Black Rock Spider! [Quest]

The Black Rock Spider

A massive Black Rock Spider has slipped from the mountain side and into the Central Mining Enclave. While this is normally an off-limit zone to all guests, a one time pass and escort authorization order has been made to anyone daring to rid Morgana of this pest. It is important for normal activity to return to the enclave as soon as possible.

Quest Reward: Small Isradis Stone of your choice and 800 points split.[/BOX]

The desert city of Morgana shifts with the cool wind. The fine sand turned powder is enough to work itself into any crevices or openings that the people or the city has to offer. While the majority of the city seems to be nonchalant about it, for this is rather normal, a small commotion can be heard off in the distance. In the North East corner of the city, guards in black armor seem to be suiting up and rushing around. While the small hub-bub has gained the unwanted attention of several civilians, the guards are doing a miraculous job at keeping them away from what was happening.

A loud screech can be heard in the direction of the Mining Enclave. The noise rips through the air grabbing everyone's attention, and speculation starts to stir. It wouldn't take long for those to hear the guards over talking, or the people themselves to fancy their own rumors, before the word was spread across the entire city like a wildfire. A massive Black Rock Spider had come crashing down from the Mountain side, and scared enough, had taken refuge into the Mining Enclave. As the perimeter is secured, it seems that there is a man standing just off set of several men with spears pointing to the inside of the cave... keeping the beast from escaping.

Another man stands beside him with large glasses and a book, the two seem to be conversing in some depth. Without a doubt, it appears that the Knightly figure dressed in black, outfitted with a large sword upon his backside, is the one in charge. Smooth black hair rips from the top of his head and backwards. It's very clear that the other guards are looking up to him for instruction as they hold off on doing anything too reckless. For now, James continues to talk to the wide eyed man with the book, formulating and trying to figure out a plan to rid them of this pest.

Melo stood at the edge of the Mine watching the chaos and listening to the wind. The wind was ill here, it carried the sounds of terror and misfortune. It was a sad sight indeed. A creature had barricaded itself into the Mines and was know cowering within, The warriors of this city had surrounded the entrance but dared not enter and thus were cowering without. A battle of wills between two equally cowardly species. However in this world man was the dominant or was at least striving to be and thus the creature within would have to be annihilated, Such was the world.

Speaking as if to the very shadow around her, Perhaps she even was, Specifically to the large shadow standing near her.

Maria walks up to the mine dressed in her battle out fit. Her gloves both on and her Rapier in her hand. She carefully approaches the cave with Nyx. Even though Nyx is just a cat she had a feeling that Nyx was going to be quiet helpful. Maria knew what was in the cave but she was going to kill it. That she was sure over. As she approaches she sees many guards and Melo outside the cave. Maria walks up to Melo and says to her.

"Glad you could make it. I hope your ready this doesn't sound like something that's going to be easy."

Maria looks into the cave as if forming a plan of attack.

Grimm observed as he always did.Every town seemed to have itsown troubles its own life, its own mysteries. He took note of the guards took note of the large one with the dark hair and took note that he was debating with the scholor. It looked from the frown on the scholors face that he was losing the debate.Grimm,Melo, and Maria had been travelling together for a while now they had seen many of Genesaris's realms. When Grimm stood upon the land here he felt its age. Seemed older then most lands. It must have a marvelous history he thought to himself.Ruffling his wings slightly he heard Melo's words as he leaned upon his Massive War Scythe.

"Yes but is the most fear coming from the locals, the soldiers,or the poor spider they have barred into the mines?"

The Raven Seth perched upon Grimms shoulder chimed in with a crone.Grimm's eyes shifted this way and that under his dark hood looking to Melo then Maria, finally back to the guards.Shadows twisting and dancing, hissing and turning, about his robes as he did so,in their endless waltz

James would shift as his slate eyes settle on the visitors that had entered the perimeter of his guards. It seemed that they all were set on something, focused and prepared for the task at hand. If he hadn't had the chance to examine them from such a distance, he would have never guessed that they were here to help. They all looked like strangers, common travelers that pass through Morgana. Without much thought, James moves to leave the Scholar and approach the three.

"You three, what are your names?"

He asks them curiously before going on. "I am James, currently in charge here. We have a large female Black Rock Spider inside the Mining Enclave. The resources inside are precious to this nation and must be maintained at all costs..." He starts as he offers them all a sigh before his eyes land on the scholar who he left behind. Something stirred within him before he spoke once more to the three in front of him.

"Our local scholar has informed us that this Spider could possibly be pregnant, and she might be nesting inside to give birth to her offspring. While we would normally attempt to relocate the creature, these circumstances might not permit us to do so. It will kill you all if you're not careful, especially if it has its young ones inside. Approach with caution, and should you return victorious, come find me for a reward."

With these words, he leaves them to their own devices... hoping that they knew exactly what they were getting into. None the less, their names would be sufficient if they are to succeed, allowing their names to be etched into the Wall of Heroes within Morgana's history.

Melo listened to the man her expression the mask of disinterest she always wore, Although a twinge of disappointment was caused due to the fact that it appeared that not only would they be fighting 1 giant spider but many small ones as well, Melo while it was likely could kill several small spiders in a single well aimed shot disliked fighting many small foes, considering the practice a good way to waste ammunition.

Well there would be no helping it Melo had been given her task and be it by her gun or by her bare hands Melo would compete the task.

Heading to the entrance of the cave passing the guards and the scholar Melo paused at the very mouth of the mine to wait on her companions, Mel then pulled out  her sniper rifle and held it in her arms ready to fire.

"Melo is prepared to end all that lies within this place"

Maria sighs and starts to think. A bunch of small ones aren't a big problem but the fact there target would be alot more aggressive then normal since she was a mother. Maria says to her team.
"Okay we will need to be extremely cautious with this task. Melo since you are a scoutt you should go ahead and see what the area in front of us holds. Me and Grimm will go father in with you but we will stop at the spiders room and wait for your return."
She knew Melo would be able to get some data. They just needed to know the conditions with in the area.
"If you get into truble just call for us."

Grimm just blinked at Maria's suggestion for a moment. As she went on he realized she obviously had forgotten."Dear Maria, have ye forgotten Myself and Melo are attached by our crossed shadows she cannot travel any futher then the end of my shadow and i the end of hers. Also i suggest maybe talking to the scholor a bit more before we proceed. He knows about the beast we track knows its weaknesses knows its birthing habits knows the most likely place in this mine it would be.Never rush into a battle without knowledge of how to utterly cripple your foe".His gaze then left her and returned to Melo with a shrug.

Shadows still swirling and hissing about his visage as he took a step forward the heft of his Scythe dragging across the road before the rapping sound it made from slamming down once again with his weight upon it.Those lime green eyes glowing their somber glow as he thought to himself for a moment.Turning back to Maria he spoke."We could send Seth to scout when we go if that will be adequate?".With that he was quiet again lost in his own thoughts.

As James left them to advance at their own pace, the scholar couldn't help but overhear. Fumbling with his books and securing his large glasses, he runs over to the group. Panting rather obnoxiously, its clear that this man doesn't leave his desk too often to maintain optimal shape. His scrawny appearance is only fitting for a man who keeps his nose in the books. "Wait!"

He blurts out at them before stopping. If they were wise, they would listen to his words of caution and advice. "I ask you to please do your best to not kill them, but, but, but, I understand the dilemma. But please note that these spider's have skin tougher than rock. Normal attacks won't do much unless you find a soft spot. Understandably, wind would be the most effective element to use against her if such an ability was available. Likewise, fire will be completely useless."

Pausing, his glasses had fogged up. Taking them off, he uses his sleeve to clear them up before continuing once more. "If her little ones haven't hatched by now, you might have some chance of luring her out. But chances are, she will have heightened senses, frantic, and is unhesitating to protect its own." Looking back at the cave, he pulls his hand to dwell through his book once more, trying to see if he missed anything. "I think that's all... good luck..."

Melo watched her to companions without comment, Their conversation was of little consequence to her the obvious of course would on occasion require a restating, perhaps to some, It was less obvious. Melo spent a moment listening to the cave it shallow breaths coming from the very depths of Genesaris. The cave smelt damp and musky, the smell of subterranean life and death the stone its very own scent. The sounds coming from within were also very telling for those who could listen and had the capacity to differentiate sounds one would hear many sounds. First the most obvious was the wind flowing about the mouth of the mine creating a dull thrum that was felt in the bones as much as heard. then came the many drips of water that fell from the ceiling to the floor pitter pattering to the mines own rhythm. lastly the most haunting and unnatural  was the discordant clicks of the mandibles and joints of a creature within, these sounds forming a macabre sonata all it's own.

"Melo feels that the creature is deep within, By Melo's standard it will take 10 minutes of solid traversing to reach it's lair within, be wary of loud noises that will bring both the spider and perhaps the very mine crashing down upon us"

And with that Melo stepped into the bowels of the cave prepared to defeat the spider, either dead or alive by the end if this day Melo's mission will be accomplished.

Grimm watched the man with interest. When the man noted about not killing them that is what interested him the most.Any mother would go to extreme degree to protect their young to keep the line in tact agreed the spider had upset the natural balance of things coming here, but destroying them.He wished to hear more about transporting them else where maybe the balance could be restored here and the spiders could find peace somewhere instead of fear,in mens eyes leading to fear in beasts eyws, leading to a hand of judgement and death.Where was the balance in fear feeding more fear there was none.If the group was going to play the judge in this he at least hoped they shant have to kill the beasts unless there was no other choice. So with that he spoke up.

Is there any means to lull the beasts, sedate the beasts ye ask for us to find a means to not kill these Rockspiders as ye call them. Then give me logical respite as to what other options there are here that results in the outcome ye seek scholor"?His eyes glinted their somber lime his gaze staying upon that of the scholors for a time waiting for his response.Shadows seemed to even stop their tugging upon Grimms robes whilst he waited for the reply from the scholor.

Maria walks into the cave as quite as she can following Melo as carefully as she can. She says in a very quiet voice so that she doesn't agitate what lies below them

"So I'm think that a good course of action, seeing as how they don't want the beast killed, would be to try and weaken it so that they can come in and take it to its normal place of life."

She let that sink in for a moment and she thought about what he said. Fire won't damage it easily, she was curious to test this her fire wasn't normal and she had other things she could do to fight it but this worried her. She looks around as they walked there seemed to be some places she could destroy the wall if it came to that. She hopes it won't in fact she isn't even sure if that would stop the spider. As they approach there destination there's a loud noise from the spiders room as the sound booms through the cave Maria very quietly whispers to Melo.

"Look around the corner get a good look at the spider and tell me what you see I have some form of a plan but i need to know what the spider looks like"

With that Maria backs up to give Melo a chance to see whats there when she turns around she notices Grimm isn't there. She doesn't worry to much they were just gathering info on the spider.

The scholar listens as Grimm pushed for more info. It seemed that the Scholar was pleased, noted by the smile on his face, as a hint of sincerity for such a dangerous creature had been placed upon him. Thumbing through another page, presumably holding info on various creatures and herbs within Morgana, before his eyes widened with an answer.

"It says that the mother is actually over-protective of her young. There might be a way... hmm... If there are any unhatched spider eggs inside, they might be the key to luring her out. I suspect if you can get your hands on two or three of them, the female will instinctively chase after them... that might be your chance to lure her out and take her back into the woods. .."

A frown comes to his face as the logical action before him was struck with an issue within this possibility. "If you were to distract her enough to snag a few eggs, and lure her out, you would have to run almost a mile or so outside the city to insure safety... but, any young ones already spawned would no doubt follow her. Any eggs remaining can be handled by our own guards..."

The scholar wondered if the task would be too much for them to handle. Perhaps it would be easier for them to slaughter her instead. He knew that this wasn't his decision, but hoped that it would be considered with an open mind.

- - -

Inside the Mining Enclave, echoes could be heard as the spider's legs would tap against the rock floor. Like two rocks tapping together, accompanied by almost a dozen more tiny ones, filled the ears of all within. In the dark and damp mine, its massive dark shape could be made out as six red eyes stacked upon its head. The rumors and information given to them would prove to be true as its large body, almost ten feet high, moved like its body was made of stone. Finding a soft spot would not be easy.

Below the female Rock Spider rested six eggs unhatched. Surrounding those were at least a dozen more shells that were cracked and shattered, no doubt once holding the spawn of the rock spider. For now, the giant spider remains still above its nest, spider webs are formed around some of the other rocks making it difficult to maneuver or approach too much closer without being seen...

Melo still waiting slowly and methodically replaced the clip of normal rounds with her clip of armor piercing rounds weather Melo used them to attack vitals or to distract would be left to her companions who seemed to interpret the act of handling a dangerous target a little differently than Melo would normally attempt. And thus Melo waited continuing to listen to the silent sonata that came from the bowels of the mine,

"Confirmed existence of multiple targets more than ten beyond that estimations reach to approximately 30 moving targets,Melo's Directive for attack, Kill, Maim, Distract?"

Saying this Melo eyed her companions and the scholar and patiently waited for the paradigm fro the coming battle, the chances of bloodshed no matter the route taken would be high. But Melo was simply a bullet and would wait for someone to fire her before flying towards her target never wavering no matter the consequence

Maria says to Melo in a hushed voice.

"What else in the room is notable, Melo? Look for anything that can be used for cover or as a good place to hide like a cave that they won't fit in."

Maria didn't want to attack yet this wasn't the time for that. Her first plan was to gather info and head back up, no more, no less. As she waited for a response from Melo she looked around the room it appeared to be covered in spider webs that could halt any progress they would make. She could fix it easily but if she did that now it would give away there hiding spot. She decided she would do that as they left.

She went back to scanning the room. As she did she noticed that she structuring was weak. She thought that possible the webs were there to keep the room from falling but that wasn't very likely the rest of the cave was like that, minus the webs, but this room could be a little bit weaker. If the couldn't escape then maybe Melo or Maria could cause a cave in but that is a last resort option as it could kill some of the spiders.
