Alterion AMA

Recommended Posts

This thread is to ask the creators of Alterion anything you've wanted to know about the board. If you've perused through the lore and threads (see:Alterion Walkthrough Section)of the section and still have questions about getting started or are just generally curious (whether the lore/etc didn't contain enough information), you can post a question  here to have it answered directly.

Alterion is a collaborative creation of myself and Syncopy.

If there's anything you've wanted to know, as the lore page is still in disarray (so busy, sorry), feel free to ask!

Regional Information, such as a map, and others (like the one above) will supply you with an idea of your location, where others might be at based off of the grid-work the maps provide and allow you to take over regions for your own devices.

Regional Influence:

This is a concept that we have used in the past and are working to implement now, once more in Alterion.

The idea is based on post counts and activity in Alterion.

1. As is everything else with Valucre, we will offer a "month-long" placeholder of an area on the map for 100vB. That placeholder starts from the moment I receive the vB and it will hold the account for exactly 30 days. On the 30th day, at the same time that you placed the order (sent the pm + vB) the offer will expire.

2. Your placeholder cannot be in an area already taken (highlighted in the map above). These are "conflict" zones, which will require RP to take over.

3. Your placeholder is designed to give you one month to generate 30 posts. That's a post a day or less with friends, in order to "establish" yourself in the region. What this means is that you're looking for land. Those squares are 100mi x 100mi. I realize that, that is a lot of space for one person, but I'm not willing to chop the grid any smaller, because then it will just get ridiculous. Potentially, further down the road, if someone wants to make a multi-staged conflict more off of a gaming platform, I will take the 100mi cubes and break them into 25mi segments in order to war within a square for influence.

4. Tricky business:

I'm still working on the platform details for the Conflict Influence Zones, but I think it will be on par with your friends. I'll be discussing this more with my team and we'll get back to you guys on this. It's going to have to be something team-based in order to combat with influence while working in unison with the storyline, but will need a cap in order to not make the Influence war just entirely too stupid.

4a. Potentially, your influence will count for more, the more threads you have in a region.

Example: Cross has ... 10 threads with more than 30 posts in them, officially offering Cross 10 Influence in VFI.

Your Conflict Influence would be 1:10, or 2:10 with a friend, which means you would need to establish Influence elsewhere in Alterion to combat this.

As I said, it's a work in progress.

Not really sure on climate. Cosanastre is prerty mild. It tends to be more dry than humid and doesn't feel the sting of winter as bad as some of the other locations do.

Cosanastre is a bit of a jack-of-all trades. Daius Industries is primarily a weapons company, but has its hand in textiles, pharmaceuticals, as far as agriculture there's a lot of rice and other small grains.

The names should be in the lore articles for the organizations, but the head of the Justicar and the Poor sons are instantly rognizable. They spend a great deal of
Time speaking to the public. Other well known figures would include the Zodiak Brave. They're the Cosanastran equivalent of Terrenus' Peacekeepers. Edited by paradigm

Had some Frequently asked questions I want to add here:

Does each sub-forum only deal with their individual city? (Ie. Does the Cosanastre board only focus on dealings within the city?)

No, boards deal with specific regions. Alterion has three city-states that are large enough to be their own nations. The sub-forum deals with each location's specific region. You can still post a fight in a meadow in the Cosanastre board, just as you can post a meeting in a tavern in the Arkadia Prime board.

What's the general setting of Alterion?

Alterion is a blend of dark science fantasy and horror. There are certainly modern and futuristic elements, at play. You'll see motor cars, you'll also see horse(and various other creature)drawn carriages. You'll see men in doublets and men in jerkins alongside men in business suits. You'll see a man in a suit of armor. It's common for people to utilize swords and other bladed weaponry as guns (as is the case with most RP) aren't tried and true methods of stopping an attacker. If you're looking for some motivation to go off of it as a blend of FF7, Devil May Cry, Game of Thrones and Full Metal Alchemist. There's inspiration drawn from various other series and fandoms, but these are the most prevalent.

Does Alterion use magic?

It does, but Alterion doesn't call it's magic 'magic.' Magic in Alterion is referred to as 'Alchemy.' Alterians (the people) have a natural affinity for mana/aether/chakra (whatever you want to call the energy source necessary to make something spectacular happen)but primarily utilize spell crystals, or archaic runes/symbols in alchemic formulae to achieve the desired results. People with magic are not persecuted against, but if you utilize a method that can't be explained in a way the Alterian populace can easily understand (oh, it's my wand that's magic. Oh, it's just like your alchemy, we just call it this) there's a chance someone will want to study you.

What's the political climate in Alterion?

Tumultuous. Ocelot Royce has conquered Arkadia Prime and has set his sights on Izral. Meanwhile, in Cosanastre the leaders of the Sectors (large city-sized portions of Cosanastre ruled by regents) have yet to prove their loyalty to their new leader, leaving their positions precarious, at best. Up and coming individuals can pick off cowardly or rebellious regents and secure their own regime of power.

I'm thinking this would be the best place to ask this question, though I acknowledge there may actually be a Valucre-wide, hard policy on it.

I realize that the general default of Valucre when it comes to content is to keep it... well, non-explicit. (I'm a bit fuzzy on exactly where that line falls.)

With Alterion in particular, however, there's a lot of dirty dealings and crime, and in Cosanastre's Sector 5 there are whore houses and slaves.

It's been suggested that explicit content can in some circumstances be... overlooked, let's say, if not allowed.

What is the policy within Alterion in general, Cosanastre in particular? I'd like to include explicit content with the concession that it's hidden in spoiler tags, because while I have no qualms RPing such content privately I don't want to make it inaccessible to those interested in the stories of the characters involved. I'd also be willing to include a warning in the thread's title, though I would note that in practice this would likely turn out to be more of a giant blinking arrow than a stop sign.

It's allowed to the same degree that it is anywhere else on the site. You shouldn't need spoiler tags or anything unless you think it's so explicit that it violates the site-wide policy (in which case you probably just shouldn't be posting it period). There's no rules on this specific to Alterion or Cosanastre.

There's no limitations on gore that I'm aware of. The policy on sexually explicit content is more lenient than you might think as well. The standard that the staff said they use is basically if you're writing very straightforward porno in text format with explicit labeling of body parts and such, that would not be allowed, but basically anything shy of that is allowed. You just have to at least try to be tasteful about it. I've found scenes depicting violent sex, gang rape, etc., which I was really surprised were considered okay, but they are out there and not censored or anything.
