Moonskull Palace; The Search for Otherworld Blades

Recommended Posts

Kazuhiko listened to the pull of the gates and walked ahead of Amaranth. He didn’t answer her right away and focused on the grounds in front of them. From what he saw, no figure attempted to attack, or maim them. He turned the hilts in his calloused hands in agitation and waited for something, or someone to appear, then realized they were on their own. To enter the palace and challenge the Elder, all they had to do was walk up those stairs. It all seemed so anti-climatic, but perhaps the fight would be more entertaining.

He focused on her words then and questioned her motive in helping him.  He walked up the stairs and felt an older presence, but couldn’t discern where it was originating from. The palace would be like a maze to the travelers, unless Amaranth would escort them to the Elder themselves. He motioned with a sarcastic gesture and urged her forward. There was no time to waste. The blade rested somewhere in the chambers of the palace, but if he had been the first one to challenge the Elder, then this should be one Hell of a fight.

Tension folded and excitement overtook his body. It flowed through his veins, the shadow morphed around him and the edges tapered off into a translucency. There was no sense in hiding himself, so he decided to put his presence out there and challenged the Elder with a youthfulness.

he found himself standing center in the entryway. The markings of violence were etched into the cold marble of the floor. The sounds of his footsteps echoed against the red walls, that shattered the omnipresent silence. He found himself standing center in the entryway and looked down to see a brilliant sunburst pattern against the marbled floor design. Marbled pillars towered over Kazuhiko and Amaranth, each one laid out in a specific order.

From his perspective, it appeared to be some sort of creation for a ritual, but he could only assume in the moment.

“I’d tell you good luck with that.” He smirked at her and kept his eyes focused on any unfamiliar form that threatened to overwhelm them. Why didn’t the Elder emerge, or were they drawing them further into the depths of the palace so they couldn’t escape?

Kazuhiko stood his ground and gained his footing. His katana’s positioned, he called out for the Elder. If he didn’t show himself soon, Kazuhiko considered searching for the blade himself and ignoring the presence altogether.

"Well aren't you the sly one. You don't think I could take her? Or do you have some special relationship with the half breed? I don't think she'll take kindly to you taking her family blades."

Amaranth cooed as they walked into the castle. Their footsteps grazing the cool cold marble floor as they echoed throughout the castle. But here, the artifact stood as she looked around. She was puzzled. She had never been here before and the maze like castle was something new, added.

"So, more rats come crawling into my castle to seek something they don't have the right to." Said a voice bouncing off the walls of the rooms. "Brave or foolish I don't see why you came here when it is in vain."

"Oh good, a hide and seek game. I'm guessing we have to go through your maze." Amaranth said with a sigh. "Why do you idiots have to do it the hard way?"

The elder said nothing more as he disappeared into the deep bowels of the castle. Amaranth didn't like mazes. She then walked ahead as she didn't know which way to go or what was coming next to the two.

"I guess we need to find the maze and then the elder. Ugh. What a night."

Kazuhiko shook his head at the turn of events. No, he wasn’t going to go searching for some rotting old man in a tomb somewhere. He had better shit to do. The demon growled and spun Amaranth toward his chest, with the blade pressed tight against her throat. She was a living artifact, which meant he could destroy her and the Elders progress. If she meant anything at all, her death would be surmountable in the grand scheme of things. He whispered an apology in her ears and braced himself for the presence of the Elder. If the situation turned drastic, he could spill some of her blood and possess her for a short time to heal her wounds. In essence, he could allow her to become demonic alongside with him.

His stance secured, he called out for the Elder and threatened to spill her blood over the sunburst marbled floor. It was there for a reason, so perhaps she was the key to it all. A living artifacts blood would be worth something in a ritual.

“Come to me, or she dies and I kill both of you tonight.” He muttered, aware of the all encompassing presence that lingered. There were eyes watching them and his actions, which he wanted to create a sense of urgency.

Amaranth felt him grab her as she was shocked. The time was dwindling and they had to find the sword. But as Kazuhiko brought the sword to her neck, fear encroached her, building slowly like a wave. What was he planning? Yevon could send anyone out to fight him and she could still end up getting hurt. But Amaranth always wondered if the children allowed their living artifacts to die.

"What are you doing?" She whispered as she didn't know what would happen next. "Do you think he'll come out here for me?"

Amaranth looked down knowing her heart, though not alive, was beating hard. She was with someone trying to egg on a crazy elder. Though it would be interesting to see how this played out. Though she hoped she wouldn't die in this. Looking up, the elder stood there. Yevon's arms crossed against his chest.

"You must be a fool to think I care what you do to her. I'd be happy to just get rid of the rogue artifact. But that's impossible. I'm just not goimg to give you the sword. And you don't even look like you can handle me."

The elder laughed as he looked at Kazuhiko. He wasn't taking the man seriuosly.

"Go ahead, will you slice her to pieces? Rid us all of that pesky artifact once and for all? Then we can use her in the ritual to bring forth the blade."

Kazuhiko kept Amaranth close, his arm positioned underneath her breasts, while he kept the other blade against her skin, regardless of the Elders provocation. The actions would be regrettable, but for the greater good. He sliced Amaranth, but in an area that could be healed after the battle. He wasn’t bluffing in front of the Elder and he had no intentions of creating some sort of bond with Amaranth. Her words, her own actions, would go against deaf ears. Amaranth’s blood was like a spark that would ignite a series of events. Once the blood pooled in the grooved lines of the sunburst, he would watch it spark with a brilliant transparent flame. The phoenix-colored flame would engulf all of them in a single sweep. The action of this was meant to distract the Elder and catch him off guard. Amaranth’s blood would still be thick on the blade, which he would thrust toward the Elder’s chest to wound. His other blade arced back and slashed forward toward the Elder’s neck. From what he had learned, there was a possibility of the event rendering the effects of the Elder, or at least creating a big enough diversion.

His demonic vision enabled him to see through the flash of reds and oranges, his gaze fixated on the Elder who continued an attempt at protecting itself from his ongoing attacks. Kazuhiko spun forward and listened to Amaranth’s body fall with a soft thud. Calmness flooded in his veins and certainty invaded his mind. Thunderous thoughts of triumph overwhelmed previous passiveness, so all he focused on was the inevitable strike against the Elder. Amaranth would be forgotten, for a brief period, but he’d remember her when his boot crossed over her pools of blood. There was no anger toward the Elder, but an understanding of his greater purpose: to destroy. The Elders were here before him, for years they were unaware of his existence until now and from his current actions, Kazuhiko knew that he would be unforgettable in these lands.

“The blade is mine, or you join Amaranth.” His bloodied blade motioned toward the still form of Amaranth. The area awash in radiance, she looked otherworldly, the light creating an eerie silhouette of her feminine form.

Yevon laughed then. It was a cold and cruel laugh. The blade had slashed through the artifact and she fell to the ground. Of course it wouldn't be that easy to kill her. But the pretense of the action was all that mattered at the moment. And though one of the slashes hit his chest, he had grabbed the other one coming towards him. The red blood coursing down the sword as he looked at Kazuhiko.

"Well, it's foolish to think you'll just get the blade. You see it's mine. And I'm not going to just hand it over to some upstart brat who thinks he's foolishly brave. Now, that the little artifact is out of the way, we can begin the battle."

The elder pushed Kazuhiko back as he let go of the blade. The splashes of red and orange didn't bother him as he knew that this fight would be something unbearable. He snapped his fingers as a few higher up vampires appeared and charged at Kazuhiko with swords blazing. Slashing in every direction at his body they would try to chop him up.

"You're as dumb as that stupid princess who came in here and thought she killed me too. I don't get any of you at all. Why fight me when we can team up together and take over the land. Kill him!"

The order would have been easier to follow upon if these warriors weren't bad at their fighting skills. After he watched them falter, Yevon cursed as he closed his eyes and the ground began to shake and groan. The group be opening up as a beast like hellion cane crawling forth. The vampire grinned. He pointed at Kazuhiko and told it to crush him. It fumbled it's way towards the man as the ground shook with each step. A giant club swung down at Kazuhiko.

"Now die like the rest of those Athenthian bastards." He cried.

Kazuhiko rolled to miss the blades and grab the fallen form of Amaranth. He pushed her toward safety and mentally connected with the shadow plane, in order to open up a small pocket to slide her into against the marbled floor. She would find herself in a strange new land, which mirrored her own, but was darker in contrast by shape, form and idealism. Everything in the shadow plane would be alien and eerie. If she were conscious, which was doubtful by her current wound he gave her, she would have seen strange creatures inspect her, then skitter off into darkness. The atmosphere would be cold, unforgiving and unsafe for any other being to enter. However, she would benefit from her being in the shadow plane. The Elders wouldn’t be able to touch her and he could go to her after the battle.

He struck blade against blade and sliced toward a vampire who was quick on the balls of their feet. Kazuhiko was resilient enough and was able to block out the words the Elder spoke to him. Words were meaningless. Kazuhiko was all about action and he provided such in the next round of attacks.

His swords clashed and clanged with his vampiric opponents. When one was cut down, another would fall beside their brethren, blood seeping and pooling from the stub their neck. He watched in mild fascination and kept the momentum by stabbing another, then spinning and using the other blade for a final motion. Another body fell and he rushed toward the beast that demanded his attention.

As the club swung down toward him, he rolled to avoid being crushed to death. His movement swift, he used his momentum to carry himself toward the frame of the beast. He grabbed on and steadied himself for the next attack.

Blades soaked in blood,he stabbed his double blades into the brain of the creature. He’d hold onto the blades if they connected into the meaty flesh and stab in a repeated motion, all over the creature’s body. His adrenaline pumped, he’d yell toward the Elder and make a motion toward him, while he felt the life of the beast begin to crumple under his attacks. Kazuhiko rolled off the body off the beast and landed on his feet, the bodies around him a symbol of his triumph.

"I don't die easy, asshole."

Kazuhiko got into stance and motioned toward the cocky Elder with an arrogant smile. There was nothing left to lose and he was confident in his abilities. The carnage behind him was proof enough of that.

Yevon growled low as the beast fell. It had tried it's hardest to get an attack in. Yet every time Kazuhiko would be able to dodge and get a hit. The beast's body crumpled to the ground defeated by the demon. Amaranth however was tossed into the void. A place that she hadn't ever seen. She sat up and rubbed her head. The wound upon her healing slowly but was healing. She chuckled. That was the first time someone actually went through with their plan. She wondered how Kazuhiko was doing with the elder.

"It would seem so. Even the mighty beast crumbles before a fool." Yevon said as he appeared. "Come now. Face me then."

Picking up the mighty blade he held so dear, the elder showed his face. He came walking towards the demon as he held his sword upright in his hands. How he wanted to make this man, Kazuhiko, fall. Yet he would know this wouldn't be easy. As Yevon approached and stood a foot from Kazuhiko, he brought the sword down upon his torso and stomach as he wanted to slash it. If it connected he would slid back.

"Defeat me and the sword is yours. But if the ruler of the land couldn't kill me, what hope do you have?" He asked as he looked at the man. "I doubt you'll pull it off."

Yevon then slash the sword upwards trying to hit his face and neck. He wouldn't give the man a chance to rest. Yevon wanted to make sure he couldn't have a chance to beat him.

Kazuhiko ignored more of the Elders words and crashed his blades in lightning quick fashion to block the incoming force. The blades would strike with such ferocity, that sparks would ignite from the impact. He pushed the Elder backward with his strength and the blades formation, then slashed toward any vulnerable areas that were left exposed. The left blade struck toward his midsection and the right blade was prepared for blocking any attacks. He had to keep momentum up and attempt to disarm his opponent, or at least bring them to exhaustion. His feet moved with such swiftness, that his body moved with an ethereal motion.

Shadows engulfed him and pushed him into the shadow realm for a few seconds, before he forced himself behind the Elder and pointed a blade at his back. If the Elder moved, he would strike the blade through and behead him.

“Move and I kill you...Hell, maybe I’ll kill you anyway, you fucking bastard.” Kazuhiko growled and kept the blade at the spine of the Elder. It would be a deadly maneuver if the Elder decide to spin around in an attempt to attack him. Whatever risk he was willing to take, Kazuhiko had the next plan to counter him.

Yevon smirked. The blade against his back as he knew Kazuhiko had beaten him at his own game. But then again, he could continue the fight. However he was wrong in thinking that he, as an elder would lose to a demon. Yevon dropped his weapons as he moved a bit back into the blade.

"Can you?" Asked Yevon.

Being the elder he had grown comfortable with his position. Yet some one came and actually challenged him. Even beaten him in battle. He moved back into the sword with a smirk on his face. The blood running down his back. Yevon didn't admit defeat yet. He then spun around and grabbed Kazuhiko's own blade. The sword cutting his hand as he raised his left hand towards his face.

"Show me then what you're made of. Your absolute power."

With a small chant leaving his mouth, the elf would produce a fire like crystal spear to run at Kazuhiko's own face. The magi learned by all in the land was used by many. Yet he didn't acquire higher magi like the Athenthian or Lyonessian people but it would suffice. He then let go of Kazuhiko's sword and grabbed the crystal spear if it didn't t connect the first time he would bring it at his chest then.

"Show me you can kill me. Then maybe the sword will be yours."

He killed the Elder with ease and avoided the oncoming attack. With a glint in his eye, he smirked at the creature and pushed his blades through his chest. There would be little time for the Elder to react, the blade would then be removed from his chest and sliced across his neck. When it connected, Kazuhiko would watch his head roll and stop mid-way toward the center of the starburst emblem. Amaranth was still safe in the shadow plane, but all he had to do was step into that realm and retrieve her. The blade fell from the grasp of the Elder and he picked it up with a familiar ease. Whatever caused it to ignite, extinguished itself in the hands of its new master.

Kazuhiko smirked and retrieved Amaranth, then had her drink some of his blood to restore her. The living artifact would be protected, the new blade acquired by Kazuhiko. He decided to take Amaranth back to an Inn, where he would pay for her room and board. It was the least he could do, since he put her life on the line. Kazuhiko stayed for the night and then made his way back to Weland, the blade(s) in hand.
