Quest Board

Recommended Posts

Alterion boasts a number of ways for denizens to post work and find work. In addition to digital bulletin boards posted in almost every mercantile shop, hundreds of message boards exist on the Alterion Crystalnet. Anyone with access may accept work.

Quest Rules
Quests are the easiest (but not the only) way to impact Alterion canon and build reputation for any organization in Alterion (The Hunters Association, The Daius Syndicate, The Masons, The Kuten Syndicate, etc). Completing any quest automatically gets it included in its respective lore article.

  • PM me before undertaking a quest so I can update availability
  • Include a [quest] bracket in your thread title
  • If a quest goes 30 days or more without a post, the quest will be made available
  • Rewards include: canonization and inclusion in the lore, IC spoils that you can determine, post-credits (see below), and your thread will be pinned or featured in the local board until the next canon event
  • Given the rewards, if the quest is too easily accomplished your canonization may be denied. Players should keep in mind that even death isn't permanent in a place like Valucre
  • At the end of every quest, it is a requirement that you follow the Alterion Canonization Process, especially with regards to generating a new opportunity. This submission is how players reap rewards and get their activity documented

Each is a writing prompt, and is usually either in or near one of the major cities or settings. The details of the quest are open to modification and interpretation by the players or appointed GM (Game-Master). Players are free to play the quests out however they like, allowing them to express themselves as writers while directly impacting the canon.

If you pick up a quest and are by yourself at the start, you can use the Water Cooler to both players for your team and/or cast a net out for anyone that might want to GM. Class S quests require an ST.

Class C (Easy): 1.25x post-credit value. 1 player. 1+ page.
Class B (Medium): 1.5x post-credit value. 1+ players. 2+ page.
Class A (Hard): 2x post-credit value. 1+ players. 3+ pages.
Class S (Crazy): 3x post-credit value. 2+ players. 5+ pages.

Events & Mini-Events

Events are planned threads where in which Alterion staff roll out a unifying plot that multiple writers can take part in. It might be a nationwide competition, or a massive and out of control climate shift, or even a full scale war. Oftentimes this occurs in a multitude of threads sporting a shared tag. Most Events directly affect the Lore in some way and are almost always open for anyone to join. The result of Events aren't always massive, but they're a guaranteed way for your character to make a name for him/herself.

Mini-Events are similar to Events in that they are planned by staff. However, mini-events are (more often than not) plots designed to bring about a specific change in the lore that the staff member is wanting to see unfold. These typically include, the fall of a named city, the death of a major political figure, etc. They're usually semi-closed, meaning anyone can join provided they seek permission first. Mini-Events are more common place in Alterion as they're smaller, easier to contain and have a higher likelihood of concluding than large-scale Events.

(The Following is a WIP until I have time to clean it up. Eventually, each quest will be moved to its respective legend page and linked in this thread. )

NOV. CLASS V VILLAIN - To be revealed

Special Event & Lore: Ocelot Royce, the High Mason and ruler of Alterion, has reinstated an old Alterian Tradition, the King's Feast. Long ago, the original  Winter King hosted an event wherein which the streets of the crowned city were closed off, infested with all manner of monster and beast, and those brave enough roamed the city proving their prowess by defeating the creatures. Points were awarded for each creature, with more dangerous monsters being worth more points. In addition to this, the nobles and peasants alike could wager points, as well.  It is said during the first King's Feast, the King's most trusted advisor betrayed him and snuck the young Masonress, Riva--who had participated in the Feast for just this opportunity, into the King's quarters where she slayed him and claimed the city for the Masons. Ever since, Riva's most devout followers held the event each year, until the previous High Mason outlawed the blood sport.

The Feast is a challenge issued to the world's bravest and most daring warriors and its most ambitious gamblers. More than that it is an opportunity for those who seek change not only within themselves, but within the world. Fortunes have been made and paupers risen to the status of prince's by backing the right contender.  The missive invites all interested to journey to Cosanastre and participate in either the hunting or the gambling portion. Prizes will be awarded to those who complete the event with the most points.

Mini-Event

rebellious reprisals

The city of Izral is one of Alterion's crowning achievements, for no matter how the Masons have struggled over the centuries, Izral has forever been a hotbed of the Rebellion. Never one to be held for more than a few decades, the power structure of Izral is fluid, at best. The Black Banner, an up and coming faction within the old Rebellion, aims to change this and has dispatched its most deadly warriors in an assault on one of Izral's precious Crystal Reactors, one of four that provide Izral with its powergrid. Claim the grid and you've effectively claimed a quarter of the city.

Assist the Black Banner or stop them, the choice is yours.

A Poor Son investigator was sent in to investigate Reverend Sturges and found no hidden coffers or coins, but reported that he believed Sturges' ledgers may hold the key as to where the money is hidden. The investigator requested permission to inspect the ledgers and was given leave to do so. There has been no word from him in over a month and he has yet to return to the Cathedral. The Masons are offering a reward to whomever collects and delivers the ledgers and will provide an incentive to those who can shed light on the fate of their investigator.
