Thread Canonized: Chasing Zengi's Gauntlet [S-Class Artifact]

On 7/29/2018 at 4:36 PM, Ataraxy said:

Full Summary: In search of Zengi's right-gauntlet, Lilith Reiter sets off in search of the S-class artifact. While doing so, her plans are split. The first to get the artifact, the second to accumulate a group of followers with loyalties bound by contract. She encounters another necromancer, Ankou, and a werewolf, Ziva, along the way who help her fight the myriad of creatures blocking or protecting the path to Zengi's gauntlet. Ankou shifted between the body of his servant and his own using powerful necromantic abilities, before seeming to settle on his own from the time being.

When reading the Mountain Quadrant of Taen, the group encounter a handful of Xer'Orians but it proved to be little more than a minor inconvenience. Using her powers of necromancy, Lilith creates an undead Garantah and an undead Zkriz'kas out of those creatures they kill.Upon reaching the gauntlet Ankou clears the way before Lilith's spell can activate and retrieves it for her. However, the moment the gauntlet transferred to Lilith's hands it chose to test her- to determine if she was worthy of being its new owner. The enormous amount of necromantic energy exuding from Zengi's gauntlet clashed with Lilith's own abundance of necromantic energy. Taen Worldrift magic was distorted by the clash of power and swallowed up the group before spitting them out near the southern border of Taen's jungle quadrant, where Lilith tested the power of the gauntlet on the remaining undead guards. She then removed the remaining life-energy from the undead corpses and combined them into a single body, creating a completely loyal fighting machine.

On her command, Lilith's undead fighting machine massacred a nearby village of Morphers in order to steal their life energies and feed the gauntlet thereby truly activating its S-class potential. The gauntlet, acting as a necromantic foci, not only amplified Lilith's own powers but also that of her sword Deathbringer. She returned the undead creatures, except her fighting machine, back to dust. With their task complete, they started toward Taen's exit.

Summary:

On the day the Tyrant King Damien dies, the members of House Hildebrand are scattered to their own niches within the estate. Varda plants wheat in the fields, accompanied by her bodyguard Iyalon, and sees the fall of Ursa Madeum on the horizon. Nairne creates a potion that cures the common cold instantly, but declares it useless in the overall plan to cure his ill mother. Aspen assists her fiancé Cyril in crop research, and hides her flourishing magic from everyone around her. Kalika also witnesses the fall of Ursa Madeum, her daughter Suri by her side. Merel enjoys her father’s company as the most beloved of the Hildebrand children, receiving the family heirloom sword Brynhilde.

When the news of the Taen invasion reaches the estate, Lord Hildebrand plans an intimate feast within House Hildebrand at the suggestion of his eldest son. Unbeknownst to the family, Jasper plots to kill his own father, his wife Kalika a willing and intentional accomplice to the crime. Kalika pens a letter to the assassins of Ursa Madeum, providing a generous reward in exchange for the murder of Lord Hildebrand.

On the night of the feast, the merrymaking is interrupted by the discovery of Lord Hildebrand’s corpse by Merel. In spite of Jasper and Kalika’s plans to take the headship, Varda Hildebrand ascends as the new Lady of House Hildebrand. She opts to keep the patriarch’s murder hidden away from the world at large. In the midst of these tragic events, mysterious entities are awakened in the Greywood, influenced by Aspen’s magic.

Thread Canonized: Quit Whining or Grab a Shovel

Full Summary

A while after Taen had conquered Ursa Madeum, Thurgood Albert Singlance sought to satisfy his appetite for construction and went to help with the recovery efforts, bringing his knowledge of modern technology and engineering. Immediately he saw that the soggy mud-tracks brought any recovery efforts to a crawl. Not being one to ignore an obvius problem, he picks up a shovel and gets to work turning them into proper paved roads using the materials at hand. The paving in Andelusia led to him bringing in steam-powered machinery, and paving many more roads more quickly.

Unsurprisingly, the people had questions about them, that led to more questions about the answers, and Aveline quickly realizes that these people have no knowledge of mechanics, physics, or any science, so works to recruit educators from around Valucre for her new school.

Then the trouble comes.

Some people, looking to halt the progress, discredit Thurgood and Aveline, or damage Taen's reputation starts a rumor that the Taen Empire will grant them nobility. The populace assumes the worst, as people are wont to do, and make Thurgood and Aveline the target of their myriad frustrations, destroying the school, and spreading hate for the siblings.

Rozharon Parálios, the Queen/Empress of Taen arrives and attempts to shame the people of Andelusia out of their senseless anger and hatred, granting Thurgood and Aveline nobility in the process.

This has the opposire effect.

Thread Canonized: New Faces, New Deals

1 hour ago, Tyler said:

Summary

Abigail Karradeen, firstborn child of the dying Duke Firmus Karradeen, receives a request from her father to travel to distant Norkotia and resolve a trade dispute that has arisen with the new nationalist regime there. Though suspicious about her father's timing, she accepts the mission in hopes that its success with impress her father and give her a better chance of being declared heir. Abigail then travels abroad, meeting Norkotian Chairman Joseph Tynes and his advisor, Diric Redbridge upon arrival at her destination. A new trade agreement is arranged, which includes infrastructure investment, insider information sharing and an expansion of weapon exports.

However, as Abigail prepares to return home, she is informed that her father is nearing death, and plans to proclaim her half-brother heir while she is away. Believing her father planned this all along, Abigail rushes home, but is interrupted by an attempted raid by the pirate Captain Vigil. Rather than fight Vigil, Abigail instead makes a deal with him, though the specifics are known to very few of the crewmen. They then part ways and Abigail returns home to Gold Harbor, where she confronts her weakened father. Despite her mission success and her emotional pleas, Firmus Karradeen reaffirms his belief that only a male heir can inherit his title, causing Abigail to swear she will work to undermine her brother's ascent. Perhaps out of distress over his daughter's defiance, the sickly duke passes away mere seconds later.

During Geoffrey's promotion ceremony, Captain Vigil's pirates infiltrate Gold Harbor and launch a surprise attack on the celebration. Vigil, believing his agreement with Abigail will enable him to capture the newly-appointed duke for ransom, tries to make off with several prisoners from the event. But he is betrayed by Abigail, who only orchestrated the raid to provide a cover story for her brother's assassination by sharpshooter. She subsequently kills Vigil in a duel, then orders the Karradeen marines to destroy all the pirates, thus covering-up the conspiracy. As a result, Abigail becomes the new Duchess Karradeen, and swears that evil she did to ascend to power will not have been in vain.

Thread Canonized (Finally!): The Red Dawn of Ursa Madeum [4/4]

8 hours ago, Ataraxy said:

Full Summary: As the fourth step of a four step plan, the Taen military marched nearly unfettered into Andelusia with a righteous anger toward the Tyrant-King and his evil ways. With the initial steps success, the military was able to infiltrate Ursa Madeum and make their way into the city without the Tyrant-King finding out. The second step of Titus' plan led to the gates blocking entry to Andelusia were forced open from the inside. The third step had the military charging through the opened gates in the dead of night, catching Ursa Madeum and its army completely off guard. Up until the inner section of Andelusia, the Taen military worked its way to the royal castle with minimal casualties. Once they entered the inner section however, it become obvious the Tyrant-King Damien had kept all the best soldiers to protect himself and left on the most green soldiers in the outer sections to protect the citizens. The battle was hard fought, but the Taen military succeeded in breaking through to the royal castle. The Tyrant-King was beheaded by General Mars and burnt to cinders by General Som, leaving no room for possible resurrections of the Tyrant-King. Emperor Titus summoned a powerful attack to finish the already ruined royal castle, turning it into unlivable ruins. The process of cleaning out traitorous noble houses then begun so as to be carried out before peace once again found Ursa Madeum.

OOC note: The removal and execution of traitorous noble houses is an implied after effect. There is a possibility for roleplay in that situation but the executions are ruled as canon through this thread.

+5 Square Miles to the territory of House Dali!

31 minutes ago, supernal said:

Summary

Although much given to excess and ennui, Ampelos has seen his fortunes fade and his fortune dwindle; motivated by necessity, he comes up with a plan to secure funding and, better still, bring glory to House Dali

Ampelos pitches the outline of his plan to the Transmutation Guild's bursar to secure initial funding. Uses this funding to travel to Tia, where he enters into an exclusive contract with a Faux-ton provider, and convinces them to build an outpost at the Dali vineyard in Biazo Isle while he takes posts back to Ursa Madeum.

Back in Ursa Madeum Ampelos gives a presentation to a small council of the Guild's elite and the rich among the Dali bloodline. There he illustrates his intention not only to connect Ursa Madeum to the mainland, but to further connect Ursa Madeum with itself, constructing, as he terms it, 'bridges of light which will make three islands into a unified empire'. He goes on to highlight the benefit which must come from their existing relationships with the other Houses and how they would thrive with access to other parts of the kingdom; Hildebrand in Thrace and the Tankreds in Misral, most notably. Ampelos intends to see Dali as 'the spokes that hold the wheel together'.

His presentation is a smashing success. Ampelos immediately begins construction on the Faux-ton terminal and transports himself to Tia the moment the first connection is established.

From Tia he travels to Casper, and in Casper he arranges a business meeting with the current owners of Floracle. He proposes a two-fold business arrangement. First, that Floracle and Dali's Transmutation Guild work together to create, refine, and most importantly patent, a process by which they can create a transgenic hybrid of prized wine grapes from the Dali vineyard with the fast growing properties of bamboo, allowing them to triple their production of that particular cash crop; Floracle would receive a percentage of the profit for their white labeled wine, and would also have a controlling share of the patent.

The two parties enter into a cautious but eager partnership and so lay the foundation for future work.
