hence its nickname as the "quaking" or "trembling" aspen. In Celtic mythology, the aspen tree is considered a sacred whispering tree: associated with language, communication, the wind, endurance, and resurrection—make of that what you will 👀 Nairne "Nai" - means dwells at the alder-tree river in Scottish Gaelic. In Celtic mythology, the alder tree represents the balance between male and female principles, courage, death and resurrection, and is also considered the tree of fairies. Esme - means esteemed, beloved, emerald from French and Persian origin. According to Indian mythology, the name emerald was first translated from Sanskrit as marakata, meaning "the green of growing things." Kalika - means rosebud in Greek, which eventually translated to the character's love for red roses. Kalika is also taken from the Hindu goddess associated with empowerment, time, and change; kali comes from kāla, which means black, time, and lord of death 👀 Suri - means princess or rose in Persian, or the sun in Sanskrit, which eventually translated to her role as the light of her parents' otherwise murky lives, as well as her status as the little princess of House Hildebrand. Hildebrand - a character from Germanic legend. The word hild means "battle" and brand means "sword", hence relating to House Hildebrand's history as warriors prior to settling down and tending to their fields under Queen Decamron. There are plenty of stories and songs that show the Germanic Hildebrand fighting members of his own family, such as his son and his half-brother, with often fatal consequences 👀 Bonus: Merelese "Merel" - @ethela penna's character; after some digging, I found out her name is the Dutch word for blackbird, and it also means "shining sea", according to other sources.

Draug is Sindarin for “wolf”, hence tattooed wolf hand and friendly wolf dog. I like to follow a theme. While draugr are irritating zombies in Skyrim, they have a far more interesting place in Nordic folklore. I was inspired by the tradition of draugs in Scandinavian folklore, where they were revenants of men that died at sea and are now land bound. It fits with his backstory of an adventurous stabman that has now locked up his former nature to focus on running Book|Ends. Like I said, I like themes. Vesper is both a nightly prayer and a cocktail in Casino Royale. I went with the nightly prayer thing, because she attacks in the night and you should probably start praying. Ioreth is where I thought I was being clever (“lore” - “l” + “i” + “eth” = scholarly elf name), but was accidentally stealing a minor character’s name from Return of the King. The joke is on me, because Tolkien noted that Ioreth translates to “Old Woman” in Sindarin.

Ragnar Amarth- I felt when I created something new and different from what I'm accustomed to creating. So I thought of something that'd be a real personal name to me in terms of real life personal. One of my favorite bands is Amon Amarth (heavy metal viking band) so I took Amarth from that and Ragnar was from my favorite Skyrim bard song "Ragnar the Red". Ragnar's fathers name is Vignar (someone also from Skyrim). Minerva- Minerva was difficult to find an origin behind but I did decide on Minerva (Athenas counterpart). The goddess of war, strategy and wisdom seems to fit the ancient girl because she can summon an army of atronachs and strategize which kind of atronach will be used and how they'll be used based on the situation. She also got her wisdom from a demon named Astaroth (the Great Duke of Hell) and her one eye is the demons sigil which she is not afraid of people openly seeing.

Well, many of my character names were pulled out of a generator, so if they mean anything it is unintentional 😂 But there are a few with meaning, so I'll share them here: Gormaric- Okay, you've got me, this is one of the generated names. But it sounds like the name of a man who is just standing there... menacingly! Also, the third result on a google search for Gormaric links to him and all of this threads on Val lmao. His last name, however, Warmoon... suffice to say that it's meaningful to events that will occur in the future 👀 Neque- This one is Latin and means something along the lines of "not", "neither", or "nor". It's very indicative of the experience he faced while his soul was shattered and his body annihilated, and also reflects a little on his nature. He may be known as the Shadow King, but he is neither fully evil nor fully good in the end... at least from his viewpoint, he falls more towards the center of the spectrum, going a little bit toward the 'evil' end. Sibyla- The name is derived from the Sibyls of Greek legend, oracles/prophetesses who uhh, did exactly what you might expect. Something I've hinted at with the nature of the Inanis but haven't fully explored IC is how that power manifests differently depending on the wielder. The Inanis as used by Gormaric is very combative and militaristic in nature, used to strengthen his own power, to defend himself against incoming attacks, and to heal wounds (though far less effectively than dedicated healing magic would). As used by Sibyla, it is far more subtle and manipulative, letting her taking on different forms and identities to achieve her goals, to see deeply into others and try to subtly bend them to her will, to speak in the dreams of others, and, yes, to sometimes see fragments of the future and formulate plans and strategies for several possibilities extrapolated from these. As for Neque, well, it's a secret to everybody for the time being 🧐 Father Roggan- An Age of Empires reference on Val? It's more likely than you'd think. This guy is literally an Age of Empires priest unit converted into character form. His name is a reference to a unit's spoken phrase/taunt from the first/second Age of Empires game, and his catchphrase of 'Wololo' comes from the same boat. He's a blast to write for lol, I just don't have much opportunity to use him outside of memey/lighthearted threads. Elson- A good quality boi whose name and personality are derived from a character from Paul Wang's Infinite Sea setting. Not much else to say about him, love to write for him but the threads he's in seem to run on Valve time sometimes, lol.

Since @Tyler mentioned it 🤣 I'll break down one of my fave pc. Holiness "Holly" Sheathe- When I created her I only wanted to make some lame joke about "Holly Sheathe." Did not expect her to develop this much tbh. Holiness worked well as a running gag for her nickname "Holly Sheathe" and her codename back in the Blackspear cartel as the "Black Hoe." Holly living her whole life life as a farmer and her recent return to UM as a noble vassal under the Hildebrand only made my naming sense even worse. This only led to making lame puns like "Sheathey Farms" "Land of Sheathes" and "Holly land". Also, Holly claiming the Oathblade Sunscar only lead to "The Sword and its Sheathe" line. Poor Holly. 🤣🤣🤣

Okay, I'm looking through 5, 6, 7, 8, and I realize...mine isn't a diary entry? It seems like a hit list of sorts, with the scratched out names 👀 There are the previously mentioned names/families(?) from the previous diary entry by Ingsol Amelie and Claudius Spirae seem to match the blacked-out text in Ingsol's page talking about his parents ("son of C--- and A----"), so I guess they're the parents of the four siblings? The names of the four siblings aren't blacked-out this time, so thus properly confirming their actual names; so good so far! "The Great Pine Barrens" - yep, that's the place @Witch pointed out, so that might definitely be where they are! I've only thought about my page so far, but skimming the others, I'm thinking—there are three diary entries. Where's the fourth? 👀

So as part of my overhaul for the lore page for Port Mars, I thought I would do a thing where the city was cut up into various districts that will have a statue dedicated to a fallen warrior from the War against King Damien. These statues will denote what the district is as well as some information about said warrior, which side they fought for as well as how they died. Now for this little project I would greatly appreciate some help from fellow house heads if they wish to contribute, with the obvious exceptions being Singlance and Senaria. If you could it would be greatly appreciated if you could come up with a bit of a blurb for a warrior who had fought in the war, how they died and maybe some other information about them. Should you decide not to take part I completely understand but would ask that I might have permission to create my own warriors of your house to be featured in Port Mars. Thank you for your consideration

    Through Sigil’s Door (open)

KHAKINA "KHAKI" KHATUN It was time. Khakina Khatun was more than ready for this venture. It was her chance to explore the realms beyond her own. She had heard stories from PRTY about such worlds. The little girl in her was enamored with such things that she took everything the eldritch abomination told deep into her young, nubile heart. When word about an expedition to the realms far from her home, Khaki did not think twice before signing up. She did not expect that her employer this time would be the questionable Miss Blonde. It seems this was quite the small world. There's not much of a choice there anyway. It's either one does or doesn't and Khakina was never one to back down from a challenge. So there she is steadily approaching the portal, her dark coat fluttering in tune with her every step. Even the eldritch abomination inside her was giddy with anticipation. She can feel the thrum of power within every relic hidden within her possession. The presence of such powerful trinkets was very comforting for a young and nubile little girl like Khakina. She would not know what to do if these relics were not there to protect her. That and she's still carrying her pair of pistols, ones she handcrafted herself. This should do well until they can resupply later on in their journey. Soon, she kept telling herself. Soon.

    Akako Akari

Return of the Fallen Yokai Queen

It was becoming more and more common that she would find her shadow as the only consistent companion in her life. It was purposeful; though it didn't make it any less painful. Humans craved and needed companionship, touch, and love. In this, she was no different from them. It was deplorable, burdensome, and entirely unacceptable. After all these years, she'd hoped to turn it off entirely. While she had come close, she still had urges and moments where those longings haunted her like an unyielding phantom, an emotional poltergeist that tormented her. She was immortal, once called a Queen in rumor and reputation only. Whispers of the Queen of Yokai had since quieted with her frequent disappearances. The longer she lingered here, the more ties she made, the more relationships she built only to tear apart. It was a predetermined cycle that despite others' efforts, remained. As a series came full circle, the demoness would return to the void. In her seclusion, she precariously rebuilt the wall, the defenses she guarded so carefully. Over the last few years, she was absent more often than not. Lately, Akako had made many appearances throughout a few weeks to visit acquaintances despite her reluctance. Favors had been called in, and she found herself involved in foolishness, though, it did help the time pass. She justified returning because her impassive nature was intact and her ironclad walls were in place. There had been a slight misstep, but Akako had swiftly corrected the error and felt confident enough to wander Arcane East after her brief visit to Terrenus. It seemed like no matter where she went, it was unbearably cold. Drifts of snow fell in hypnotic swirls that the daiyokai watched with mild interest. Everything else was quiet. Rarely did she pass any other travelers, likely because of the mage-storms. Though, Akako didn't seem to care either way. Perhaps to onlookers, it was reckless, but the demoness could and would slip beyond the veil to avoid the worst of it if it came down to it. She always seemed to have a contingency plan, or she didn't honestly care. If she were meant to die, then she would and hopefully if she did again, no one would be so foolish to bring her back. Several millennia was enough. Her travels were aimless, passing Umbra, hugging the mountain line as she went. There were no used roads here. However, there were small settlements here and there that she didn't pause to explore. Smoke from fires warming homes drifted up to the heavens and served as an implicit warning that the houses weren't vacant. Her true nature was hidden behind a glamour as it usually was. The curtain of her black hair fell down her back and spilled over her shoulders offering a bit of additional warmth. She was dressed in a traditional winter hikizuri kimono, her hands hidden within the sleeves. The top layer was a crisp white with golden cranes suspended in flight stitched into the fabric in an intricate scene. The layer beneath was a bright red that only showed at the vixen's neckline and each time she stepped. The obiage was a deep violet fabric that a golden obi was layered on top. It was fastened tight around Akako's waist. Even with as many layers as she wore, the demoness was cold, her fingers chilled beneath the fabric of her kimono sleeves. Memories of heat surfaced to her mind, and she craved it despite herself. It was easy to justify. It was a recent memory and pleasant. With a huff of amusement, Akako looked back to the sky again as if to dare it to open up.

Is your character’s name from another language? Is it a pun? Is it an obscure reference to something? Does it have a special meaning? Share it here! 🙂 I’ll go first - Lunara’s name comes from the Luna moth, and also from lunar, the moon. That’s because she’s a Winter/Unseelie/Dark fey, usually associated with the night. I also imagine that her wings are exactly like a luna moth’s, just purple. Darah is a Malay word for blood. It’s fitting because she’s a ruthless killer, (and the word itself sounds like a legit English name). Matahari Chaya is from Malay as well. Matahari means Sun, the literal translation being mata = eye and hari = day (eye of the day.) Chaya is adapted from cahaya, pronounced as ‘chahaya’, which means light or shine. Matahari is one of the four manly men bodyguards (read: harem) of a Kalopsia princess. I thought the name was poetic for the setting!

Cain Rose was based on— you guessed it— the biblical Cain. But there's more intersectionality than just the name. The biblical curse of Cain, for example, cursed the land Cain farmed to remain barren but Cain would be protected by God from premature death, or from anyone killing him. In my young opinion, Cain was original sin apart from deities, and he got off super light by God's hand in punishment. He raised a family and built cities afterward, however successful/unsuccessful they were. Cain has certainly done that, and growing then leaving or dissolving territories for others with him is a habit I've come to enjoy and embodies that. Cain being my bad guy, I wanted him to be a symbol of original humanly sin apart from gods and devils. My Cain also has the Troll, which marks his face, my interpretation of the Mark of Cain. Then you also have the descendants of Cain as lore to be the slaves and used of the earth. This is a play on the puppeteering I have Cain do. Really, my Cain is a painfully precise metaphor for bible Cain and I don't do much to hide it. I've even tried to develop a Mark of Cain for all Cain's puppets, but it didn't play as well as I'd like so I ditched the idea.

Since I never can just directly answer these questions straight away, first some filler-- I'm kinda torn between giving deliberate meaning to my character names and not giving meaning. After all, unless the character has some kind of fate/destiny tied to them, then a name is just a name to me. You don't name your child knowing what they're going to become. Your child just becomes. Giving my warrior character a name that means "battle" or "steel" or "bloody carnage" is an example of this. Unless that character was pre-destined to be a warrior, it's kinda cheesy for me. On the other hand, naming said warrior character something that means "leaf" or "potato" or "born in a sandy place" is more realistic; a name that otherwise has absolutely no bearing on what kind of character I have. It's just a name, not a name that defines the person, but a person who (later) defines the name. Granted, it's a fictional setting, so the Rule of Cool trumps the rule of reality more often than not. Still, it's a personal note that I sometimes try to refrain from conceiving character names that connect with their personality, since their personality isn't determined until they grow. That being said, here are examples where I've yet purposely chosen 'special' name meanings for my characters (and I'm therefore excluding listing characters with name meanings that have no real bearing on the characters themselves): Name: Kaori Tongwa Name Meanings: Kaori: Smell, perfume, fragrance, weaving | Tongwa: Spirit of the lake This is a name meaning that directly connects with the character, but also due to a 'pre-destined' reason. There's more to Kaori than meets the eye, as well as her birth, so I thought it fitting to give her a name that pretty much defines her. It's as much IC as it is OOC. Name: Wallace Ambrose Name Meanings: Wallace - "foreigner" | Ambrose - "immortal" This one is coincidental. I randomly chose "Wallace Ambrose" and only later discovered the real life meanings behind the names. Wouldn't you know, they also connect quite well with the character. Name: Certos Franco Name Meanings: No idea This one is more in line with a pun. I respelled Hernando "Cortes", the Spanish conquistador in real world history, and Francisco "Franco", a dictator of Spain. Name: Vadrian Dawnwood Name Meanings: Vadrian - "light of steel" | Dawnwood - compound name of "Dawn" and "Wood" Vadrian's character is closely associated with dawn and light, iron and steel, so I first chose "Vadrian" because I liked the sound and gave meaning to it after the fact. Meanwhile, House Dawnwood was incepted from a union between the Knights of the Dawn and the Goran of Wolfwood, both located in Orisia. I mean, really now

Eldwine nodded to the three of them in their turn – Erin, Xavier and Lycoris. "Alright let's get the fuck out of here then. Take some food if you want, I'm already settled up." He slapped his knees and came to a stand. In navigating their way out of the Penguin, Eldwine was given pause a few times, these being when he bumped into Xavier's arresting bulk. It was only twice, but in those moments he found he lost a quarter inch of ground while Xavier remained completely unfazed. These negligible physical conflicts imparted on Eldwine a combined sense of confidence and anxiety. The first because Xavier was a hired hand, and Eldwine was the one footing the bill. The second because, and this applied to all of them really, he knew Xavier for less than an hour and had to map out the realistic, even if unlikely, scenario where Xavier and he were suddenly opposed to one another. It made his nerves tingle and his muscles tighten in an involuntary readiness response, but then they were out in the opens pace of the world, with the half-deafening, partially blinding atmosphere of the Penguin well in their rearview. The Penguin was on the outskirts of Martial Town's Core - their next heading brought them towards the Core's heart, and saw the group of hardened thieves and assaulters, and maybe even killers, transition into a juvenile surveillance state. There weren't cameras on every corner, but whenever Eldwine took a series of turns that saw them entering a neighborhood they just left, he explained that: "I don't want to make it too easy for anyone, you know?" Skyscrapers, the steely, glittering façades for the two-pronged pitchfork of Government and Corporation, crowded the skyline above them when Eldwine ducked them into the CyberFunk Café, pulsing, digital heart of the shopping district. They ambled past the main floor, through the arcade, to a corner hidden by holographic projection, guarded by a humanoid with no face, no muscle definition, but one-and-a-half as much bulk as Xavier and an inscrutable demeanor. Tied to the fact that it had no face. Eldwine offered it a phrase. "Don't jack in without a firewall, and make sure that you flip from ANY ANY to DENY DENY. If at all possible your hash needs to be off the chain; those blocks don't compile, public trust is for the birds and worms." A solid minute passed without engagement. Eldwine looked over his shoulders at the cool hands, sellswords, hired guns. "Don't . . . jack –" The humanoid stepped aside to grant them access to the door it obscured with its bulk. "Sorry about that." The voice projected down on them from every imaginable angle. "Latency." Five minutes later saw them broaching an unlabeled VIP room. Eldwine sat on a sofa, touched the wall next to him, from which extended a rack – on it were two thin halos, and two 'suits' with an appearance of a wire mesh with very few strands. "We're meeting my contact in the Cyberplex. Most people 'jack in' using permanent mods or these halos, so they don't have many of these control suits. These were the only two I could reserve, and one of them is for me. I need to go in to meet my contact and as many of you can, come with me. I want the extra eyes in case there's something I don't see that you do. The thing with the halos is that they limit mobility so that you don't thrash around here while you're in the virtual world. It's more immersive, but takes longer to come out of. So the two in the suits are going to be the first line of defense if something goes sideways out here; the two with the halo will be more agile in the VR. "Who's getting the other suit and who's taking the halo?"

@Turquoisie @danzilla3 @Thotification @The North Wind It wasn’t enough. Just his touch on her hand wasn’t going to cut it. In truth, Blonde was scared. Not for her own life, she had long since passed the point of accepting her own demise at the hands of war and violence. No, she was scared for the lives of her children. She was scared for Jack, and the fact that she might lose him in this dangerous endeavor. She had fought wars against galactic empires, razed planets and cities to the ground, she had built an empire on the back of crime and death, yet nothing frightened her as much as losing her children and this man. So it simply wasn’t enough. A snap-hiss of depressurization sounded as Blonde’s mask slowly came undone. With her back to the group so none of them would see her face, she lifted the piece of magic and technology enhanced metal over her head and let it rest atop it. There were no words at first, just a long and drawn out kiss. Her lips pressed against his and she held it for as long as she could. His larger frame pulled down to her level and her small form standing on the tips of her toes. It felt like an eternity, yet even that was too short. It would just have to due. ”I love you, Jack.” She whispered into his ear without the robotic augmentation of her mask. There was one last moment where she stared into his eyes, her piercing angelic blues meeting his own gaze. Then the mask was back on. The slow hiss of a pressurized and sealed environment latched on and the bright yellow LEDs once again light up. ”Two minutes! To the drop zone!” The voice yelled out. She wanted to tell him so many things. She wanted to say that if she didn’t make it, to take care of her children. She wanted to tell him that she cared for him so deeply and so immensely that even the passing thought of losing him was a nightmare. She wanted to tell him about what she knew might make or break him, but she didn’t. She didn’t tell him. He needed to be sharp for this mission, and so did she. So there was no time for it, and it could be sorted out when they returned. ”We gotta go.” her now robotic laced voice said in a low tone. With weapons in hand she pushed all thoughts of love, happiness, and vulnerability aside. She was going to get this job done even if she died, even if she had to split the stars and heavens themselves open. She would see this through until the end. So with that in mind she walked casually over towards the drop station. An area of the airship where a mechanical ramp would slowly begin to creep open. ”To the loading zone!” Blonde yelled as she grabbed her gear and made way to the ramp. A hard wind began to fill the cabin as the ramp dropped down. As Blonde stepped towards the front of it she stood mere feet away from a drop that seemed near infinite. Lightning blotted the sky and rain hit the deck behind her. In the distance a massive swirling vortex of purple energy lay at the center of the storm. That was their target, that was where they’d jump into. ”NOW I’M SURE YOU’VE ALL NOTICED THE MASSIVE SPINNING VORTEX OF DEATH!! THAT IS OUR JUMP POINT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! FOLLOW ME AND MOST OF YOU WILL SURVIVE!! ONE MINUTE TO DROP!! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND REMEMBER IT’S A GREAT DAY TO DIE!!” Blonde then turned towards the objective, towards the massive portal at the center of this world. Her heart raced and if not for her experience and ability to push her fear down, she’d of been overtook by the sheer audacity and ludicrous nature of the situation. ”ready Solomon.” She said on her private comms. ”Yes ma’am. Do me a favor while you’re home.” a familiar voice said to her. ”Pick me up some death sticks and ciggaras.” And that was it. Everyone just needed to assemble and make their final preparations and say their final prayers.

Lilith Brings War to Nu Martyr

I need to wait for enough IC time to pass for Thurgood and Aveline to hear about the war, decide to do something, get their gear together, catch an aerostat to Renovatio, then learn what's going on, and only then act. It'll take a while before Aveline starts stalking and sniping paragons.

    Cataloging the Wilds [Quest]

Sinder stared at her paper, green eyes darting from side to side, top to bottom. She was excited to go an expedition. However she was disappointed it was just documenting and nothing more. 'Oh well. At least I get to see all of the beautiful greens.' It was indeed her passion for nature that drove her to join this expedition. Though meeting new people would be nice. Non-plant people. As Sinder walked to the rendezvous point she would keep get side tracked by the bugs and animals and plants that were in her general vicinity. At one point she got so distracted by a flower's bright and vibrant colors that she stared at it for what seemed like hours but in reality was just a few minutes. She shook her head and kept walking. 'Don't get distracted unless other people do as well. You've seen plants all your life. You're used to this. It's even your job. Don't be like a-- Ooh look at that one!' Her head faced a certain plant and she stopped before she shook herself to reality again. 'Just don't do that.' Eventually the nature girl saw two people near the rendezvous point, one was heading towards it and the other was already at it. The person at the point was obviously dressed for an expedition but the person heading towards the point... well she couldn't decide what he was dressed for. Then again her outfit and supplies was far from explorer. She has a guitar and looks like someone who belongs in some weird poetry slam group. The only things that set her apart from those weirdos were her vine markings on her arms and her unnaturally green colored eyes. Seeing as she was getting closer, she thought about something that might make this whole trip easier for them all. 'Do I tell everyone that I can do virtually everything with my magic? Or do I leave it alone until it's necessary to be brought up? Maybe I should bring it up naturally as soon as possible. … Heh. Naturally.' She didn't even realize that she was standing at the rendezvous already and was staring off into the green abyss. After realizing her surroundings she looked at everyone nearby and smiled. "Hello. Nice to meet you all."

RIGHT TURN Sera laid there on the cold hard ground, under a pile of broken branches and scattered leaves. She was distraught, perhaps even disturbed. Why do I have to fight trees? Can't this maze give us proper enemies to battle? She sighed then, willing herself to roll out of her tiny hidey-hole. This was the limits of her capabilities. Her one true purpose. Killing trees is the only thing I am good at. Woe me. Now that she's clear of her cover Sera picked herself up. Her eyes took in all the destruction she had wrought and she felt joy. Yes! Fucking trees deserved this! Fuckers better not mess with Sera! There's not much to do then but to move forward. The only problem is, there are other people in the vicinity. Who are these fuckers? Her eyes narrowed as the duo approached, her hands settling themselves on her full hips. She was not amused by this development and would prefer not to to be entangled with other players. There's more than enough problems and I don't want these two fuckers messing my shit up. That was until she realized who it was. Oh? That's probably Teresa and one random dude. What should I do now? Whatever she chose, she might not have time to work on it as hailed the pair of newcomers. "Oi! Go back you turds! This is my turd!" @Ataraxy @jaistlyn

    Cataloging the Wilds [Quest]

A pair of piercing yellow eyes stared down intently at a sole sheet of paper. A man's hand moved carefully, with purpose, as the paint brush held in its grasp brought him closer and closer to a completed painting. The man took a short inhale of breath through his nose and exhaled from his mouth. With one final stroke a smile formed on his face, his head tilting back to set his gaze on the sky. Admittedly, going on an expedition to discover and document animals wasn't his normal forte. However, when he had come across the expedition offering, with the added bonus of observing documenting the plant life in the environment, he had known it was an opportunity not to be passed up by him. After all, he spent a majority of his free time documenting nature in his journal anyway. It was actually because of this hobby that he found himself in his current situation. Having been taken with the sight of the jungle, Arashi had scaled a tree, where he now sat on a particularly thick limb, before beginning the process of painting beauty to paper. With that task now finished though he simply found himself relaxed, taking in the sight of the skies. As he sat there staring upwards his eyes widened as he realized what time it currently was. "I'm running behind!" His voice came out in choked realization as he scrambled to jump from the limb he rested on, barely catching himself in his rush as he hit the ground. "I told myself twenty minutes. Twenty minutes! How long have I even been up there!?" His feet carried him quickly across the terrain as he used his enhanced speed to reach the predetermined rendezvous point. Upon seeing a smaller figure appear off in the distance Arashi slowed his pace to a walk and straightened his disheveled cloak to preserve his typical image. As he drew closer he waved his hand through the air as a friendly smile formed over his lips.

Sheryl stepped back as the reporter appeared to regain his mental faculties, and just looked upon him sternly. "I am Sheryl Wainwright, Knight of the Order of Force Majeure" she responded to his questioning. "The emphasis placed upon this expedition is well known by those overseeing it. We are merely the first wave, and truth be told, matters have gone better then I expected." It was the truth to Sheryl. While there were veterans amongst their lot, the majority were untested. Yh'mi swallowed up whole parties before without trace, and even her predecessor, Master Knight Eredas, was tested amongst these lands, despite being able of taking down a Magnus in single combat. "We will speak later then. There is much to salvage". Sheryl then went to aid the others. Whilst they salvaged, she would focus on addressing wounds, bin the way of physical cleaning and binding if her more magical winds was refused.

Wrong Turn She spun on him, a small, pleasant smile twisting her face into something disconcerting and unnatural. Her knees stung, and she was pretty sure her pinkie had all but shattered. The twisted, bumpy shape all but confirmed it for her, and, she struggled to transform her desire to snarl and snap into something more diplomatic. It wouldn't do any good to lash out at the Lad. "He's not here, is he Alistair?" she choked out, carefully wiping her face with her elbow. There was something, had been something heavy here. Disappearing into the hedges, that she eyed with suspicion, they seemed banal enough. But, she daren't risk getting caught in a trap like the one Alistair had gotten caught in. Either way, she couldn't run through, or hack the vines away- that would result in a disqualification, Merida may yet be found in the maze. She tried to search for any clue, a lock of hair, or a strip of cloth or thread-- anything. That's when she caught sight of the first bloom. Brilliantly blue in the dirt, and emanating a scent so cloyingly sweet she feared her belly would revolt once more. Then more appeared. Five. Ten. Twenty. The scent clung to her, and she to the tree that she was bent over, paralyzed. Shallow breaths. She had to take shallow breaths, but so did Alistair, who had already been exposed to so much-- "Hold your goddamned breath, Lad." She snapped, backing away from the poisonous bloom. With a sickening crackle of branches and leaves, the hedges that hid the track marks the boxes had left, parted before them, maliciously inviting. They had to retrace their steps. But, Merida might be where this path lead, scared and alone. Stumbling around in the dark. There were voices that emanated from the path. Small and high-pitched, and something felt oddly wrong with the thought of going down the path. It warned her not to go, and revolted hideously, beyond the searing pain of her broken fingernails, pressed against the boys' shirt, clutching his sleeve, tugging. Urgent, she wanted to scream. He needed to get away from the fumes, he didn't have her immunity. And, even then, she felt her head getting foggy- the leaves of the hedges pressed down around them, almost squeezing down on them turning green and gold and blue and red and pink. Stupidly, Evienne wanted to giggle. There wasn't a terrible long path to the voices, the path so narrow she felt every prick, prod and petal around them. The voices got louder, and louder; so shrill that it seemed to pierce her skull, and all she could think off was to keep going. Eventually, they stumble upon another clearing. Her Head spun so hard- the sky spun, and, at first she missed the strange creatures and their strange tables. One, was blue and fuzzy- his cloying, sick perfume reaching them, from where they stood. Two curved horns sprouted from his head, and juxtaposed greatly from the other who was more human. If not for the sickly yellow hue of his skin, and the darkness of his eyes. They were huddled onto one corner of the table, a chipped and broken tea set spread laid out before them. Questionable stains peppered the entire area, a kaleidescope of rust, yellow and a nauseating cracked white. She clung to Alistair's shirt when they turned their gazes upon on her, fear striking her like lightning. "There's no room for you here," The two shrieked in unison. @Witches Brew

Music/Ambience Parean’s black coffee was already bitter, delightfully so, but suddenly it tasted acrid in his mouth and denied him another sip. He set the cup on the desk and sighed out his agreement with his new partner’s input. At least the guy had no hesitation in jumping right into things and, to stop whatever monster was behind these unforgivable killings, diving in was exactly what the two of them needed to do, side by side or otherwise. “Few and less.” Jerick shook his head in sympathy, as if he had been dreading the question without a satisfactory answer to follow it up with. “Forensics hasn’t managed to find a single fiber of hair or flake of skin at the crime scenes, never mind fingerprints or footprints. Whoever’s behind this shit, I hate to say it, but he’s good—at leaving no trace, if nothing else. Here.” The Captain shifted a dossier in front of each investigator. “Everything we have so far on the case is in those folders, same copies for both of you but, like I said, it ain’t much. You’ll find files on the victims, coroner’s reports, photos of the crime scenes, the works—hard copies as well as on disc. I can tell you up front that the connections between these kids are also few. One notable detail is that all five were positively ID’d as twelve years old. Homes in the Buffer, both parents or just one, while one boy’s an orphan. Three boys, two girls, but no pattern so far.” Jerick drummed his fingers and looked like he was struggling to recall any more immediate pieces of intel to share. “For all we know, if Gaia forbid there’s a sixth death tomorrow, it’s either going to be a boy or a girl. None of these kids appear to have known each other, their residences are spread all over town and are as everyday as your everyday nightclub. One of the boys, though, Addam Fayworth, he grew up in the New Family Orphanage right here in Downtown.” Parean was growing more and more self-aware of how seriously he was taking this Captain Landrews, in large part due to the latter’s remembering of the victims’ names without even needing to open a folder. Those names are stuck with him now. Yesterday, tonight, tomorrow—forever. “Now, as far as the crime scenes go, they’re also localized to the Buffer but are otherwise random as far as we can currently tell. Alleyways, railways, roadways—hell, the last body was found behind a GRAFT clinic.” Parean allowed himself a moment of reflection as he considered the information so far. He had half a mind to thumb through the dossier while he listened, but there was time for that later. How much time, I don’t know. Never enough. “By the sounds of it, Captain, there is indeed not a whole lot to go on. That being said, what shows that these deaths are actually murders, and connected enough to be their own pattern?” It was the million-money question. Jerick had been ready for it. “Simple. Every serial killer scumbag likes to leave a calling card. This one has two.” Just then, Jerick’s countenance positively collapsed into an expression that betrayed him for a man crying on the inside. “A broken lightbulb sticking out of each victim’s mouth, glass-up, with a note inside it, electronic writing: “The children of tomorrow must follow the new light.” Whatever that whackshit means.” With that, Jerick rose from his seat and moved over to the window. For fear of getting himself wet like any sane man would have, he didn't open it any further, the blinds still mostly parted, but he appeared to be watching through the slits at the black, bleak world drowning itself on the other side. The sound of the rain was as close as it was distant, a wet draft escaping inside. The children of tomorrow must follow the new light. Parean heard those words rattle inside his skull a thousand times over in a just a few seconds. Cryptic. No surprises there. “Well, unless I’ve missed something, and I just may have this late,” Jerick turned around to face his inspectors as he stood with a mug in one hand and a silver pen in the other. “That should cover the basics. After reviewing the case, well as they say it’s all in your hands at that point. Check the bodies, check the crime scenes, check the grapevines. You might want to check in with the parents and that orphanage, get your own feel for things, but I probably don’t need to overstate the delicate nature of the former.” He sipped his coffee and suddenly Parean reached for his own. “Any other questions? I’ll answer as best I can, but I can’t emphasize enough how in the dark we are on this one. That’s why Homicide, with their plate already piled high, is branching out to other experts. Not me, but you two.”

Right here, but it's not current. Also, as suggested by Csl, and started by an odd suggested Youtube Video of an older show of Candlepin Bowling, which led me to research candlepin bowling, which then lead to researching bowling in general, and learning that bowling, both target and pin, started taking of in medieval times. So, do any of the other noble houses have any history of any kind of bowling sports?
