Sorry that I haven't been online ever since last year. I was thinking of quitting but I decided to stay. I am going to try to change up my RP style and test them out. This time I hope to never leave Valucre again. I'm not going to jump back into any threads that I haven't posted on for a long time. I'm very sorry about that. I hope to get in some more RP soon! (Sorry it's so short I'm just excited to get back as soon as possible!)

Have you ever wanted to just roleplay a normal thing into a cool story? Here is your chance! In Blairville, crime is popping up over the streets. Come help get rid of these thugs with any means necessary! This could be an opportunity to test out any new characters you have, or you could just mess around with an old character. I will be using my new character Londeran Bilner. If you would like to join, just tell the character your using (it doesn't have to have a character sheet) and let's get this thing started!

    Hey.
I hope this attempt works out. I struggled for years to stay interested in Valucre even though I love writing here. It took a lot of changes in a lot of different areas for me to stick around here without disappearing for long periods of time.
Even then, I'm not always role playing. It's been a month or two since I was truly active and I still think about writing every day, I just don't do it every day, and that's fine. I'm getting back into it, and didn't really miss anything because I've stayed in OOC discussions and continued to remain active even with few to no posts.
So be patient with yourself. You'll figure out what works for you, I'm sure.
Let me know if I can help, or if you'd like to do a thread together.
    Welcome back,
    Happy writing

The tale is short and sweet but it has a lot of meaning. Acreanda was awaiting to hear everyone else's story. Acreanda had stopped playing cards and was now focusing on the conversation. He started to fiddle with his belt. He clicked a button, and a gadget popped up.
"I'm mainly a man of my word. I don't steal or lie. I was born into a city overrun by vampires. My parents were killed by them. Your average family death story." Acreanda said sadly. Why was he even telling them this. He did have his little quirks. TMI Acreanda, TMI, Acreanda told himself. Acreanda gave himself a facepalm.

Fredrick saw the guard get carried away and thought he did his job. More confident than ever Fredrick made his way to the queen. He saw the queen watching the guard getting taken away as well. "You must know of the wrongdoings he has done. Blown himself through a window," Fredrick whispered to the queen. Having nothing else to say he looked around for something to do. Then, he saw someone walk away from talking to the queen. The woman appeared to be, sniffing. This seemed rather strange to Fredrick, so he decided to check it out.
Fredrick followed the woman, deciding it was his job to see of she was doing anything suspicious. The woman stopped by the statue, holding something that looked like a metal ball. Now Fredrick had done his fare share of wrongdoings. He knew all about poisoning things. He had done it a few times for some extra change. He knew enough about poison to know that had some type of poison in it. It was rather odd though. Fredrick had never seen anything like it before. For all he knew it could have been more dangerous than normal poison. The woman then busted out saying she was going to add it to her marble collection. He then knew it definitely wasn't her planting them. Trying to be a helpful person, Fredrick scurried along after the woman to warn her about the ball. Finally catching up to her, he was out of breath. "Ball... Poison... Not... Marble," Fredrick managed to mumble. Hopefully she heard him.

Dan was mildly impressed with the short guy who looked a lot like a dwarf. His over the top nonsense was reminiscent of Apollo kids who tried too hard.
A library.... Wasn't that the place where they hand out books for free, but you have to take them back? Lame. But, that would be where to look for kids' stories.

Dan took another sip, forced down the disgust, unclenched his toes, and, not to be outdone, threw his legs over his head, pushed with his arms, vaulted over the table, flipped once in the air, and landed on his feet with the grace of a cat.
"I am Dan Palmer Nice to meet you."
Dan hoped that was as impressive as he thought it was.
"I am indeed looking for the missing kids. Well, I am now."

Questions everywhere, suddenly. Before she could answer any of them, the giddy man from before began to... run around? And his method of marking the map he had was certainly something odd. How many times could one damage a map before it fell apart? But he clearly knew at least a little more about the town than the rest of them did. It wouldn't do to be rude at the moment.
She cleared her throat after his display, deciding to respond to that and then to the questions she had been asked.
".... Acreanda? A.... pleasure to meet you. A library... I suppose you point that out to find the kids stories? Certainly a good place to start."
Clearing her throat again, she began with the other questions she'd been asked.
"I myself am also from out of town, and unfortunately don't know anything about those stories. As for whether or not I plan on doing something... I couldn't leave without trying to help, now could I? All these missing children.... it's serious business."
She paused, trying to think of whether she'd missed anything, and decided she hadn't. Her statement was fairly hypocritical though, wasn't it? She was sure she rarely actually stopped to help in towns like these unless children were in danger.
"I'm Minda, by the way. Minda Ainet. And all of you, besides Acreanda, are...?"

Daphne flinched as the once-silent character, sitting in his seat, leapt into action, jumping and dashing and shooting and...throwing knives? Quickly her attention was pulled from the girl she'd been approaching, towards the unnecessary display of finesse. Her hand gripped an unseen object, and in a moment's notice an eerie lantern materialized in her grasp. A singular socket in the lantern held a bloodshot, eerie-looking human eye, which darted about the room, trying to fixate on the moving targets. His spiel came to a stop too soon, however, and the witch relaxed. Her lantern returned, and while she was certain nobody saw it, her eye returned to its rightful place in her head once more. Daphne sighed in exasperation as the folk all introduced themselves, one after another, with their unexpected acrobat introducing himself first, then the girl she'd approached, and then...
Daphne pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration, praying that she didn't have a headache coming on from all this jumping about. The only unnamed character in the bar leapt from his table in a similar display of...something, she supposed, before announcing his name. Splendid.
Well, she'd gotten an answer to her questions, at least. There were more than a select few folks looking for the missing children, and she supposed she'd count herself as one of their ranks. She had half a mind to introduce herself, but cast that aside. Her name wasn't important, after all. She didn't expect them to remember her, and she actually wouldn't mind too much if she never had attention called to her. The SpiritCaster stepped forward, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. Her hooves clopped against the floorboards once gain, almost like a gavel calling for order.
"Well, it seems we all share a common purpose." She acknowledged with a calm, confident prose. She cast her glance towards character number one.
"Acreanda, right? While I appreciate you supplying us with a map, why would we start with a library of all places?" She asked with a pointed stare at the map. "Were this another matter, I might understand going to study, but surely there are other places in town we might want to start with?" Daphne herself wasn't too familiar with the town, so she couldn't be quite sure how the little backwoods Doughton worked. Maybe she was missing some key element.

Malia was nervous. And this is an understatement. Since the moment she'd been declared queen, there have been attempts on her life. She had to go into hiding, because she wasn't strong enough on her own to protect herself. Skacharm letting her come out into the open... he must think she was ready. She wasn't quite so sure. On top of that, she didn't know the proper etiquette of a queen. She had been raised simply, in a small village. She had never worn a dress so elegant. Nor been to an event so lavish. And it seemed it was all done for her. She was definitely out of her element.

But... she could pretend. She could put on a front with the best of them. Not giving herself away was one of the first lessons that Skacharm had taught her. So when she strolled into the room with the advisers, she had her figurative mask on. The older gentleman bowed before her, and she was tempted to curtsy before she caught herself. Instead she gave him a regal nod.

The other advisory was more verbal, and this shook her a little. It seemed he had things more in hand than she did, and she felt she had to keep up. She took a deep breath, her face blank. She listened to his suggestions, her mind working through the best course of action. She half expected Skacharm to cut in and make orders, like he had done while she was in hiding. Instead he stared at her. It was her turn to rule, and this was her first decision made solely by her. She let the breath out.

“I appreciate that you need to be among the crowd to let your talents be of the most use. But I believe that Frederick will need to be among the crowd as well to be effective.” She nodded to Frederick, showing that she respected his abilities. “As for communication, I believe my Ladies in Waiting would be great at relaying messages for me, and to me. I'm sure they won't mind.” She looked to Skacharm, and he nodded his approval. She felt her chest swell with pride. As far as she was concerned, no praise from anyone else could be higher.

Skacharm stepped forward. “I believe the queen would like you both to join her party, if you are so inclined. Please, enjoy the music and the wine. And if you see anything out of the ordinary, the Ladies in Waiting will be with the queen at the beginning of the celebration. Pay close attention, and wave one of them close if you need to relay a message.” More words were exchanged, some about the details of the party, some just pleasantries. Then the party left for the celebration.  @SixShots22 @Stumbler

Pearl came upon the guard chatting about her boredom. She was about to inquire why the archer wasn't positioned on high with the other archers, when she realized that having one close inside was a good move. One made by Skacharm, more than likely. So she said nothing, and moved on. Some of the guards were alert and ready. Some were snickering at the ladies, and she quickly put them in their place.

She then saw a guard place a live bomb at the base of the stairs. Her face went pale, then red. She marched over to him. “Guard! What are you doing? You better have a good explanation for placing dangerous live weapons where any innocent bystander can chance upon. You are to guard the queen, not blow up the stairs of the castle ballroom. If there is danger, you will fight without the aid of such things. Your judgment in this situation needs to be wise. If you can't use good judgment, I can't trust you. If I can't trust you, I have no use for you.” She waited to see what he had to say. And if he didn't know who she was, she planned to let him know real quick.  @Redhood

Shanna walked around the city square. The happy faces did not effect her. She did not feel compelled to change her mind about killing the queen based on their love of their ruler. A job was a job. But she didn't plan to do the job today. There were too many guards. And knowing Skacharm, there was something up his sleeve for anyone trying to assassinate the queen. Shanna was smarter than that. She had never met the queen, but she felt that she knew her. She'd done her research. She'd traveled to the girl's village and talked to her foster parents. She knew the girl's favorite food, and color. Her likes and dislikes. Her fears. And her loves. Since she'd left her foster parents Malia could have changed though. She'd had two years with Skacharm. He would have taught her a trick or two, being the spy he was. Shanna didn't discount this, when she made her plans to kill her. And even though she wasn't going to do anything today, she couldn't resist coming to see her. Couldn't resist being this close to her adversary. She made her way to a vendor, and bought a sweet bun. Sitting on a nearby stone bench, she waited to see what show they were going to put on for the people. And she would try to resist the temptation to take what looked like an easy opportunity to reach her goal of two years. Now was not the time. She would watch. She would wait. She would find the perfect moment. Soon.

Erin shrugged to herself as Orion rather abruptly excused himself for whatever reason, leaving her alone at the window once more. Deciding there was nothing more to see outside at the moment, she resumed her patrol around the balcony, noting that there was some sort of confrontation taking place below between one of the guards and a pair of well-dressed individuals. But that was not all, as guests were now flowing into the room very quickly, some hitting the liquor almost immediately. Erin scoffed at that, having very rarely allowed herself alcoholic drinks in the past, the only exceptions being very special occasions or when the local water supply was just too putrid.
As she turned another corner, she continued examining the people in the room below. From the balcony, she'd have a much clearer shot at any trouble makers than she would on the ground floor, although she had to make sure to exercise caution in that regard. It wouldn't look good for her to accidentally assassinate the ambassador of some powerful foreign nation because she thought he was reaching for a knife when all he was recovering was a handkerchief. Not that she actually had a problem with sparking a war, but being imprisoned or hung for it would kind take the fun out of it.
Her attention eventually came upon a young noblewoman who had taken a two-seat table alone in one of the corners. That seemed a bit suspicious, but then again, sitting alone and snacking was something Erin would do if she had to be down on the party floor. She'd keep an eye on that one just in case. Still, it was more likely that a skilled assassin would not just sit down idly in the corner of a room, but would rather fully engage in the party to alleviate suspicion. That certainly didn't make things easier, since the diverse cast of nobles and aristocrats all looked equally uncomfortable and stuffy in their suits and dresses.
"Are they still going at it?" Erin muttered under her breath, turning her attention back to the guard who was arguing with a man and a lady near the stairs, "At least something entertaining is going on..."

Pearl saw red for a moment when the guard with the 'emp' gave her attitude.  This was what happened when you had to work with soldiers who you've never worked with before.  This guy didn't know who she was, or her importance.  He couldn't, or he would have followed orders.  She wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt before she jumped to any conclusions... like the fact that he could be a rogue guard that had lost his purpose for being here.
Unexpectedly, a civilian walked up and began questioning the guard.  The guard gave him attitude as well, and began to walk off.  Pearl waited until he was away from the civilian, then approached him again.
"I see you have walked away from your bomb with the device that will disarm it.  Do you think that is wise?"  She didn't wait for him to respond.  "It doesn't matter.  I'm the head guard, which means what I have to say should matter to you, whether you want it to or not.  And right now, I think the queen, and especially her people, will be best served if you do your guard duty outside of the ball.  The queen will be making an appearance there, and we need to make sure there is no danger.  This will be purely recon, which means you need to keep your bombs to yourself."  She raised an eyebrow at him.  "If you see or hear anything suspicious, you need to contact me immediately."  She looked over to the bottom of the stairs.  "Oh, and don't forget to disarm your device.  I think we have it covered here without it, thanks."  She didn't turn her back on him and leave, but stood there with her hands on her hips.  Waiting.  @Redhood

Malia walked into the ballroom on the arm of Skacharm, followed by her Ladies in Waiting.  The one with the purple eyes had been kind enough to remind her that there was a room full of important people out there waiting to see her.  She talked of merriment and joy, and Malia wished that was the kind of birthday she was having.  Instead she felt like an animal in the woods, being hunted for sport.  Everywhere there was danger.  She felt her nerves stretched thin, even though she trusted that Skacharm had done everything possible to make sure she was safe.  He could only do so much, then it was up to her to take care of herself.
They walked slowly around the room, and Malia nodded and smiled at those that made eye contact.  She could see that some of the guests' apparel outshone her own, making her feel a bit under dressed.  She was always worried about looking and acting like a queen, because she was never sure if she was doing it correctly.  There were other royalty there, and she realized there was something else to feel nervous about other than her life being in danger.  She needed to worry about the stability of her kingdom.  She recalled all the lessons on political matters that Skacharm drilled into her head.  They felt jumbled and unreachable at the moment.  Skacharm must have been able to tell that her body had tensed, because he patted her hand.  She took a deep breath and decided she'd worry about what was said and done after the party was over.
The music was classy and soft, unlike the loud boisterous tunes she used to hear in her village.  The food table was laden with all kinds of tempting foods.  She went over to get a nibble, mainly to have something to do to calm her nerves.  Skacharm stopped her before she took a bite, and waved over a servant from nearby.  The servant tasted from the same dish as Malia, and she realized it was tasted for poison.  She was handed back her plate, and her smile was wan as the point of calming her nerves flew out the window.

Lorial watched with hooded eyes everyone who approached close to the queen.  They all seemed to gather around, like vultures waiting to pick the bones of the dead thing.  Well, the young queen was far from dying.  And she wouldn't be, if Lorial had anything to do with it.  She kept scanning the crowd and unobtrusively sniffing the air.  If someone was sweating buckets of fear, or putrid hate, Lorial would smell it.  She kept her ears open too, for bits of conversation that might be dangerous.  Tonight was going to be a long night.

Benjamin ran with Dan when the clergymen knew of their location. Benjamin ran down the hallway as fast as he could. He slowed down as he saw the army of clergymen in front of him. He pulled out his bow, and pulled out a special arrow. The bomb arrow. He shot it at one, BOOM! Another, BOOM! He shot down almost everyone there. Then he witnessed Dan pummel through that one man. Stab after stab, he tore the man apart.
There were a few men left but Benjamin knew they were going to win it. Then, the dagger he stole started to glow. It was getting redder and redder. Benjamin had his eyes wide open at this amazing sight. A red structure began materializing out of thin air. From the feet to the head, it grew and grew. It was a demon. It had wings, horns, and red eyes. Benjamin gazing up at the magnificent beast. Then Benjamin put down the knife, and the creature disintegrated. Benjamin then had an idea. He pulled out a regular arrow and started chipping away at the knife. He kept cutting until he ended out with about twenty different pieces of the knife. He pulled out nineteen more regular arrows, and pulled their tips off. He then put the pieces of the knife on the end of the arrow. He stuck the new demon arrows in his backpack. "I'll save these for later" He thought. He pretty much now had the ultimate arrows.
Benjamin looked at the remaining few clergymen. "We need to take these last few guys out and bolt," Benjamin said. He ran over to Dan to see what was up.

Dan grinned. "Thanks man." Dan wrapped the wire Benjamin gave him around both ends of the wire attached to the mask. This would allow him to take the mask off the wall without breaking the circuit. He gently disconnected the mask from the wires. No alarm, no safety mechanisms, no attack dogs, nothing.
Dan walked over to a bed, and took a framed picture from a nightstand. He didn't bother looking at the picture. This is what he would give to the witch. Not monetarily valuable, but a personal item.
"Might as well do this with style." Dan rooted in a side pocket on his backpack and pulled out something roughly the size of his hand.

It was made of poster board, and had a leg on the back of it, allowing it to stand upright. Dan's calling card, and the symbol of his father: the Caduceus. He always put that somewhere in every robbery he made. He also used it when he assassinated high profile monsters, but that was just to instill fear among them.
"Alright. if we got what we want, lets go."
Dan stepped back over the tripwire, and started down the bridge. When he got halfway across, however, someone turned the corner and both of them froze.
    "....What are you doing?"
Dan's mind raced. "Im uh... out for a walk."
    "To the Archbishop's house?"
".....Yeah. Its part of my routine. I walk the length of the abbey. Clears my head."
The clergyman didn't seem overly convinced. But it was then that he heard the door being closed and saw Jasper coming down with a jacket on that only one person in the abbey possessed.
The clergyman touched his badge. "Intruders in the Cloister Passage. Repeat, In-" Dan's fist collided with the man's head, abruptly shutting him up.
Dan cursed in Greek. He KNEW this was going way too well. He turned his head back to the others. "Guys, we got a problem. To blazes with stealth. We run like HELL!"
Dan took off running, but as he got off the Cloister Passage, he remembered that it was nearly time for dinner before they entered the bishop's personal quarters. He remembered this just in time for an unpleasantly large amount of armed and angry clergymen to enter his sight line, most likely responding to the signal while eating dinner in the Frater House.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK! Dan drew his weapons. Everything just got a lot more complicated.
But, on the bright side, take out all this, there won't really be anyone left to get in the way.
Dan took solace in that as he deflected a curved sword and broke the nose of the first attacker. He silenced the man by hitting both sides of his head with the pommel of the weapon in each hand.
Another came to stab him with a dagger. Dan moved and caught the man's hand between his left arm and left side, and brought his right hand, sword hilt inside, to meet his forehead at high speed. Down he went. By this time, Dan was being surrounded. He ducked under two people stabbing at him with shortswords, and thrust out with both weapons, impaling both men in their genitals. They too went down. Not unconscious, but they weren't getting back up.
Dan kept an eye on the shadows, and by doing so, got out of the way of a mace strike. He barely took time to register that the business end of the mace was approximately 1/8th of an inch from his toes. Dan stabbed the man in the arm he used, and delivered a high speed heel kick to the man's diaphragm.
However, upon doing this, Dan heard a loud crack resound through the air, followed immediately by an intense white hot pain across his back. Dan felt blood seeping out from a wound. He had been hit with a whip.
Dan froze for a second, his mind entirely elsewhere.

Dan found himself back there. Back in that horrible place. The walls and floor were black, the floors stained red in spots. Torches were lit around the room. Highly unpleasant devices were strewn about the place.
Dan was shirtless, his hands tied tightly above his head. His feet were shackled directly to the floor. His back was already throbbing with horrible pain, blood pooling around his feet.
Then he heard the crack again, and his back erupted in agonizing pain all over again. His arms strained, instinctively trying to pull themselves down.
It happened again. And again. And again. Then a booming male voice echoed behind him.
"THIS-" *crack* "-IS WHAT HAPPENS-" *crack* "- WHEN YOU DONT-" *crack* "-KILL-" *crack* "-YOUR-" *crack* "-OPPONENT!!"
The whip came down again and again and again. Dan had long since abandoned all sense of pride, and was screaming.
"ARE YOU GONNA KILL HIM TOMORROW?!" *crack*
    "YES!!!"
"ARE YOU GONNA MAKE IT BLOODY?!" *crack*
    "YES!!!!!"
"ARE YOU GONNA MAKE IT PAINFUL?!" *crack*
    "YES!!!!!!"
"ARE YOU GONNA MAKE IT ENTERTAINING?!" *crack*
    "YES!!! FUCK SAKE, YES!!!!!"
"GOOD!" Dan could almost sense the grin the stupid, one-eyed beast had.
    "Rest up for tomorrow then."
He brought the whip down one more time, just for fun, before putting it back up on the wall. Not bothering to untie Dan, he just walked out the door and shut it.
Dan just stood there, quietly crying from the pain. And he decided, if EVER he got the chance, that motherfucker's head would roll. OH yes, it would be bloody. It would be painful. And it would DEFINITELY be entertaining.

Dan turned around, and saw a clergyman holding a leather whip. He was behind several other clergymen, and He was bringing it up for another strike.
Dan developed tunnel vision and took off running, moving so quickly that, unless you had heightened vision, it would be very difficult to see individual parts moving.
Dan made a beeline for the whip wielder, cutting down anything that was between them. About the time the man was about to bring the whip back down, both of Dan's weapons impaled him through the chest. Dan's speed lifted the man off the ground before he brought him back down against the floor. Once there, Dan took his dagger out of the mans body and stabbed him through the head. Then he brought it out, and did it again in a different spot. Then he did it again. And again. And again. And again. Over and over again, breathing rapidly, and looking for all to see like something gone rabid.
Dan was thinking of nothing else, forgetting entirely that there was anyone else even there.
Thankfully, the ones that weren't busy with Jasper and Benjamin were either on the ground due to injuries/body parts missing, or in a terrified shock at the brutality that someone, barely a teenager, was doing.
After about the 22nd stab, Dan began to regain his composure. The more he regained his senses, the more confused he became. This wasn't the Coliseum.
Then everything came back to him all at once as the others began to get over the shock and come toward him.
Dan thought he must have looked like a terrified, cornered animal. His entire body was shaking, and he was sweating profusely.
Dan dodged the attacks of a battleaxe, a longsword, and a rapier, stunning one with a punch to the throat, kicked the other in the chest, and tackled the last one, putting him down with a sword pommel to the forehead.
This was terrible. Everything was falling apart. His mind was racing so fast, he couldn't think straight. Couldn't think of a plan.
Stop them. Take the people down. Get out. Teammates. Help teammates. Never leave teammates behind. Hammer sword waraxe dagger mace flail sword dagger axe hatchet.
