ToL Lore and Recap: Read This Before Starting

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Tavern of Legend.  :andrew:

You should be reading this before continuing forward for the first time. The information contained in these first posts is also found on the initial post of the Tavern of Legend in concentrated form, whereas here it is fleshed out more deeply. Reading what is on the first post of the Tavern is all you need to get started (aside from reading the last post in this thread), but the following material might be desired if you wish to know more. These profiles will be updated as more information is uncovered during role-play. When the information is discovered, it is considered “knowable” as rumors will circulate over time. In all likelihood, no newcomer will know everything listed, but might know a few things while thinking they know others and be wrong—as rumors often lose truth along the way.

The last post of this thread will always be a summary of the current events at the tavern, which also should be read before continuing. This will tell you what exactly is happening in the tavern at the time you enter. Sometimes, everything is rather boring and all good, or the place might be on fire—who could say. It is best to know what you are heading into. If you want to see the history of the place, you can read the other posts as well, but only the last post is necessary.

If you have questions, comments, concerns, please got to the OOC Thread

[legend='Important- Read Before Posting']
The Tavern of Legend is an RP forum that is quasi-canon; nothing here is canonized as ‘world of Valucre’ lore, but it keeps track of its own lore. It is a place designed to help new people get comfortable and to prepare for entering the canon world, getting to RP with other new people and approved mentor staff, learning lore from the NPCs, practicing quests, opportunities for T1 training, etc. The purpose of this board is twofold: helping people get comfortable and mentoring people into RPing at a level closer to where established members are. By allowing posts that consist of few words, emoticons (used as part of the post, not as an OOC message) and even punctuation, we invalidate the reason for this area’s existence.

A couple of ideas were kicked around, and we’re going with the least ‘restrictive’ one we came up with, and hope this will bring about positive change and growth. From now on, any post that contains less than 20 words, the length of one average sentence, will be treated as spam and removed. The use of character names to denote who is doing the action (example--> Bill: Runs and hides), as well as emoticons, will not count towards this total. This board accumulates points, please write posts that help you earn those points. If you are need of help in lengthening posts, I would suggest reading the “Closing Thoughts” section of this Valucre Blog Update. If you still need help, feel free to contact me, Supernal, or a member of outreach for help.[/legend]

Update Post

As of the time of this post, future patron of the Tavern, you best be warned that not all is right with the place. Fire Elementals somehow found their way inside the tavern and began wreaking havoc, killing more than two dozen and bringing utter destruction the place. As of this post, there are still a handful of elementals left, as well as the leader who brought them there. The cook, a Gaian priest, is no longer able to fight. The Bouncer is exhausted and perhaps at half ability, while Vaddock the bartender is busy sealing the last rift. The head of wait staff, Levhea, is up and fighting still.

Some patrons have come together to help fight off the scourge and thanks to their brave efforts, the large majority of these foes have been vanquished. The leader of the group brought with him a mighty animal known as a Tinder Tooth, a giant beast whose ability to withstand damage amazed even the seasoned staff of the Tavern, but in the end they brought him down—only to find a rather insidious surprise.

The creatures explode when killed, in a matter similar to a thermonuclear bomb, only with perhaps .1% of the capacity (still more than enough to tear the flesh off your bones at close range). Thankfully, the priest was able to protect the patrons, but not much is left of the interior- though how the establishment still stands is a mystery.

Here is what you must know upon entry.

1. Various parts of the interior are on fire.

2. There is no furniture- it is all smoldering splinters.

3. A giant fire elemental, as well as 7 monk fire elementals and a 6 fairy like fire elementals are running around.

Good luck and enjoy.

Update Post

The fire elemental menace has been vanquished. Through a combined group effort, the last of the enemies as well as the “Big Bad” were successfully brought down and Vaddock was able to seal off the last rift. Things have moved on to the next day, where the tavern is much cleaner than the night before, though it still smells smokey. They have some temporary tables and chairs out, but good stuff is not in yet. The bar is pretty well stocked, but they are only sticking to easy to prepare foods for right now (Ghallen is still exhausted).

Update Post

A fierce battle did rage, and the consequences show to this day.

With the events of the fire elemental attack a distant memory, things returned to normal for the Tavern of Legend- at least for a time. One dreary day, as the music was playing and the merry were drinking, a rain-soaked man, covered in his own blood, came stumbling in. With nary the strength to carry himself across the bar, he felt to his knees and called for the owner. To Vaddock, he warned of the coming army, a legion of undead vast and powerful, accompanied by beasts and even a zombified dragon. He died shortly after, succumbing to his wounds before Ghallen had time to render aid.

The leader of this army, an old and powerful Lich Lord set on dominating the world of Valucre, demanded passage through the way-gates, promising no harm to befall anyone who would stand aside and let his army pass through. Vaddock, Levhea, Ghallen, and Lonely Night’s Hand knew this to be honeyed words with no basis. They also knew that should they allow this monster to take his brethren through to the other side, all of Valucre would face serious danger. They could not have that blood on their hands.

With a rousing speech and the promise of a week’s free drinks to any who should stand beside them, Vaddock led the would be defenders out onto the rain-sodden field of battle, holding fast in the face of great adversity. The army was vast, the creatures powerful, but here stood four of Valucre’s greatest champions ever produced, accompanied by other legends in the making. In the face of death personified, the handful of defenders readied their weapons and held firm. It was not long before a sea of the army’s foot soldiers overtook them, surrounding them with waves of old bones and rotten flesh.

The fight went on for hours. Everyone fought valiantly, providing whatever aid their could. Their numbers dwindled, but not their morale- no, never! Their fierce hearts would never let such odds get to them, for they had hope and glory resting upon their shoulders. Even in the worst moments, they never gave up. They held firm, they stood true, and slowly, slowly but surely, the army was pushed back, cut down, torn to pieces. The undead were losing, so they unleashed their dragon.

A terrifying beast with the breath of poisoned acid, it alone did more damage to their cause than any other did, but even then, they still pressed on. The others regrouped, reformed, they combined their talents and they fought hard, grounding the dragon and releasing its tortured soul. All that stood between them and that Lich lord now was his brutal generals, undead fiends of the most powerful kind. That fight was long and hard, but soon a breach was made, and together, the people defeated the mighty Lich, driving its soul back to the Phylactery from which it came.

The lasting ramifications were devastating. Trade lines were destroyed, fields burned and the people left with little food. The Tavern Flairy, a constant resident leftover from the Fire Elemental attacks, perished in the fight, as did a few of the old time staff- dying as they rescued poor souls caught in the midst of this gruesome battle. A monument dedicated to their losses, to their great sacrifices, remains in the Tavern to this day.

Current conditions

Some time has passed now. The roads are repaired, shops are reopened, and the first crops have flourished in spite of the damage. Ghallen removed the remaining toxins and things have mostly gone back to normal. A few are still haunted by what they saw, drowning their repeated nightmares in their cups, refusing to speak of anything from that day. Even the core staff speak little of it, the battle too horrific to revel as a past glory.

Every now and then, Vaddock stops by the monument to those lost and gives a little nod to the Flairy—once his enemy, and in the end a friend; it was a shame that they only became so in the creature’s final days.
