Hey. Sorry to add a little topic to the water cooler.

I’ve been super lonely lately. I wanna jump into threads on Val, but don’t really have the drive. I have that super ambitious project I planned, but Psyched myself out on.

Long story short, I’m craving a long term rp or at least a long term partner. Things are kinda rough? Not exactly that. Got a great big void in my heart for interactive stories and people I like. Haven’t been doing much on here.

So if you’ve time to kill and can be on regularly or at least tell me something is going on, how about we work something out?

Not the biggest combat person. I like character interaction. Long term stories

and I’d like to do a big list here, but generally I’m down for most anything that isn’t gory or violent. Sit com style. Romance style.

      Most genera are open.

The general rule of thumbs, 1 paragraph,  I’d  like to give more but I’m running low on steam I wanna collapse in on myself at this point. And just good or exciting stories. Sorry if I’m a bad partner. I try my best but my story telling needs lots of work

    what else?
Craving some dragons, ghosts, gods, angels , demons, just about anything exciting or out of the usual. But I’m not picky.

Sorry this is a mess. Thanks for the time I’ve you’ve read this.

Either Pm and let it be know or comment or like the post and I’ll on you, if you’re a shy bee. Good night good luck happy life safe travels Etc. Imma collapse

Torie’s ears swivelled left and right. Was the water getting louder, or Priscilla’s voice getting quieter?

“What can you see?” she said, sniffing around the walls, pushing on natural knobs and cracks for signs of a secret passage. Nothing.

The salamanders on the other side of the portal were shouting, but she could only just hear them above the roar of the steam. Water poured through the portal, into the land of fire. It was up to her elbows now, which meant it was almost three feet deep.

“I can’t see how to get to you,” she said, “But keep talking, loudly. She looked up, at the cavern’s roof, but couldn’t see past the slab of grey-red stone.

Torie's voice was clear and distinct, even in the dark although it was likely because she was shouting. Priscilla jammed her pinkie in one ear and twisted it back and forth, gritting her teeth as she attempted to rub the grating on her eardrums.
"I'm fine, I think!" She called back, glancing down at the body she couldn't see. "I think I lost..." She glanced around in the dark, and groaned in frustration. "I lost my knife, I think. I can't see it here, anywhere."
Her voice still bounced down the walls. There was no kind of light to speak of. She may as well have been dead. However, Torie seemed to be okay. That counted for something, right?
She remembered that her friend was injured before they fell down.
"Are you okay? What about the kobolds? Are they...." She paused, and  stopped speaking. They were thrown all over the place when the wave came crashing through. They were hurt before. It was best not to ask.
"What about Aaric? Have you seen 'em?" She tossed a stone forward. It clacked against the stones again, bouncing down the cave. She shuffled forward.
"I think I'll be able to reach you if I keep going this way," She called, hopefully. "Just stay put, and I'll find my way towards you. Stay safe!" She added, under her breath. "...and don't leave me here alone, please."

Happy to hear you and the missus are happily caught up with the younguns @Vetanoob We've written you a nice escape for now, so you should be able to rejoin when you're comfortable, without worrying too much about keeping us waiting.
@Venus Sprite let me know if you can work with what I have written. If not, I can elaborate, and have Priscilla do more than talk in the dark. Maybe I'll have her move around or something.

Yeah here in Singapore there are a lot of infant care and child care centres. Its a norm for both parents to be working so there isn't any time to take care of the babies full-time at home. Some parents manage to get a maid/helper or even get the grandparents to come and help take care of them. But not all grandparents are willing or able to. 😞 Thus, it has created a market for these centres to provide care to infants and toddlers during the day while the parents work.
Depends on the centre. The one that my wife and I have enrolled the twins in operate from 7am to 7pm on weekdays. But its possible to enrol them for only half a day each day instead.
Nope they don't. Yes it costs us money but the government provides subsidies to offset the costs.
Well its more of both of us really. I took both paid and unpaid leave to help with taking care of the twins. We had some difficulties at first and took us awhile to get into a predictable schedule that we could work with the babies. But now its more or less settled and we are just taking it day by day as it goes along.
Okay, I already managed to catch up with what's going on. I'll still need more time before I can jump back in. But when I am able to, I'll definitely let you guys know first thing!

Beats me. Mysteries of life I guess. 😛

    Told you so 😉
So glad you're getting some relief! Infant care centres! I don't think they have things like that here. My older siblings all have kids and they're always complaining, lol. And I only need to babysit my nieces and nephews for a few hours to see why! Still, thank you for keeping the human race going. Someone's got to!
So what's the deal with infant care? How long do they have them at a time? How many days a week? Do they keep them overnight? Does it cost you money or is it government subsidised? I might have to move to Singapore when I eventually have kids 🙂 . It sounds and looks like a modern-day Atlantis!
How is your wife enjoying parenthood? Is she one of those lucky ones who actually enjoys every minute of it?
We're surviving without you. You managed to blow up the dynamite but we don't know if Aaric survived or not! We both just got bowled over by a torrent of water and washed into deeper parts of the cave. But it doesn't matter when you jump back in. We can just claim you were lost in the flood, and if you happen to pop up again alive and (mostly) unscathed then feel free to join us for the next step in the adventure.
Incidentally, how is it you only need to put one thing into a baby but five horrible things come out (wee, poo, vomit, snot and noise)?

Looking up at the half dragon, kanno stared back with a bit of a smirk trying to hide his agitation with the smartass lizard. After a brief bit of gritting his teeth and a deep bow he responded to Ketania.
"Yes I am a bit talkative I mean most bards are to some extent, but I guess talking to a brick wall is a bit pointless now isn't it? No matter, I will join you and maybe you will warm up a little to this talkative saxophonist."
Kanno pats his saxophone case then turns to the short young lady who had just aproached. When the half dragon inquired about what 'magical power' she had her response was what seemed like a simple magic trick. Seems like everyone in this party is gonna be a smartass of some degree so much so that he couldn't help but have doubts about how likely he would be to survive this quest.
Despite his doubts he clicked his tongue subtly and asked the small town girl,
Quite the impressive power. What are you gonna do with the money? You must be in quite the pinch if you are willing to go to such lengths for some currency. I mean I have no objections, the more bodies the better our chances, but I was just curious."
Kanno kinda chuckles at his joke about her 'power'.
"I would love to show you my set of skills I bring to the table, but I think if we're gonna do this we shouldn't waste time. Who knows how much more damage that wyvern could be doing right now."
The saxophone player picks up his case which has quite a bit of heft to it and gestures to the door.
    "I'll be outside"

    Hey guys!
A million apologies for not updating about my status on this story. 😞
taking care of my twins has been harrowing and tiresome. I barely find enough time to get online and check things out here on Valucre.
However, hope remains! My twins will be going to an infant care centre from 16th Jan onwards so hopefully I can find the time to post on Aaric's progress in this story.
I hope I'm not impeding the story's progress too much because of my absence.

An earth-shattering explosion rocked the cave. Priscilla stumbled, the blast of air buffeting her onto her heels. She gripped her knife tightly, gritting her teeth as she fought to keep her balance. Torie was on her feet, but nearly bowled over again after the blast, and the runesmith wondered only briefly what the hell happened.
She wasn't looking at them when it happened, but when she glanced towards the Kobolds, she realized they'd been hit. Thrown askance, tossed asunder, broken. She didn't see where they landed; didn't see if they were okay. That's because shortly afterward, she saw the water coming, and her heart stopped cold.
The sudden surge of water was visible from several meters away, and she had time, eventually, to spin and attempt to flee; but the water had already blocked her way out of the cave, and there was no where else to go. Out of impulse, she looked around, and grabbed the nearest support. She wrapped her hands around the buttress, knife still clutched in her hands. She glanced back towards Torie, who scrambled towards her, trying to reach the pole as well. Priscilla reached for her with one hand, but the water struck them both then. Priscilla managed to keep her grip on the pole at first, managing to overcome the shock of the cold water blasting her down. This wasn't a mere deluge, however--metric tonnes of water overtook them all, threatening to pull them down deeper into the cave. Eventually, her fingers grew numb, and she too was pulled free from her safe place.
Immediately after letting go, Priscilla was plunged beneath the water. Although there was much to push them by, it wasn't deep, and more than once she struck her elbow, and then her hip, on the walls and ground as she struggled to remain above water. It took her some doing, but she managed to pull herself to the surface of the roaring water, gasping for breath, only to be pushed below again.
Then, freefall. For a few moments.
Shortly afterward, she crashed onto the loose gravel floor, knocking the air out of her. She swore she felt a rib crack.
"Fuck me," She wheezed, before falling into a coughing fit. The water surrounding her continued to crash for a while thereafter. Eventually, she got to her feet--slipped once--and moved away from the rolling waters.
She blinked; her vision was blurry, with runes dashing around in her vision again, making it even harder to see. Assuming she could see afterward, which she couldn't.
Wherever she was, there was no sunlight, or any visible light close by. Beyond the sound of water, and the crunching of gravel underfoot, she couldn't see anything of note, at all.
    She was cold.
    Was Torie okay?
Aaric? Did he escape the blast?
"Torie! Aaric!" She shouted, glancing around. Her jacket was soaked through and through, but there was no wind to chill her. She took it off anyway, but it didn't do much for her; her clothes were all soggy. She glanced around, looking for any sign of the tigress, or the little ninja boy.
    Or the kobolds!
"Torie! Shank!" Where were they? Her voice bounced off the walls, and reverberated down halls she couldn't see.
She frowned. She could hear, at least. She started walking, uncertainly, towards where her echoes had traveled. Her feet shuffled against the gravel, and she paused, and frowned. Then, she ducked down and grabbed a few pebbles. She chucked one in front of her.
    It clacked against the gravel.
Great. She proceeded forward, then paused to throw another pebble. Again and again, hoping to avoid falling to her death.
"Torie? Aaric!" She cried again. "I can't see in the dark, you guys!"

    cue evil music
As the morning light crept over treetops the peaceful silence of the cave, barring the scratching of a quill on parchment, was interrupted by the rhythmic clanking of metal. The shadow of the soldier was visible before they appeared at the mouth of the cave, their silhouette blocking the warm morning glow as they pushed aside the shrubbery that partially concealed the entrance. With a final metallic clank, the solider stepped out of the sunlight, hastily standing to attention with a salute.
"Sorry for being late, Sir." she spoke, her voice muffled slightly by the metal face guard of her helmet.
The quill ceased scrawling as the elderly human gentleman who held it slowly raised his gaze from his small desk, improvised from several wooden crates, to meet the eyes of the soldier.
"What part of return before sunrise did you fail to understand?" He calmly replied, seeming taking great pleasure in holding each syllable on his tongue for several moments.
"A-again, I apologise Sir." The soldier said, a shiver rattling her armour slightly as it traveled down her spine. "I couldn't keep up my speed, I don't have the, erm, stamina that I used to."
The old man chuckled, tracing his fingers over his sharp jawbone, where a beard may have once been but had been lost to reveal pale skin that clung tightly over his facial features.
"You will get used to your new limits, and will find that they quickly exceed what you used to be capable of." spoke the man, his voice sliding into a whisper as he leaned forward in his seat, a glint of excitement in his eyes before quickly returning to his original posture and speech. "Even if you feel weak now, at least you don't need to worry about running out of breath."
He began to chuckle again at this last remark. The soldier, uncomfortably and halfheartedly, joining in before it was ended by a bout of coughing.

"Forgive me." he said after clearing his throat. "I couldn't help myself, now, do you have anything useful tell me from your overnight visit?"
"Yes Sir. I spotted several posters around town offering a reward for the wyvern's head. The most popular was the poster in the tavern, although it was mostly drunkards claiming they could defeat it with their bare hands at that hour."
"Now that is good news." he said, leaning back into his wooden chair with a sigh. "I was getting worried that the wyvern was doing too much damage and the townsfolk had either starved or fled. Anything else?"
    "No Sir, that is all."
"Then you are dismissed until this evening. I might sent you out on more regular patrols to keep me up to date on who might've taken up this bounty, so rest and regain your strength."
With a final salute, the soldier marched into the musky darkness of the cave's rear seated herself on an old bearskin, and without removing any of her armour, became motionless in a matter of seconds.
The old man, seemingly content with what he saw, turned back to his desk and began muttering to himself as he wrote. "Strong, very strong she is... she will go far with what I have given her."
He remained focused on his work, pausing only for a moment as a shrill, reptilian shriek was carried into the cave by morning air, echoing for a few seconds among the craggy walls.

    OOC Thread

The light of the morning was burning bright, but the shine of dusk was always comforting. Perhaps because the night brought a stillness with it, one that Ketania enjoyed. Or, perhaps, it was simply because the best bar fights always broke out once everyone was good and drunk. Not that she ever got involved. The free entertainment was more than enough for her as she browsed the board at the far end of the inn, the one she'd found just south of the city of Joran, situated in a little village she was passing through. One poster caught her eye; a rather elegantly written one for a small village, with maybe less than ten who could read, let alone write. Ripping it down from the board, she mused over the writing, meandering back to her table in the far corner as she lifted her mug of ale to take a sip. It certainly explained why the market had been barren when she arrived in the village.
WYVERN: reward to those who slay the creature plaguing this village from the West.
A wyvern. When had they ever chosen to stray that far from the Shienvar Mountains? She knew how they thought. This wasn't their territory, was it? The simple answer was no. So why was there a wyvern making an effort to come this far away from where it likely lived, just to interrupt trade along a well-used road to bigger cities? Something was amiss. Her tail flicked under her cloak. Maybe she was putting too much thought into this-she wasn't much of a thinker usually-but it just didn't feel quite right. She had to make her choice, then. Pinning the poster back up on the board, she stared at it a moment longer, muttering to herself over her decision. Go after a creature that was practically half her species, or leave it just to being the natural order? Ketania shook her head, placing her empty mug down on the table next to her. Trade couldn't be ground to a halt just to spare the life of a creature vaguely similar to her. She needed those supplies brought by trade herself. If it was plaguing the village outside of its territory, then something had to be done.
She couldn't see anyone else willing to.

Jinko Kanno was at the bar with his face smashed against his notebook, asleep by the time that the half dragon had entered. They had been suffering from artist's block for what seemed like a decade, as such their notebook was riddled in scratched out lyrics, music notes, and chord progressions. The inspiration just wasn't there so they drank their sorrows away while drunkenly trying to make a song in vain. When the musician awoke, they saw an interesting character brooding over a poster on the wall.
Jinko being the nosey bastard he was, snuck over and decided to see what this character was looking at. Upon closer inspection it was a wanted poster for the supposed wyvern that was terrorizing merchants on their trade routes, a job that even the most careless fools wouldn't touch with a ten foot staff. However this individual seemed to be genuinely thinking about takimg this job on, the musician smelled an adventure, maybe if he survived he would finally have the inspiration to make a song to make his name known in this town. The feat itself would make for some free advertising at the least.
And so the troubled artist decided to prod the mind of this person instead of just making guesses, "oi, you're not actually thinking of doing that job are you? Do you even have a party with to take this on, or was your plan to hire some mercenaries to fight alongside you? Well I  guarantee you won't find many around here willing to come with you. Me however, I was looking for a bit of an adventure, so if you're planning to hunt down that wyvern count me in." As the last three words came out of his mouth, he couldn't help but think that he was going mad. He had never even gone far from his house let alone out on a journey to kill a wyvern.

    Morning.

That only ever meant one thing to Him — food. Odd as it was, he preferred to harvest his own in fields and wherever else he might happen along.

Grasses, tall or small, were reaped with a one handed sickle, cut from the lowest point possible and stuffed into a cloth satchel. The behemoth knelt for this and quietly thanked the earth. Ballard Bay afforded a fine degree of lush vegetation  to the foot hills  leading into the Shienvar  mountains.

All was good and well until a reptilian shriek drew him from his idle thought. It was nowhere immediately close, but it caused him to reminisce on his parting through Joran. Honeyed Gold eyes stared at the peaks that decorated the upper elevations due south; his mind was on the sound and the poster he had seen moving through the settlement regarding a...

”Wyvern; too shrill for a dragon. A bit close, too..” He’d mutter to himself.

Dark chestnut fur caught the wind and billowed against the exposed and fairly scarred physique of the bovine. Fur fringed and hung from all over, though he was relatively groomed. He stood right around twenty two and a half hands high. Any hair long enough was tied back, and there was plenty.

Armor and equipment sat aside with a series of weapons tailored to his every day life and his own benefit. The freshly laundered gear was pulled back on over the washed and air dried fur he bore. The decision to look into the wyvern situation befell him; curiosity nagging at him like a horse fly.

“Can’t hurt.” Radiant eyes looked to his belongings as he equipped himself in cloth and plate. Various hides were used to hide and insulate his massive form, offering layering as well as protection. Strong hands tidied a chain bound to a hook meant for holding animals and machines of grand proportion. Afterward, the sickle he had been using to harvest with was slipped into his layers. His personal weapon of choice was swaddled like an infant and sling over his back. He was intent on keeping such a thing in pristine conditions.

Armor-clad hooves dug into the earth as he stepped his way up the hill of the embankment, a hand shoveling segments of cut grass and vegetation into his maw — one must never forget to eat, lest they find themselves weak and useless in the face of destiny or danger, whichever came first.

Another shriek caught his ears as the sun rose over the peaks, instigating the male to press on and find just what was happening. He moved with a conservative stride, preferring to keep it in a low gear until he had to climb, hunt, or kill something.

Torie gritted her teeth and growled at the salamanders swarming out of the cave, climbing over the lip of the slope. The kobolds had given up the edge; now they had lost the high ground.
“Yeah,” Torie said, a little disappointed but recognising the wisdom of retreat. “Maybe we should retreat, for now, though it pains me to-“
There was a boom, so loud it made her skull rattle, and a blast of air hit them so fast it nearly bowled her over. The poor kobolds fared worse. One of them was thrown bodily down the slope, out of sight. Rocks clattered down from the roof’s ceiling.
There was a screaming in her head like an injured seal pup, so high and so loud she didn’t hear the rushing water until it was flowing about her feet. Then her wrists, then her elbows and knees. She tried to turn, to check on Priscilla, but the flow of muddy water pushed into her flank and she was bowled over sideways, down over the slope from which the kobolds had come.
Tumbling, tumbling, unable to gain purchase on the rocks which knocked into her ribs and joints. She scrambled at them but they just tore her claws, causing more pain, until she decided it was better just to let the water carry her where it will.
Go with the flow. Roll with it. She was doing both.
When she finally stopped tumbling she was in a large room, more of a cellar than a cave, the stone walls being carved and shaped to create a more inviting space. There were lights overhead – lanterns, still swinging with the shock of the explosion. Water was still gushing around her but no longer deep enough to carry her along. It still pushed at wooden tables and lapped at the base of book cases, or pushed wooden chests aside. Glassware fell and clinked and crackled, and salamanders hissed.
Dominating the room was a man-sized loop of sharp, mithril steel, intertwined like thorny vines, sliding through one another as if alive. Inside the loop was a scene of hell: a land of fire and smoke, stretching into the distance over burning ruins and into towering volcanoes.
“The portal,” she said, to nobody in particular.
Aching all over, Torie nevertheless forced herself to her feet, water still lapping about her low-slung stomach. It felt strange. Beside her a salamander writhed and slithered towards the tables, steam rising off its scales and erupting out of where the water had hit its open wounds.
“Oh no you don’t,” Torie said, grabbing it by the tail as she had the others and pulling it back towards herself before biting down into the back of its neck. Delicious. She turned and looked this way and that, but there were no signs of the others. Perhaps they had been washed into another cavern. Behind her, the water still gushed through a narrow arch, perhaps over a flight of stairs. With so much water it was hard to tell. On the other side of the cellar-cave it gurgled and groaned as it swirled down a hole in the floor. Perhaps another passage, leading deeper.
“Priscilla? Aaric?” she said, her voice ringing deep and true even over the rush of the water, which didn’t look to be letting up soon. Behind her one of the book cases fell over with a wet splosh, scattering scrolls and documents into the torrent, soon to be swallowed by the gaping hole into which the water swirled.
“Shank? Kissit? Come on, everyone. This is no fun on my own.” She tried to keep the tone of nervousness out of her voice.
Torie heard more hissing, and looked up at the portal. It was hard to make out through the rippling heat, but she thought she could see many pairs of eyes looking back at her. The ring of twisting, turning metal that sustained the portal floated above the ground, so no water had flowed through yet, but the salamanders on the other side didn’t look happy.
    Then she had an idea.
Torie bound over the water like a bear after fish, towards the fallen book shelf, and pushed it on its back over the opening on the floor. Too big to pass through, it was sucked down onto the hole, blocking off the water’s escape channel. Slowly the room began to fill, towards the lip of the portal.
“It looks a little dry in there,” Torie said to the waiting salamanders, and gave them a toothy grin.

It's ok. Parenthood is really hard, especially with twins! Are your parents or in laws able to help out? God bless you in this journey and I hope you have time to play soon!
  25. Like

    Yeah, these things happen.
Ideally, we shouldn't have to skip you much, and the situation allows for Torie and Priscilla to carry the story for a bit, so you have some time. Just message us if your delay is extended.
