I will be updating this page with information that you, the players, have created as well. However, given that I am prone to being called away at odd times, I would ask that if you've created something that belongs in the canon please PM me. If I haven't put it up, it's a good chance I've overlooked it...and we don't want that! We want your information, we want your brains--ideas.

"A nation comprising the lands around the city of Cosanastre, governing a portion of the landmass known as Tellus Mater. While its territories are small, its situation enables it to prosper as a center for trade. More than 700 years are marked in the charts of history since her founding, yet many are the armies that have sought to claim her cultural richness and strategic importance."
Nation of Alterion

"Bloodline begun by the second son of House Devla to take up the mantle of rule after High Mason Thorin's passing. The reign of Thorin's direct descendants, House Crystally, drew to a close after 400 years, marking the end of the Crystallyn Alliance, and the beginning of rule by House Devla. Devlan reign continues for nearly seven centuries…"
House Devla | Former High Mason's house--the Devla Line is officially snuffed out.

Cosanastre, The Holy Realm

The following information refers to the Cosanastre Region. For information on the Capitol City of Alterion please see: Cosanastre Proper, listed below.

The Cosanastre Region is named after the Regional Capitol it surrounds.

.Though it it is not the most advanced Region in Alterion, Cosanastre revolutionized the use and application of Crystal energy. Reactors are housed in every Province to ensure clean and efficient energy is pumped throughout the city, at all times. Cosanastre is also responsible for building and maintaining the Reactors that power the other Regions, as well.

Cosanastre is divided into 8 Provinces (listed below). Each Province is large enough to be a mega-city, or small kingdom, in itself and is ruled by a Regent. Each Regent oversees their territory as they see fit, provided they pay taxes and tribute to the High Mason.

Geography

4hJQc4E.png

The Cosanastre Region represents over one-third of Alterion. Although the region is relatively coastal, Cosanastre has a wide geographic spectrum. Its eastern Provinces brush up with the Devla Desert, Northern Provinces lie within mountainous terrain, the dense MaGNUS Forest encroaches to the west and the balmy seas churn to the South. Amidst Cosanastre's heart swamplands and meadows are interspersed between the various hamlets and laketowns that fall within and without the purview of the surrounding Provinces.

Climate

See: For an explanation of Alterion's Climate.

Cosanastre, in relation to its sister Regions, has the most mild climate, by far. Snow is known to fall on its mountaintops, but it is largely a sunny and warm Region with the odd bit of humidity for its more rural swampland territories and an arid heat for those bordering on the desert. Of all the Regions in Alterion (perhaps Valucre) Cosanastre is regarded as the most pleasant to visit, thanks in large part to its beaches and seaside resorts/attractions. Tropical paradise would not be a remiss title for the southern lands, but overall Cosanastre is a place of warmth.

Demographics

Culture
Cosanastre is home to a wide variety of peoples and is a hot bed of diversity, second  only to Izral. Cosanastre is the Capitol of Alterion and as such the region plays host to the most politically powerful and wealthy denizens. Like any Capital, citizens of all sorts gather, including the less fortunate, all seeking the blessing of the Crystal's light. Tourism and Pilgrimages are common throughout the Cosanastre region.

Common terms used to refer to people are as follows:

Lessers| Sometimes confused with Travelers, they are the beaten, the downtrodden, the small-folk of Cosanastre. Now-a-days most Lessers live in Lessertown, however, many years ago when the economy was better many of these people lived alongside the merchants and citizens in the sun. Despite being forced to live in the lower city, they handle the work that the average citizen will not (cleaning the sewers, digging ditches) and occasionally handle tasks in the Riversands and Devlasands that even the Nobles are afraid to handle. Typically lessers are darker, due to their time spent in the sun laboring, but with Cosanastre's economy suffering more and more people are beginning to populate Lessertown.

Nobles|The Uppercrust, the proverbial boots waiting to be licked, the Nobles live and breathe High Society life. Despite the economic hardships, many Nobles continue to spend lavish amounts in order to prove that they do not suffer as the common man does. Many Nobles are outright hated by Lessers and vice-versa. Unlike the Merchants, the Nobles wealth come from past military conquests and fees that they levy upon the common folk for using their land. It is rumored that some Nobles own their own Gold Mines. Fair of skin and stiff of neck, the Nobles while pompous are typically the most intelligent and best trained in the Region, due to having access to private tutors and trainers. The Nobles are products of the Corporations and while many believe themselves above the organizations their ancestors had a hand in founding--none can truly escape it's collective grasp.

Merchants| One of the most diverse groups in Cosanastre the merchants vary pending on their skills or the luck that has befallen them. Some rub elbows with the Corporate flock others barely make a living among the Lessers. Their diversity makes it difficult to afford them a concrete description as their views vary pending the class they associate with.

Travelers| Gypsies, Tramps, Thieves, only a step above the Lessers because they move around so much. Travelers tend to keep to themselves and have their own unique culture and code that varies from clan-to-clan and from tribe-to-tribe.

The Cosanastre Region is primarily made up of Humans, but other races have settled in various provinces and have been known to rise to power. The current census stands at: Human 70%, Elven (various subtypes) 10%, Dwarven 10%, Orcish (various subtypes) 2%, Other 8%.

Major Companies & Institutions
Daius Industries

A weapons manufacturing and technology company. Often referred to as The Daius, Daius Industries, or the Daius Syndicate is the current ruling Corporation in Alterion. Their shadow reaches across all of Alterion and in some cases across all of Valucre. The High Mason, Ocelot Royce, is also the leader of the Daius Syndicate and as such the one name is synonymous with the other.

Proteus Enterprises

A motorvehicle and airship design and manufacturing company. Proteus Enterperises, aka Proteus Company, is the primary producer, designer and manufacturer of all heavy artillery, mobile suits, motor vehicles, air craft and water craft in Alterion. Since the rise of Ocelot Royce, Proteus Enterprises is now a subsidiary of Daius Industries.

MaGNUS Corp

A pharmaceuticals corporation, MaGNUS Corp was to the Alterion of yesteryear what Daius Industries is to Alterion today. While the four companies always maintained some semblance of balance, MaGNUS Corp was frequently the company. Several years ago a young Daius Operative dismantled MaGNUS Corp and seized power for himself, that man was Ocelot Royce. MaGNUS is now defunct, but the aftermath of their presence is still felt all throughout Alterion.

Aureus Labs

A chemical company, Aureus Labs is home to most of Alterion's alchemic breakthroughs.  Since the rise of Ocelot Royce, Proteus Enterprises is now a subsidiary of Daius Industries.

Religion
The dominant religion of Alterion is Masonism. It is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Riva the Masonress as presented in canonical gospels and other writings. Adherents of the Masonic faith are known as Masons. It is widely believed amongst the Masons that Riva, a female mason attributed with building the first Cathedral of Cosanastre, Alterion's capital city, was the daughter of the one true God, the Crystal and was birthed purely by its will. Riva claimed on many occasions to know the true name of the Crystal and was reportedly able to perform miracles with the power gained by this knowledge. On the eve of her 35th nameday Riva claimed that she would make the name known to her most trustworthy followers, unfortunately Riva was slain before ever bestowing the Name and power to anyone. Although her body was never recovered her tools remain with the High Mason of the Cathedral.

Roughly 98% of Cosanastre's inhabitants are part of the Masonic faith.

Active: Appearance of Riva the Masonress – Present (need to confirm current TM date with Dre)
Role: Faith Based Organization
Size: An official number of Masons is unknown.
Headquarters: The Cathedral
Colors: Dark Blue and Black
Commander: The High Mason [Masons], High Fist (Available) [Poor Sons], High Justicar (Available) [Justicars]
Uniform: Military Fatigues, beneath body armor. The armor often donned by Poor Sons varies based on rank and fiscal status. See Poor Sons Lore for more info.

Landmarks & Monuments

Each of Alterion's provinces have their own key land marks that are worth visiting and typically play host to some particularly powerful artifacts.
The only true Region Wide Landmark is:

Lesser town
Below the Cosanastre Region lies a hidden city, Lessertown. With the constant power struggle between the corporations and shifting of influences many people found themselves forced to move below the street-level over the ages. Initially a means of storage and secret transport for merchants and nobleman, Lessertown is now booming with activity, perhaps more so than Cosanastre proper. Lessertown possesses an intricate series of tunnels that run all through Cosanastre and into almost any city in Alterion. Rumor suggests that Lessertown was once a type of Underdark for the aboriginal Alterians, but this has never been confirmed. Many archaeologists have attempted to delve into Lessertown's origins but few return with concrete information, if they return at all.

Government & National Security

An in depth look at the Alterion military is available here. The most noteworthy for the Cosanastre Region are listed below.

Regent

The Cosanastre Region and all of its provinces fall beneath the purview of the High Mason, Ocelot Royce and (arguably) his heir, Viktus Gallin.

The Poor Sons & Justicar
While the Masons are a collection of Priests and Clergyman they do possess a militant order to defend their faith. The Mason's militaristic order is known as the Poor Sons.
Militant orders of religion have existed at times in history: the Poor Sons are a knightly order comprised of the noble classes and the the common folk. The Poor Sons give up their lands and gold and swear their swords to the High Mason. They bear mallet and chisel shaped crystals in the center of a necklace marking their position. The less favored Poor Sons carry ornate axes and wander the streets of the city, policing and protecting the civilians.

Within the The Poor Sons are a group of soldiers known as the Justicars. While Poor Sons serve as the Church's Muscle, the Justicars are their bloodhounds. A specialized unit within the Poor Sons, the Justicars are employed as a means of controlling the general populace through fear. Given the authority to arrest any they deem a threat on suspicion of crimes against the Masons and the true God, the Justicars had a strong reputation during the reign of the Old High Mason. They are known to torture confessions out of those they question and are typically reviled as the most ruthless of men. They typically adorn the standard Poor Sons accouterments with one small caveat afforded to them: a pristine white cape, cloak or tabard bearing the order's logo.

Daius Syndicate

Founded by one of Riva's supporters, the Diaus Syndicate of Pirates and Assassins rose to prominence alongside the other factions. With the current High Mason having served as Daius Industries CEO and now serving as majority shareholder, the Daius Syndicate and the Masons' interests are one and the same. The Daius Syndicate's operatives are known as Radicals and perform a variety of black ops and espionage on behalf of the High Mason. Daius' elite super soldier program RioT serves as the Masons' heavy hitters with the highest ranked among them serving in Sanctum, the High Mason's personal guard. Daius subsidiaries, Proteus and Aureus are also available if necessary.

Kuten Syndicate

A powerful family of shinobi and assassins, allied to the Daius and attributed with constructing much of its training regime. The Kuten are rarely involved in matters of state, but can be called in when the situation is dire enough.

Transportation
There are a few ways to get around the massive region: If walking all day isn't your cup of tea, automobiles are quite common in Cosanastre. Cosanastre automotives all build their vehicles utilizing a Crystal powered engine, insuring a connection to the Crystal in all things. The engine is powered by a crystalline liquid created by Daius Industries. Most vehicles are long, rounded with large black tires and suicide doors, but the occasional truck is produced, though most are squat and rather boxy.

Spoiler

Rail Transportation is also a major means of commute. A Crystal rail runs around and through the city with a stop located on each Province. The locomotive is powered by an Alterna core feeding a Crystal engine.

Air transportation is common for the Uppers. Airships and Cloud cabs, will cart the wealthy from place to place for a hefty fee.

Education

The Masons provide an education for every man woman and child at their various temples and chapter houses scattered throughout Alterion. The Uppers often hire tutors for their children and their are private academies and universities available for those who can afford them.

Miscellaneous

The favored sport of Cosanastre is a variation of gladiatorial combat and pit fighting, where contestants battle there way into the depths of a pit, with each level offering new challenges and enemies.

A secondary fascination exists with an up and coming sport know as Karattas, a violent sport with a heavy oval shaped ball. The participants each start at opposing ends of a large circular field with the ball at its center. The primary goal is to first return the ball to your goal and then place it in the other team's goal, before finally returning it to the center.

Cosanastre Proper, The Holy City

The very first City founded, Cosanastre is the largest City in Alterion and the nation's Capitol.

Built around the Crystal, it is easily the most densely populated city in all of Alterion. Home to the Masonic Cathedral and Daius Industries Corporate Headquarters, Cosanastre offers a marketplace and trading hub the size of which is unrivaled in all of the known world. An entire district, dedicated solely to the buying and selling of goods stretches throughout the City's--rivaling a small kingdom in size. As the Holy City, Cosanastre is also the most fortified and well guarded city in Alterion, being protected by the Poor Sons as well as the Corporations' soldiers, all of whom serve the High Mason.

The Rusty Buckler

The Cathedral
In the center part of Cosanastre Proper stands a splendid cathedral, built in the Crystallyn style, the bell of which, when rung, sounds through every hearth and home in the city. The Cathedral serves as a gathering to the worshipers of many different faiths and is, in fact, a collection of several different temples devoted to many different gods, some Elder some younger, most are followed faithfully, but all are believed to be connected to the Crystal.

The Crystarium

Deep in the heart of the Cathedral is the Crystarium. The Crystarium is a beast of many parts and is best known as providing the secure defense grid for all digital traffic throughout Alterion. Every transaction made, every byte of information processed is protected and monitored by the Mason's technologically advanced AI. The term 'Crystarium' is used interchangeably with the term 'internet', at times though this is a bit of a misconception.

The Crystal Vault

The Crystal Vault is the financial hub of Alterion. Every Note that exchanges hands is regarding an ounce of precious metal or gemstone located within it. In addition to this the Crystal Vault houses the primary Alchemy Crystals used for wireless banking transactions throughout Alterion. It also holds all the secrets that High level Alterian Alchemists utilize to create precious metals, etc, when necessary.

Daius Industries HQ
A short walk North from the Cathedral will lead you to the gates of Daius Industries. This magnificent structure is home to the Daius higher ups, and barracks to the order of elite soldiers, RioT,that serve them. The structure itself was built several centuries ago and has since been home to many Daius Leaders, Long Tom Gallin being the most recent, prior to his assassination at the hands of his protege, foster child and subsequent heir, Ocelot Royce. Numerous additions have been made to the structure over the course of its long history (the Grand City of Casonastre having several times fallen under the control of different corporations), but the overall bearing of its architecture is true to the original Crystallyn design. Within the building are secret chambers containing documents and treasures belonging to the Daius, including several documents regarding the masonry.

The Skydrome
The skydrome can be found in Province , surrounded by numerous privately operated airship docks. Built to house airships of varying sizes the Skydrome is the largest structure in the city, save the Daius Corporate office. It also houses the aircab system that allows nobles and others of means to travel around the city with greater speed.

The dominant religion of Alterion is Masonism. It is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Riva the Masonress as presented in canonical gospels and other writings. ─SECTOR 3 - PHARMACEUTICAL DISTRICT  ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Point of Contact: @CATZ

Summary: Sector 3 is dedicated to medicinal sciences and pharmaceuticals, although facilities also exist for research in related areas such as chemistry or non-human biology. This sector houses the highest overall concentration of research and development infrastructure, with laboratories and scientific supplies widely available as a natural consequence of its role in the city. More citizens simply work here or visit when in need of its services than actually live within the sector, although those who do live here tend to be dedicated scientists and doctors from the upper classes.

Hotspots:

--Cosanastre General: Seat of regent’s power
--The Pharmacy: This lounge is a center of distribution for the newest and most exotic recreational drugs, with facilities designed to cater specifically to the experienced and tasteful junkie

Sector 3 often flies under the political radar in Cosanastre, which is just as its proprietors prefer. It may seem odd to devote an entire sector of the city to primarily medical pursuits, that the population of Alterion must be very sickly indeed if this is the case. However, “medicine” in Sector 3 encompasses much more than mere checkups and treatments for common ailments. The power of the Crystal is harnessed here to go far beyond routine healthcare: Cybernetic upgrades, prosthetic body parts, the sculpting of flesh into more attractive shapes, the prolonging of life, all these and more are on the (operating) table. For those who can pay.

The desire to master death is one of man’s most universal dreams. The fabulously wealthy in Cosanastre, like those in any society, take a keen interest in this pursuit. They constantly seek to advance themselves towards this goal, hoping to modify and improve their bodies so as tho avoid death—not only death from disease or age, but also from violence, poison, or other less natural causes that are frequently employed in the power struggles of the nobility. Another common pursuit among a society’s rich and powerful is that of vanity, and again Alterion is no exception, with various body shapes, modifications, and other decorative enhancements going in and out of style like fashion trends, serving to denote the “wearer’s” status, both their cultural taste and their wealth.

This is all reserved for the microcosm of the upper crusts, however. Most citizens are relatively fortunate if they can afford basic care, which is of excellent quality once purchased, but never given freely or even at a discount, save perhaps by personal order of the regent or other high-ranking doctors. Nearly any disease can be cured, any chronic or degenerative condition reversed, any injuries healed, even the loss of limbs or vegetative states—all for the right price. Only the most sophisticated arcane plagues can resist Sector 3’s treatment, and even these can usually be dealt with given time and proper attention from research staff.

Undesirables, however, are strictly forbidden from even entering the sector. Residents of Lessertown are denied entry as a matter of course, and must pass a credit check before being approved for consultation. Naturally, most fail, and are left to return to the slums where they can beg in vain for the money they need, though it is not uncommon for criminal elements made rich off their illicit activities to seek the services of Sector 3. This is allowed, no questions asked, so long as the payment does not raise any concerns of counterfeiting, a policy which gives the criminal gangs yet another advantage and perpetuates the cycle of poverty and violence in Lessertown--intentionally so, some have speculated.

The regent of the sector takes little interest in its day to day affairs, and may not even be present within Sector 3 at any given time. So long as its resources are available for his personal use on his demand, and everything remains stable, he leaves the administrators to run things as they see fit. Since he does not generally ask for much when pursuing his interests, and often procures valuable research samples on his own initiative, the sector’s inhabitants are content with this arrangement. Those few who have seen fit to antagonize him have all promptly disappeared, their names and very identities struck from record as if they never existed to begin with.

Topography

Sector 3 appears highly organized, clean, and sterile, as one might expect from a town run by doctors and scientists. Buildings are constructed with precise angles and sharp edges. The color spectrum here runs from pure white to shining silver, broken up only by the occasional row of neatly trimmed trees or hedges. Many structures feature large rectangular windows, and it is not uncommon for buildings to be sided entirely by durable glass on one side. All streets are ramrod straight and run in a grid pattern, with city blocks having consistent sizes and not a single piece of trash to be seen. Even the roads are painted a soft grey rather than black.

Many small clinics and medical centers are spread throughout Sector 3. These handle more mundane medical tasks such as check-ups/follow-ups and the treatment of simple injuries or ailments. If a patient desires more advanced care, they are directed to one of the hospitals, towering structures with dozens of floors staffed by senior personnel. Each hospital specializes in a certain area of bodycraft, such as cybernetics, aesthetics, the treatment of deadly magical diseases or poisons, etc. In the center is Cosanastre General, a monolithic complex that is built more like a fortress than a hospital, although it does have all the services of a hospital and more within. This is where the regent resides, and it contains the most cutting-edge technology and most highly classified research projects of Sector 3.

Other buildings dedicated to secondary functions, primarily research but also residence and utility, are mixed in with the clinics and hospitals.

Passages to Lessertown continue to pop up within Sector 3. These are occasionally used by undesirables to gain entry; such incursions are dealt with swiftly and efficiently, but they remain a nuisance. The regent knows he cannot prevent such passages from existing. Rather, he tries to identify and monitor all such tunnels so as to ensure that they are only used by..... approved parties.

Trade

Naturally, Sector 3 trades mostly in services rather than goods. The primary material good which it puts to market are pharmaceuticals. Pills and supplements of all kinds, to suit nearly any purpose, are manufactured here to be popped by Cosanastre’s population. These tend to be highly effective and work as advertised (although unfortunate side effects may sometimes slip through said advertising), with the exception of Lessertown, whose desperate residents are scammed into spending what little money they might have on sugar pills and saline water by Sector 3’s drug companies. Still, the residents of the slums are so poor to begin with that the majority of profits come from sales to the upper class and exports to other regions.

In addition to standard pharmaceuticals, there is a thriving market for recreational drugs (both legal and otherwise) based out of Sector 3’s labs. Those with the appetite for addiction are always chasing the next big high, the next new experience, and Sector 3’s chemists do their best to deliver. Substances available of this kind can have truly wondrous effects, inducing transcendent states of mind, feelings of intense pleasure or prolonged experiences of euphoria. However, they all come with one effect in common: Addiction. An addict is a customer for life, and so these drugs are intentionally engineered to be incredibly addictive and inflict debilitating withdrawal symptoms if usage is ceased. They are also consumed at the user’s risk and prone to any number of dangerous side effects or adverse reactions, Sector 3 held strictly not liable.

Culture

Sector 3 does not have its own “culture” to the same extent as many areas due to the fact that more people simply work here than actually live here, so whatever “culture” the sector has is simply imported along with its workforce. Still, those who are particularly invested in the sector, usually the higher ranking doctors and administrators, often choose to live within it and have developed small residential enclaves. Since the sector is not primarily intended as living space, such housing is cramped by comparison to most sectors, with many people starting in a single room dormitory-style arrangement and eventually purchasing a small apartment once they have moved far enough along in their careers to afford the upgrade. While it may not always be spacious, housing remains high quality in all other respects.

The medical staff in Sector 3 reflect the people whom they primarily serve and communities which, in many cases, they originate from. Vain and highly competitive, doctors and nurses are as likely to modify their bodies as anyone else, possibly even more so as upgrades to fine motor skills and other such enhancements can objectively improve the efficiency of their work. Service providers struggle for the attentions of the most highly valued and influential clients through means both overt and subtle; few with senior positions at the hospitals made it there without sabotaging the careers of others in the process. In this way, they form a pecking order of their own, not unlike that of the nobility with whom they mingle.

Military

Due to its nature Sector 3 does not maintain a formal “military” of its own. If overt military operations were to take place in a capacity involving the sector or its interests, it would defer to and rely upon Alterion national military forces such as the Poor Sons to carry out said operations. This does not, of course, mean that if the national military units were disbanded tomorrow, Sector 3 would be left helpless. While there are no formal military units, the regent employs a contingent of cyborg operatives when something needs to be “handled.” These individuals receive advanced and highly specialized cybernetic modifications, making them lethal combatants and expert infiltrators. Any organized group which were to draw the ire of Sector 3 would find its leaders mysteriously disappearing, its members falling sick with virulent and seemingly incurable diseases, and its sensitive information regularly stolen or destroyed.

Since a large amount of sensitive materials and valuable research are housed here, Sector 3 also sports a high concentration of automated security systems. These can vary greatly in how they operate depending on which particular firm they have been contracted out to, but all will prove to be quite deadly to unauthorized intruders. Automated security is also employed on the borders of the sector to keep undesirables out; the wall surrounding Sector 3 can be electrified on command, and is typically set to do so if anyone not recognized on biometric scans attempts to scale it. Cosanastre General has a set of heavier, military-grade defenses installed which can be deployed in the event of a terrorist attack or other emergency, but which are hidden from view normally.

Setroth Province

NithwIP.png

Setroth is one of the constituent provinces of the Cosanastre Region on the continent of Alterion. It is the second-largest of the provinces behind Cosanastre Proper and is considered the most fertile and heavily-populated part of Cosanastre.

Setroth is considered the home of chivalry in Cosanastre. It is the place where knighthood is looked upon with the greatest reverence and esteemed the most. It is also the place where the rules to tournaments and duels  are the most stringent and managed.

Setroth is ruled from the castle fortress of Yggdradern by the Tyndall family. While far from the oldest name among the Uppers, the Tyndall’s can still trace their lineage back to one of the founding merchant families that settled Cosanastre.

Geography

Located roughly 200 miles (322km) NW from Cosanastre Proper the Setroth Province is a land of bountiful rolling hills and rich sprawling fields.

Setroth is the most fertile part of Cosanastre  and has numerous and well-populated villages and towns. The Opharion Province is found to the west, while the hills of the Vysroth Province and the devlasands are to the east and the mountainous Kageroth Province is to the north.

Setroth is watered by the immense river Lanre and its tributaries, including the Bluebeard and the Arcley. Yggdradern  is centered around the Lanre. Fangmire Swamps is located at the mouth of a large river called  the Blackrum. The Province also includes several notable including Heider’s Tower, Fangmire Swamps and Azileth’s Keep.

Climate

Setroth has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. It tends to receive less rainfall than Cosanastre Proper but more than most of the other regions. Given its reliance on agriculture the climate control technology is at its finest in Setroth and ensures that every crop is produced at peak output.

Demographics

Culture

The denizens of  Setroth Province place a great deal of stock in honor and chivalry. While they are not unaccustomed to dishonest trade practices, they believe in fairness above all else and try to ensure that even those on the losing end are afforded  their honor.

The Uppers tend to be more extravagant but also far more generous than most of their Regional compatriots. Though there remains a firm class divisions, most understand that the common man keep them wealthy and well fed.

The Lessers of Setroth are far more hardy and well cared for than the Lessers of other provinces. They have very little in the way of formal education, outside of what the Masonic temples make available, but are well versed in agronomy.

Merchants tends to be less tight-fisted and lend to the booming economy by encouraging the growth of small businesses.

Alchemists from Setroth are known to specialize in a unique school called the Verdant Hand, known for its ability to cultivate and manipulate plant life. Practitioners are sometimes called geomancers by foreigners, but their arts have kept Alterion fed for generations.

 Economy

Setroth is the second wealthiest region in the Cosanastre Region behind the Arysene Province, but it is the most fertile region. Among the products it produces are melons, blood oranges, black peaches, apples, and grapes. It is said it’s Alchemists make the finest of wines, from dry fruity reds to a rich golden vintage.

Major Companies & Institutions
(Dear Valucre members, your business can be listed/linked right here! PM me and find out how.)

Terros Corp

Terros Corp is an agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation and he biggest producer of genetically engineered crops in all of Valucre. Specializing in agriculture Terros Corp is responsible for the genetically altered seeds and chemicals that keep Setroth crops growing strong. It employs some of the most gifted agronomists and Verdant Hand alchemists in the known world.

Terros Alchemists have branched out (hurhur) over the years and have weaponized many species of plant life. Their most successful (that they can control) are afforded to the Masons and other buyers for military use with their failures being dumped in Fangmire Swamps.

Landmarks & Monuments

Heider’s Tower

TTxmsvv.jpg

Heider was a renowned  alchemist and notorious curmudgeon who picked a fight with just about anyone who breathed near him. By virtue of skill or birth, most people ignored Heider and left him to his experiments—conducted in his Tower upon his families lands.  Heider is best known for his feud with the Witches of Azileth, which ultimately ended with Heider’s disappearance.

Whatever his faults Heider was a brilliant Alchemist and his library is known to have some of the greatest alchemical formulae ever conceived within its collections. Provided you can suffer Heider’s venomous (and startlingly misogynistic) narration, within his tomes are the secrets of the universe. Heider’s Tower is a marvel to behold with rooms upon rooms of books and data crystals on Alchemy and the history of metaphysica in Alterion. A handful of rooms have been barred shut by alchemical runes and supposedly possess several artifacts and riches. Only the brave dare challenge Heider’s traps, for the man was notoriously wicked.

In the main library a bust of Heider rests atop the highest shelf (supposedly a gift from the Azileth Coven) and it is rumored that visitors can see his pinched glowers visage following them as they rummage through his home.

Azileth’s Keep

jPflCGb.jpg

The Witches of Azileth were some of the most gifted female Alchemists of their time. Many were perceived to have been blessed by the Crystal as many were born with abilities not afforded to them by alchemical study, leading to their being labeled ‘Witches’ by the Lessers. Their keep sat atop the Azelith ridge in the northern Setroth Province encroaching on the Kageroth border.

Their storied feud with Heider began when the Witches were chosen by Tyndall family to train their children in the alchemical arts. Few know what transpired between the two groups beyond he initial disagreement, but it is rumored that after the rape and murder of a sister witch (at Heider’s hand) the High Alchemist of the Coven dueled Heider and turned him to stone. She then cut away his remains into a bust and placed it in his tower, forcing him to watch the Witches and any they deemed worthy of rummaging through his tomes.

The Keep doubled as a home for the female Alchemists who studied their and it is speculated that it served as the breeding ground for a great deal of witchcraft. The Masons have never been the most understanding in regards to Witch craft and maintain strict control over the practice of contacting and subjugating demons. It is rumored the Witches not only practiced demonology but mastered it beyond that of the Masons of their time.

Within its walls are said to reside the ghosts of those poor souls who through trial and error made pacts with Eldritch creatures. Those of who study the arcane and witchcraft will occasionally pilgrimage to the Keep in hopes of plundering it’s halls, but few leave and those that do rarely escape with their sanity.

Fangmire Swamps

myS8JWc.jpg

The Fangmire Swamps were dangerous before Terros Corp started dumping its abominations there. Since then, however, Fangmire is recommended only  for the most hardy adventurer to journey through. If you feel up to the task, however, the beasts within are rare enough to warrant study. And, it’s rumored,  deep within Fangmire Swamps is the Fangmire Facility. Fangmire Labs was the one time rival of Terros Corp, bad luck and poor investments led to their downfall, but their research remains along with some of their own creations.

Landing Castle Info

Spoiler

Royal Castles are massive Alterian space carriers. There are 37 Landing Castles, each one commanded by and named after the 37 Royals (e.g. Prince Starfall's Landing Castle is called Castle Starfall). They initially orbit around Alterian Space and as their name suggests, land on it to deploy the soldiers, automatons, Mobile suits and set up a base of operations.

Description
Royal Castles are roughly 2 km in length. Each Castle are their own distinct military force and serve as a fortress and base of operations for each Royal. A Castle Fortress is a specialized Landing Castle that has been built around the castles of Alterion's old monarchy. There are no more than 7 Castle Fortresses and they are roughly twice the size of a standard landing castle.

Tech
Royal Castles are designed to be dropped from orbit onto the surface of a planet. They were, however, originally intended to construct colonies on other planets.

While in orbit, the Castles four "arms" are closed and rotate clockwise around a central section to keep its axis stable using the gyroscopic effect. The rotation being stopped is part of the preparations for descent to the target location on the ground below.

In order to withstand the tremendous heat and impact of dropping down with several times the speed of sound, its outer side has heavy armor which doubles as protection against any attacks from the ground during descent.

The sharp tip on the lower side stabs into the ground and the kinetic energy of the castle drives it far enough into the earth to stabilize the structure. A useful side effect is the enormous shock-wave which obliterates anything and anyone in the near vicinity of the landing zone. Before the war, this was most likely used to make the ground around the landing castle easier to build on, but during War it is a convenient means to clear the landing area of any hostiles. The Crystal Technology on board prevents the crew from getting flattened by the enormous G-forces upon impact.

While approaching the landing zone, its four "arms" begin opening and once the landing is complete, the rotal castle stands with all four arms wide open, although some decoration details vary from castle to castle.

Once landed, the castle serves as a base of operations and is not meant for direct combat. For defense it relies on the Mobile Suits of the Alterian Knights, as well as various robo-guards and automatons.

As they are colonization vehicles, they severely lack internal security, making them very vulnerable to enemies who managed to get inside.

Landing castles are also capable of leaving Valucre's atmosphere under their own power and returning to space if the situation demands.

Yggdradern is the Castle Fortress of the Setroth Province. It is surrounded by three rings of white stone whose walls increase in height. Between the outer and middle walls is a famous alchemy-briar labyrinth which serves to entertain as well as slow invaders. The oldest towers, squat and square, from the Age of Riva. Newer towers are tall and slender, round fortifications dating from after the rise of the companies.

Also within Yggdradern's walls are groves, fountains, and courtyards. The Masonic Church is matched only by the Cathedral of Cosanastre Proper. The palatial keep is decorated with statues and colonnades. The castle's structures are covered in ivy, grapes, and climbing roses.

Equipment

Crystal Drive

The main power source of a Royal Castle. It will stay activated even if the Orbital Knight, who activated it, is absent and will only power down when either the person who activated it shuts it down himself, the said person dies, or the Primarch of the Royal lineage forcibly shuts it down.

  • Sky Carrier
Royal Castles are equipped with a hangar for Sky Carriers, which carry heavy machinery such as Mobile Suits  to their destination or even infantry soldiers as well. These aircraft are equipped with turrets and missiles for defense.

  • Mobile Suits
Each Royal Castle belongs to one of the 37 Imperial Heirs, and has at least one of their own mobile suits on board. When not in use, they are stored in a liquid Crystal, most likely to avoid damaging them during descent. Each Royal Castle is equipped with multiple tanks for storing and maintaining.

  • Audience Chamber
The audience chamber enables holographic communication, it is mainly used by the Imperial Heirs to talk to the High Mason. It works by projecting a holographic version of the user in the Cathedral which enables said user to communicate face to face with the High Mason without the restrictions of being separated by a screen, hence the name "Audience Chamber".
In order to use it, certain preparations are needed such as contacting the The Masons directly who relas the conversation to the High Mason's location with means of FTL (Faster Than Light) communication, bypassing the time one would normally need to wait until a signal reaches its destination and comes back.
As long as the connection is established, anyone can use the audience chamber to talk to the High Mason, even if said person does not possess the activation rights for Crystal Energy or even the permission to be in the Audience chamber in the first place.
Armaments

  • Missiles
The Royal Castle is equipped with numerous missile ports which can be used to attack targets from afar. In times of war, the missiles can be used to destroy any means of long range communication such as undersea cables, radio stations, and any communication satellites up in orbit.

  • Bunker Busters
The Royal Castle comes equipped with numerous missiles that are bunker busters. They are designed to penetrate hardened targets or targets buried deep underground.

  • Anti-Aircraft Guns
Each Royal Castle is equipped with several AA guns that are maneuverable for combating incoming hostiles within its inner perimeter, but the AA guns look more akin to tanks.

Regent
Vacant (NPC Occupied)

Gerath Tyndall, current head of the Tyndall family resides in Yggdradern overseeing his family’s interests.

Gerath is a handsome and once-powerful-looking man who has since turned to fat. He has curly blonde hair and cuts his beard, which has white and grey specks in it, into a triangular shape. He is often red-faced. Many assume Gerath to be in his late fifties although he is actually in his early forties.

Gerath has a generally jovial personality. He thinks himself a great warrior, although his reputation rests solely on the victory over Long Tom Gallin in a land disputewhich had largely been won by Gerath’s  entourage, before Gareth even arrived at the battlefield, and the command Gerath held during the siege of Orcthanc, which ended when Gerath was saved by a young Daius Radical, Ocelot Royce. Gerath is ambitious, wishing to see a grandchild of his as the High Mason. Despite that, his mother, Lady Glenna Tyndall, can easily hector him, and so influence his decisions. Gerath is considered an oaf by his mother and wife and a fool by his Upper rivals. His favorite son is Gwyn, the youngest, and his closest friend is Lord Paxton Fargo his brother-in-law.

His eldest son Gawain is a renowned warrior though it is Gwyn who served as the First Sword of Setroth (a title reserved for the Province’s best warrior). Gerath’s daughter Gwendolyn is the current CEO of Terros Corp.

The Poor Sons and Justicar

100,000 Poor Sons and 800 Justicar uphold the law in the province of Setroth, receiving their orders directly from the Archdiocese Justicar Inquisitor.

History

The Setroth Province was one of the first Provinces secured by Riva and her Masons after seizing power and it did not come cheap. Before the Masonress, Setroth was a kingdom of its own and its King, Wymar Tyndall did not see fit to hand his lands over to a little girl, even if she had the support of the four companies (the MaGNUS Merchant Guild, The Daius Syndicate of Pirates, The Proteus Guard Corps, and the Aureus Alchemist Collective). In the end, the Leader of the Daius, Evisury Kallan, struck Wymar’s Head from his shoulders and placed the crown at Riva’s feet. The Masonress shattered the crown and reshaped it into the Regent’s chain which she bestowed to Wymar’s daughter as a reminder of what fate awaited those who opposed the Masonress.

Summary:  Sector 5, despite being far removed from the city's center is the second highest grossing district throughout Cosanastre. While several other districts have taverns and theaters, most of them pale in comparison to what can be found here. A city of lights blinds the populace to their worries and woes, promising to drown their troubles in any drink imaginable and ease their mind with a selection of decadence that people just don't talk to their Priest about. The Masonic Faith preaches forgiveness and absolvement of sins, without sector 5 they'd be out of a job. Due to the loose morals prevalent in such districts, the criminal element has a strong presence here and faces minimal resistance from the Poor Sons.

REGION_5 -RESIDENTIAL ════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

─SECTOR 8 - RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Summary:  Sector 8 is the largest sector in Cosanastre and makes up all of Lessertown, which actually stretches beneath the city itself. In the days of Cosanastre's founding there was only one sector and this was it. After centuries of strife and war and progress, the lower city gradually became less and less of a priority and the Corporations neglected it's preservation. Lessertown is a cesspool of filth and poverty. Slums and black markets bring in some meager coin, but it's barely enough to afford the single Poor Son patrol that visits once a day. Lessertown is a haven for the criminal element, but still cannot manage to generate a great deal of income.

╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝

Sector Eight, also known as Lessertown, is a vast slum built below and around Cosanastre itself.  It is incredibly dense, in terms of both structure and population, and houses the majority of the city's population, though it only possesses a fraction of its material wealth.  Official law enforcement is virtually nonexistent here, with only the occasional Poor Sons patrol passing through for a brief check.  As a result, the Sector is mostly controlled by armed gangs of thugs, each of which governs a small fragment of Lessertown.   While often in competition, all notable gangs answer to the Sector's regent, a witch known as Kim Osa, who keeps them under control with a simple dogma: obey, or get wiped out.  In general, she allows these disparate criminal organizations to manage and govern their own pieces of the slums in whatever brutal manner they wish, uniting them occasionally when a brute force solution is needed to a matter concerning the entire Sector.

Life in Lessertown is hectic, with almost all its residents struggling day by day to keep themselves and their families alive.  There are many occupations to be found: brothels, taverns, apothecaries, butchers, carpenters, and all manner of other establishments are plentiful in the slums, although their quality tends to be on the very lowest end of the spectrum.  For every semi-official 'business,' there are two fakes run by con artists, ten street peddlers trying to sell the same things, and a hundred thieves, muggers, and pickpockets looking to steal the money off any visitor wealthy enough to actually buy the crap on offer.

Although Sector Eight lacks the technological prowess present in most of Cosanastre, it has begun to evolve on its own under the leadership of Kim Osa.  While metal and crystal-based devices are rare here (with the notable exception of firearms), biological ones are growing more common, with artificially engineered beasts, modified plants, and animated servants made from stitched-together corpses being used as a free and nearly endless source of labor.  The regent is currently the main source of these creations, the production and distribution of which helps maintain her hold on the Sector while simultaneously shaping its development.  Corpses are rarely left alone in Lessertown: any available biomass will be quickly gathered and delivered to one of many hidden workshops, to serve as raw materials for Osa and her underlings.

Topography

Most of Sector Eight consists of ramshackle buildings of wood, metal, and stone, packed together in an uncoordinated jumble that extends for miles.  Though few individual structures are very high, many will have others built on top of them, whose rooftops in turn serve as the foundation for yet more shacks and hovels.  Unsurprisingly, these haphazard hives are usually in a state of extensive disrepair.

Perhaps the only area with any reasonable architecture is the region surrounding the Crystal Rail station, which serves as the main access point to Cosanastre proper.  Although still hardly impressive, the streets in this area tend to be lined with more solidly constructions.  The regent's residence, a large and intimidating black edifice that looms over everything nearby, is located firmly within this small oasis of order.

Though vast and labyrinthine enough on the surface, Lessertown is nothing compared to the massive network of tunnels that extends for miles and miles beneath it.  It is said that one can get anywhere in Alterion through these tunnels, and indeed, there are known channels that extend underground all the way to Arkadia Prime and Izral.  Some of the wider and more well-mapped tunnels serve as major trade routes, or as shelters and homes for those with nowhere else to go.  The majority of the network, however, remains unknown and unexplored.  The Regent has her own set of secret passages and caverns, allowing Osa and her allies to travel unnoticed virtually anywhere in the Sector.  Many of the gangs also have their own hideaways concealed underground.  The majority of the deeper areas, however, are home to... things.  People don't go down that far, not if they have any hope of ever seeing daylight again.

Culture

Surviving in Lessertown is tough, and its inhabitants reflect this.  The weak are quickly weeded out in the slums, and as a result, people here tend to be cunning, hardy, and resilient.  The gangs impose their rule through harsh violence and brutal extortion, and keep an eye on everything that moves.  The common people keep their heads down, scurrying about earning what little their can while constantly keeping an eye out for opportunities to scrabble a few rungs up the social ladder.  Anyone and everyone down here has been a thief, at one time or another.  Though the harsh conditions have bred empathy and charity in some, by and large the people of Sector Eight are dishonest and untrustworthy, seeking only to serve their greedy, desperate selves.

Wealthier visitors are treated with a strange mixture of respect and spite.  On one hand, inhabitants of the slums will not hesitate to suck up to anyone who looks like they have means, in the hopes of seeing some generosity for their behavior.  On the other hand, they will simultaneously be looking for any possible chance to turn on those with money, and rob them of everything they own.

Most of the population is illiterate, and doesn't know a great deal about the world beyond the slums, beyond what they hear based on word of mouth.  Occasionally, however, a scholar down on their luck or a criminal from greener pastures will end up here, and with such a large population, Lessertown sometimes produces geniuses of its own.  Such individuals are quickly recruited by Kim Osa's agents, to serve as informants up in Cosanastre itself, or as sculptors of flesh in hidden workshops down in the tunnels.

Trade

Almost anything can be bought in Sector Eight: food, weapons, magical charms, books, furniture, artifacts, etcetera.  However, virtually all of these are either fakes or garbage.  Occasionally, a hidden gem may be found, but nobody goes looking for anything of quality down here.

The rumored 'plague markets' do offer some more valuable items, for those seeking goods expressly forbidden by law elsewhere.  Finding these elusive bazaars, however, is difficult, as they are kept well-hidden and frequently moved to avoid any authorities that might be searching for them.

Military

Lessertown has no official guard or military force of its own, at least not on paper.  In practice, the slums are swarming with gang members, who may be mobilized en masse to deal with any major disturbance.  Although lacking in training and coordination, each and every one of these people is smart, fast, and experienced, not to mention very comfortable with open violence.  Armaments vary from firearms to crossbows to chemical weapons and even magic, with each fighter wielding whatever they can get their hands on.  Their combined brutality and sheer numbers have so far kept the chaotic populace of Sector Eight under control.

The regent herself will usually call upon the gangs when she has need of manpower, but Kim Osa has not forgotten to build up her own forces.  The witch is served by a small but well-trained division of hand-picked guards and agents, all of whom have been biologically modified to give them enhanced senses, speed, strength, and reflexes.  Various specialists among these may also possess more extensive mutations, such as claws, dermal armor, poisoned quills, and backup organs.  Osa is also rumored to be stockpiling powerful biological weapons, in case of more extreme scenarios.  Though rarely employed directly, her forces will quickly deal with anyone who appears to threaten her rule.

Daius Lore Article

UPDATED: APRIL 6, 2016

Despite all claims to the contrary, Alterion is an oligarchy. The High Mason has very little power and instead defers all matters of National Security to the Four Companies. Daius Industries, Proteus Enterprises, Aureus Labs and Magnus Corp all play a critical role in the nation and they all scheme to gain the strongest hold over the High Mason, rather that was the case before Magnus Corp fell apart. In a ruthless move to seize control, Daius Industries asserts it's will over the High Mason, threatening to end the struggle for power that has existed since the founding of the nation. Since Ocelot Royce's rise to power, Daius has become the premier Company of Alterion and rules with an iron fist. Since Ocelot Royce claimed the seat of High Mason, Daius Industries has seized control of the remaining founding factions and can now claim total dominance over Alterion. As it stands roughly 85% of all trade that occurs regarding Alterian products belong to the Daius or a Daius subsidiary.

History
Daius Industries was founded by Evisury Kallen in the 3rd century of The Masonic Calendar and later taken over by a group of shareholders and then by it's three most influential members, who became the first Triad. Evisury was we'll known at the time as a Pirate Lord and a Master assassin. Together, with the other Founders, he built a system that allowed his followers to exploit the populace while simultaneously masking as its savior. Though Cosanastre was already the Holy City, it was at Evisury's insistence that the city also serve as the seat of the High Mason.

Functions
The company is a technology company that develops and manufactures advanced weapon and defense technologies for the defense and safety of Alterion. The company manufactures the armor worn by their elite RioT soldiers. It builds the weapons used by the Poor Sons and the Justicar's and also creates the personnel carriers utilized by the city militia. Daius holds the largest military contract with the Masons and operates largely out of their Corporate Headquarters in Cosanastre. While Proteus operates as the primary militant force in Alterion, along with the Poor Sons and the Justicar's--the Daius handle special operations and covert intelligence. Daius soldiers are trained in the use of advanced weaponry and are also adept spell casters. Unlike Aureus and Proteus, the Daius do not specialize in either field and instead present a more balanced approached to combat. It is worth noting, however, that both Proteus Enterprises and Aureus Labs are not subsidiaries of Daius Industries.

Radicals

The Radicals act similarly to an intelligence agency or investigative bureau, engaging in reconnaissance and espionage, or even black ops, including kidnappings and assassinations, on behalf of the Daius corporation and thus Alterion. Typically garbed in a dark suit and tie, the Radicals are the standard Daius Operatives and are considered the most cunning individuals in all of Alterion.

RioT

The elite of the elite, RioT Soldiers are recruited not only from within Daius, but from the other companies, as well as the Poor Sons and the general populace. No military training is required to join RioT, as the organization assesses an individual's potential, but those recruits with prior military experience typically start at a higher rank. Given that RioT represents the best that Alterion has to offer, they are afforded the best equipment and the most freedom of any other military branch. Though they are not gods, it is believed a RioT: First Class can face down an entire division of standard soldiers.

However, it is not only their training that warrants them this power; all RioT members are infused with Crystalline Energy, as well as a chemical cocktail designed to push them past the limits of the Hume form and into the realm of meta-Hume.

RioT Soldiers are ranked from 3rd to 1st class, with 1st class being the strongest and most sought after designation. Those skilled enough to enter 1st Class status are then given the opportunity of joining Sanctum.

RioT's Elite are known as Sanctum and serve at the pleasure of the High Mason as personal bodyguards and soldiers. They receive the finest weaponry and ancient Alterna imbued with the power of fallen Spirits known as the Zodiak Brave. To be a knight of Sanctum is to be considered one of the greatest warriors in all of Alterion and possibly the world.
