The Fallen Angels: The Merging Of A Covenant

Yohane - The Wind Snake.

"I'm bleeding. I think it'll be eight weeks without using any power." It ends to concentrate power in the Spear, and the concentrated plasma in the sky begins to move intensely. Yohane was using his "High-Speed Magic Lightning Cannon", ie using Telesma to create a much stronger and destructive lightning. But that was only the start of magic itself. "Hahaha. HAHAHAHA, HIE-HAHAHA!" He points to Lance to heaven, as she smiles brightly. "Feel the power of a weakling, you fools magicians!" The concentrated energy is thrown into the skies, precisely where the plasma was concentrating. A cascade effect is created, and the plasma falls towards his Lance along with Telesma released. Yohane starts bleeding more intensely, and all the energy stored in Lance begins to precipitate. Still targeting the Lance to the heavens as he prepares to shoot towards the skies. "HsmlcWEAKLINGhcka!!!" A consecutive energy is thrown to the skies in the form of a cannon measuring 5 by 5 meters. All that accumulated energy is concentrated, vaporizing all the clouds in a region of 50 by 50 meters and creating a very rapid precipitation on the ground. Yohane, instantly, falls to the ground and starts bleeding throughout the body, passing out after a few seconds looking at his own pool of blood on the ground, extending through the ground itself.

Sirey stopped, her hand already holding the silver out to Beth as Jackson stepped in front of her and handed his silver to The Halfling in her place. She was shocked, and idly put the silver back into her bag, her eyes studying him curiously. She was quite capable of paying for her own potions, it wasn't like she was a child. But she kept her mouth shut, knowing he was only trying to be friendly. She wasn't used to people being friendly to her, and didn't know if she liked it all that much. This meant that she owed him and the thought of owing anybody anything bothered her. She wondered why he was being so nice to her, but she didn't say anything on the matter. It was a conversation best saved for a latter date. "Thank you," she says quietly, concentrating on putting her new goods away so that she didn't have to look at him, not wanting him to guess at her uncertainness. One thing he had said stuck out to her, and she had to correct him. "You didn't scare me. I was only being careful... Cautious, not scared. There's a difference."

She hoped she wasn't coming off harsh, but she didn't want anyone thinking she was weak. At the mention of food, her stomach growled. She hadn't ate since noon, and the thought of a home-cooked meal with people Jackson considered family made her nervous. Family dinner was something she had participated in rarely. When she was a child, her parents had always been too busy to think of gathering around a table with those they held dear. It wasn't that they hadn't wanted to, they just didn't have the time. Taking care of the three children they had caused them to have multiple jobs. They barely got to see each other at all.

“Oh he’s still his curious mischievous self.  Got a new homunculus tha’s a wonder with his brother’s and sisters, and he’s still working on trying to discover a new way to infuse water essence into Silversteel, but my oldest is much the same. He’ll be overjoyed to see you again, and you know you’re always welcome.” While many folks were well aware of the relationship between Beth and Milnerd Sarcayre Aydene Nichopoko, not so many were aware of the exact nature of that relationship.  The apparent thirty something adult single male Halfling was in fact Beth’s eldest son. Her husband Marcus Ayder Aydene Nichopoko had met his untimely end at the hands of bandits on his way back from Tia.  Thus, Milnerd took over as second patriarch of the Nichopoko clan, and first male of the Aydene family. He had four brothers and five sisters to think about after all.  So, Milnerd   also filled the roll of chief potion maker, while he slowly increased his artificing and alchemical skills. He and Jackson went back a ways.

“Lylla and Synthia will want to see you too, and make sure you eat for two.  We can put your friend, Sirey wasn’t it? Yes, we can put Sirey up in one of the guest rooms, heaven knows we have plenty of the empty now that the Edenborrows aren’t staying with us.

“Is it that obvious?  My sister’s construct probably gave it away….  “The half elf posed in mid sentence, and his head turned slightly as one does when examining some art exhibit or item that they desire to study with some care.  Gregor   could easily discern, being a necromancer himself, the flickers of arcanic energy alteriing, as the half-elf was Assensing Gregor – viewing the natural auras that Gregor emitted as both a living being and as a mage.  “So a fellow practitioner, but better able to control his natural essences.” He said after a moment, as he past the blind man’s walking stick from hand to hand.  “The Peacekeepers are always looking for a man of your talents; we are quite useful in solving murders.  I currently serve in that capacity. He gives Gregor a mannerly half bow, “Leylen ænderilen is my name, and pray tell who you might be?”  It was not meant to be an interrogation, just a simple question nothing more. The half elf shot the shambling rosebush a withering glare then, as if silently commanding it to keep its distance, which it did.

[box]In reply to Devin #44 icon_share.png[/box]

“Good sir are you all right, do you require healing?” There was that female’s voice again, and concern fully interlaced the harmony of her speech. A hand grasped his wrist to aid him in rising. It was a paradox that hand, worn and tough along the fingers, but as smooth as a babe’s along the palm.  Auras touched, intermingled, and rebounded in the effortless dance of two magi in physical contact. The seer learned things about the half-elf, which she had never shared with him, things she did not even know.  The world mind shared knowledge with the sightless man that tread in its murky depths. For Devin’s power was unreserved and unbound, allowing him to always see, even when he did not see, for his sight was merely a different action those with working eyes.

Gregor liked the man. He was polite, not a jerk, and they practiced the same magic. Those of the same magic were sort of like brothers, or a guild might be a better term. They usually had each others back. And this man looked like the kind that would watch your back.

'Thank you.' 'My name is Gregor prophet,' Gregor said, returning the half bow. 'So, you work with the peacekeepers you say?' 'Say, are there any job openings in the peacekeepers right now?' Gregor was looking for an income of sorts so he could finally travel around the lands and settle down one day and start a family. Just as his grandfather had. That was, if he ever found a girl to settle down with, Gregor thought.

[box]In reply to Delistair & Lancaster Axel Pargent    #43 icon_share.png [/box]

One of the most saddening truths about so many magi is that never engage in the creative process of arcanic creation.  They never write spell formula. They never engage in planer mechanics, advanced warding, upper grade binding or Essence extractions.  They merely continually utilize the same hexes, enchantments, arcomechanics that they learned during their earliest Novicshiet over, and over, and over again.  This however was clearly not that.  This was a clear case of necessity being the mother of invention.

A lovely baby it was.

A city with a long and illustrious history witnessed a new form of alternative transit, which to be sure had many a personage gazing upon the pair as they strode past. Many a glare was shot the pair’s way by dapper dandies with their jackets of Lenin and tweed with rings on their fingers and brass and silver chained money purses hung next to daggers that rarely saw use. Happy Halflings in vests of midnight green and leaf green and sea green with buttons of pine and Malachite and Celadon glanced up at the pair and grinned – Halflings always love a good show. More than one of the immortal folk was perceived gazing upon the pair, there many hued eyes and many hued garb and faeish features making them easy to spot among the throng.  Many a nod was cast there way, for they too like the judicious use of magic, still some elves frowned, for they held mortals as being an impatient lot, and this a clear sign of it. Here and there, near and far, orc and half-orc dwarf, ogre, troll, and more humans than one could count in diverse garbs glanced at the pair overhead, and all wore their opinions on their faces.  Some of them were pleased by the show, a half-orc lad of indeterminable age even waved.  Then as strange as it seemed, the pair were rained upon for a few seconds, it wasn’t long, and its presence was passing strange.  Soon though, the giant tree and its pagoda base came into view.  Given the pair’s approach, they were coming at the place from the side, not front or rear, and would be soon forced to return to paving turf, or risk being snagged by the branches of  the short fruit trees and tall bushes that served to form a kind of living fence round the property on this side.  As they would disembark their magical platform they would here music, rather lovely music, carried on the breeze.  The player, whoever they were, must be nearby.

Delistair cast short overlapping defensive wards one over another while he and Lancaster ran over the top of people's heads. It was a little like climbing a rope, putting one hand over the other, alternating continuously. They were halfway across when the heavens suddenly opened and rained like someone dumping a bucket of ice water down on them. Delistair was startled by the abrupt change in weather, and almost missed casting the next ward. He stumbled, but caught himself in time. It wasn't as if falling through would kill him, but it would definitely waste time, and besides, it would be extremely embarrassing. Then, as sudden as the rain began, it stopped. There was something strange about all these occurrences happening on this night.

As the two neared their destination, the crowd thinned out. There was a limit to Delistair's magic; he had to cast his wards on a target, not in mid-air, and he was rapidly running out of targets. "I can't keep the path going anymore.. Jump off here!" he told the man behind him, and leapt to the ground himself. "Ha.. Hahaha!" Delistair laughed in relief in between gasps of breath, "I didn't actually think that would work so well!"

Delistair looked up at the dark unlit pagoda ahead, topped with an ancient great tree, just like what he had been shown in the vision. It was an intriguing structure, unlike anything he had ever seen before. Even in the darkness, he could make out the carvings on the hourglass-shaped columns. Some were shaped like animals, others like beasts of lore, and yet others were unidentifiable. He wondered what manner of things could be found within. "We can get through by a small gate at the rear," he told Lancaster, as he started off in that direction.

He couldn't say exactly when it was that he noticed the soft, exotic music being played. It had a slow, slippery melody, and reminded Delistair of snake charmers and veiled dancing women. The musician stepped out from in between the trees, a cloaked figure playing on a long bamboo flute. He or she walked out to the road Delistair and Lancaster was travelling on, obviously addressing them, never stopping the music. Delistair halted his steps, wary of this stranger lurking about in these peopleless parts.

A hand grips Devin's wrist above the ivory bracelet and aids him in rising, soft but firm.  Colors like a summer rain begin smearing themselves across Devin's dark eyes, blindingly brilliant.  This had never happened before, an experience completely foreign to the young man newly awakened into the world.  The hand's owner spoke in a melodic voice, inquiring as to whether Devin required healing.

"No, milady, I haven't need for healing," Devin says shakily before squeezing his eyes shut in a somewhat successful attempt to block out the light.  "Thank you for asking."  As his voice trails off, the colors in his mind slowly fade to blackness, and a relieved smile appears on his face as he opens his faintly glowing eyes.

-----

Devin opens his Eyes.  Light filters down through the canopy to land in splotches across the leaf-strewn ground.  The sweet scent of moss wafts through the air, Devin's nostrils stretching to their full diameters to take in the scent he associates with the goddesses cave.

Ahead stands a woman swathed in leaves.  She was not so much dressed in them as the plants simply growing on her.  Upon closer inspection, one might find that they do not so much grow on her as from her, their roots embedded in her skin.  Her pointed ears protrude from within a wreath of holy gently perched on her head.

The wreath fills Devin's Sight, growing until it is the only thing he Sees.  Such beauty and life emanate from the object that Devin finds himself shuddering in some form of ecstasy.

But the leaves begin to wither, blood drips from the fruit, the crimson liquid quickly covering the leaves.  The blood is now on the elf, chained and on the verge of death.  Slowly she is consumed by the plants that live on her life force, a fate most unpleasant to behold.

-----

Devin opens his eyes.  The Blackness is a relief after the gruesome images he has just witnessed.

It seems as if Devin was able to retain his footing this time, thanks, no doubt, in no small part to the hand supporting his wrist.

Devin now understands what the goddess meant when she claimed he would lose his sanity.  Shaken to his core after a single vision of darkness to come, Devin also realizes his place in the world.  He must help brighten the future.  One soul at a time, if he must.

Taking the elf's firmly soft hand in both his, Devin speaks to her with an earnest tone, pleading her to heed his words.  "There will come a time when something amazing will come to you.  I know not what or when, only that you must be wary, for all power comes at a price, and this one particularly high."

There had been a stiffening at his sudden movements, but Devin prays the elf heeds his words, for he felt that to be simply a bystander watching as Fate unraveled this person's life would be a torture worse than any contrived punishment in this life or the next.

Back and forth, back and forth, each time slightly faster the stick bounced from hand to had in the half-elf necormancer’s grip.  “I don’t know for sure, but I will speak to the chief inspector, something will come of it, of that I am certain. Where in the city you will be asigned, and under whom I can’t say.  It will be a day or two I fear, “ he says, a slightly troubled look crossing his features, as a sudden inspected, but very short burst of rain splaters the quartet.  “Some foolish magi is playing at rain spells again, “ he mutters clearly anoyed.  “At any rate, in the mean time, I hear a halfling lad named Milnerd Aydene is looking for a skilled necromancer for a small job, very simple I hear, and the pay is good.  A real piller of the Halfling community is Milnerd.  At any rate, I’ll check into the positions available and inform you, where are you stay…”    The elf cuts off in midsentence and glances his sister’s way, and in clearly concerned tones states , “Elena? Aisteoireacht bealac h aynina ceart?  Tæryea beannacht carson ceàrr oibriche?”

[i] Elena? Are you well? Why are you blessing that man in such a manner, what has he done to warrant so?[/i]

The words were in the flowered tongue of the elf, and if Gregor was unsure of the words, the tone alone conveyed confussion and quizicalness.  Gregor might turn to see the she-elf kissing the blindman on both eyebrows and both cheeks, in a sign of high praise, if a bit familiar in that praise.

[box]In reply to Devin  #53 icon_share.png[/box]

The blind man could not see, but he could no doubt feel the shudder that came over the half-elf holding his hand. “A seer,” she states with no small amount of  auh in her voice.  “I have heard of such, but never before met one of your kind. Please, tell me what did you behold, please.” Perhaps it is the strain her voice, or the slight increase in tension of her hand, or maybe it is some force outside both her and Devin, but the seer tells her what he has seen, and when he is finished, he hears very softly, “bless you with eyes never meant to see what mere mortles see.” Then she feels a kiss placed on both eyebrows and both cheeks. If Devin had any doubts of anyone seeing this unexpected display of affection, the male elf’s words informed that someone indeed had.

“This deviner has just given me an important warning Leylen, a warning that could have just saved my life… it will seem that I will need to find a new tutor, as the one I currently have is ill suited for me. We shall speak more on that later. “

"Ah, all forms of music is music to my ears," breathed Lancaster. He began looking around the surroundings for the source of music. The two of them had somehow landed in a grove of trees, and what laid ahead was the tower that they had both seen. With its intricately carved columns that instilled a sense of awe and fear into its viewer, he heard his eventual roommate mention moving to the rear gate of the tower in order to enter. "Sure thing," he said. Just as he was about to move off, he saw where the source of music had come from. Looking at the cloaked figure with his flute out and playing, Lancaster strode forward, and extended his hand in greeting, trying to shake the hand of the cloaked man. "Hi there," he said loudly. Behind his back, Lancaster's other hand was beginning to stroke the handle of a throwing blade should the chance meeting go south.

"Why... Why me..." K thought about her sister, and started to daydream... Suddenly, a voice said: "Hi there". She was disappointed, why will someone say something to her? Anyway, she stopped playing her flute, and slowly moved the hood that was covering her face. She walked close to the man who was trying to shake her hand, and, slowly, she shaked it. She noticed that the man was preparing a dagger, so she fell back some steps, raising her hands... "No... no please... I did nothing bad! Leave me alone!" She created a small ice wall, and hid behind it, praising someone to survive that encounter...
She tried to calm down, and grabbed her flute again. "I hope this works..." She played her flute again, with a melancholic melody, and a relaxing tempo...

The musician slipped the hood off, revealing a strange-looking young woman with snow white skin and crimson hair. What disturbed Delistair most was her irises, pale to be almost white, like horror stories of lore. Instead of attacking them, however, she panicked and put up an ice shield, and played a slow, sad melody. If Delistair wasn't calm before, he was now. He put a hand on Lancaster's arm, signalling to him that there was no need for a weapon. Then he called out to the musician, "Don't worry miss, we don't mean any harm. It is dangerous for you to be out here alone at this time, however. Would you happen to be heading for the pagoda as well? Could you tell us what is inside?" He figured that if this woman knew exactly what the pagoda held, at least they would be prepared when they went in.

She stood up, and slowly walked close to the man that was preparing a weapon. She felt better when she discovered that the weapon was not there, so she was safe. That man was asking her information about the pagoda, so she must answer that question. She grabbed the arm of the man standing in front of her, and froze it. She was now able to talk to him. “Just like you, I don’t know anything about this pagoda. I arrived here some days ago, just passing through. But… I feel something familiar inside that pagoda… so… if you could take me with you… I will thank you a lot…”  She defrost his arm, and gently rubbed her arm, waiting…

Oh musician with snow hued skin so fair, what answers are not given you to bare. To have some for knowledge means that one could plan, could strategize responses, could organize a series of responses and counter responses to predicted events and happenings.  How then does one plan for an ambush. For the sudden arrival of forces that were past your picket lines before the warning called could be cried. This was an abrupt, complete, and utter destruction of preconceptions.  The predator in the jungle that ‘aint no man.’ This was the series of incidents that formed the gestalt of rocket powered nightmare fuel.

That of course was part of the reason why they were selected, the reason for why they were split into groups, even though the current trio was entirely unaware of it. There comes a time in the lives of us all when we must willingly jump into circumstances that are beyond us. There comes a moment when we must take on a task for which one is entirely unprepared.  There comes a time when the soul of a being, all beings, must enter into a time of testing. One never has the fortune of picking the moment, it picks you. Oh, here the silence of a thing that only truly becomes visible and clear to understanding after it has past, and like landscape after the tempest, nothing is the same again.  This is what it is meant to walk upon the edge of a blade… you can’t do it without being cut. Those that truly wish to be more than they are, to find their individual boundaries, to shift those boundaries, to transform the character of their innermost selves, they must run along the raiser blade of circumstance.  They must run despite the pain that the wounds it shall cause.  They must be willing to run alone, if need be. They must be willing to run while mocked, if need be. They must be willing to run, forsaking riches, family, or fame.  They must be willing to run.  May their blood protect the nation, may their blood enrich the nation, and may their blood shelter the nation.  For the goodness of themselves and for the betterment of all, they must run.  The question was, were those selected of the inner metal, the internal fortitude to endure the tasks set before them? Well, that was the question wasn’t it.  Of course, the more immediate question was, how long would it take them to realize this and make their way inside.

'Oh alright,' Gregor said nonchalantly. Gregor didn't think much about his response, he was too busy thinking. He had never heard of milnerd, but he wasn't exactly a thriving part of the social community. If the peace keeper thing didn't happen, then this was a source of income. He was hoping to move out of school boarding by next fall. He noticed the elf stop in mid-sentence at the sight of his sister seemingly blessing Devin. He blushed a little at the sight of Devin getting kissed. 'Great, first the girl of been around for 5 months gets asked out to dinner, this guys getting kissed by random people!' gregor thought.

Trying to regain his composure he said, 'Right now 'm living on the magic schools grounds, but you can go up there after class hours.' 'Also, I've never heard of milnerd, but if Milnerd has a job, i'm interested.' 'Where does milnerd live?' Gregor asked.
