Thread Canonized: Constructing the House Singlance Manor

On 3/31/2019 at 8:23 PM, notmuch_23 said:

Summary: After being granted nobility due to their efforts in both initial recovery and continued expansion and improvement of Ursa Madeum's road network, Thurgood and Aveline quickly realize that to have any opportunity to be taken seriously, they need their own manor to base their Madean operations from.

Oscar Uldwar, of course, hated House Singlance from day zero and jammed them up at the Zoning and Development office, and for a while it seemed like it would literally take a decree from Emperor Demetrius to allow them to even start. Enter Prince of Hyperion, Grant Knight.

Grant didn't shove his head up his ass like Oscar did, and could see how much potential Thurgood and Aveline have. Unlike the rest of ursa madeum, he decides to befriend them, and did them a huge solid, bypassing Sir Engvar's manipulation at the Zoning and Development office, and together, they discovered Vulcanium. More importantly, House Singlance got the territory they were supposed to have from day one.

Now, Oscar Uldwar is an ugly, evil tree, and House Singlance has their manor.

Thread Canonized: Surveyed Up The River (House Singlance Land Expansion)

On 5/9/2019 at 4:02 PM, notmuch_23 said:

Full Summary: Thurgood and Nadia placed stations for Aveline to sight with her new theodolite, to map the topography of the river that runs through their territory, further up past their current territorial boundary to find a place to build a hydroelectric dam.

In the process, they discover that the river splits, but the northern fork did not visibly flow to the ocean. At the sit though, Thurgood spotted a peculiar geological phenomenon that turned some of the limestone into marble. A road was laid, a coring drill eas brought up, and both the limestone and marble were found to be dimension-quality stone.

Thread Canonized: There's Oil in these Jungles!

On 3/28/2019 at 9:18 AM, Grubbistch said:

Taking the necklace in hand, Grugga accepted the necklace, smiling with pride at his trophy. "You honor Grugga. Thank you." He bowed to her, admittedly only a small amount, as his wounds still made it painful to move. Gerald, in understanding honor and glory, smiled as well, feeling that they had done a grand service for all of this island.

"Come now, it's time to return to camp. From there we can finish this expedition." And with that they left, venturing back to the camp, so that the bugbear may claim his place as chief, allowing them to search for the oil deposits.

With the obstacles taken care of, House Uldwar is able to claim two deposits of oil, giving them a substantial leg up in wealth and clout. Sir Gerald is praised for his work, bringing honor to both his house and his fellow knights.

With Grugga as chieftain of his tribe, the Bugbears of Mirsal begin an open dialogue with House Uldwar, with the goblins migrating to Port Mars in order to find a better life than the wilds they are used to. Though this will provide new problems, it will also strengthen the city with new people and new ideas.

All in all, this is most assuredly a victory for House Uldwar, and for all of Ursa Madeum.

Thread Canonized: Expanding the Holly Land (Sheathe Land Expansion 2)

On 4/14/2019 at 12:50 AM, Thotification said:

SUMMARY

Holiness "Holy" Sheathe was back at it again with the land expansion but this time, she will be making use of her first batch of soldiers. A little more than a dozen of these farmer-turned-soldiers was all she needed. After a rather curt briefing with Adjutant Vinny, Lieutenant Ludmi and the other soldiers, the party was then ready to go. Before they depart, Adjutant Vinny was tasked to distribute their brand new weapons and armor. With that out of the way, the troops began their first flight.

It took a while but they have gone past Sheathe's borders and was greeted with wild, untamed land, ripe for the taking. Holly barks some orders and soon the company began hacking their way through the shrubbery with their short blades. Once most of the larger flora were cut off, Holly and her team began the solemn act of burning everything to the ground. Once the flames had died down, Holly shot the signal flare, indicating to the waiting farmhands that this area was ready for preparation and cultivation. All that was needed was for the farmhands to wipe away the ashes and start plowing.

Once more, Holly and her group flew forward until they reached a nearby valley. Once more they resumed the usual slash and burn tactic and then sent a signal for the waiting farmhands to come and clear the reclaimed land. After a thorough search of the hills, Holly found out that there might be iron deposits deep in the hills which she took note of.

Thread Canonized: With Fire And Steel [quest]

On 4/11/2019 at 11:29 AM, Tyler said:

Minor Summary

The coastal village of Rockshore is invaded by a band of nasty pirates known as the Brothers of the Deep, who brutalize the denizens as they use their hamlet as a base to conduct raids. House Karradeen learns about these pirate and dispatches Captain Wallace Ambrose and his Ironborn to destroy the pirates and reclaim the town. Ambrose emerges victorious and the village is saved. Rockshore subsequently becomes a vassal of House Karradeen.

Summary

A sinister pirate guild, known as the Brothers of the Deep, arrive in the small village of Rockshore on the island of Corinth. Without a liege lord to protect it, Rockshore is quickly taken-over and converted it into a new base of operations for the pirates. Using the villagers' fishing boats, they begin to conduct raids against lightly-defended merchant vessels near Corinth, making the trading ships and their crews vanish without a trace. Despite the danger, a young boy manages to escape Rockshore and travels through the jungle, eventually arriving in Gold Harbor. He then relays what has happened to the authorities of House Karradeen.

Desiring to ride the seas of another troublesome pirate menace, Countess Abigail Karradeen dispatches Captain Wallace Ambrose, a privateer seeking to regain his standing after having failed the house on an earlier occasion, to investigate and dispose of the buccaneer threat. Ambrose arrives in the tiny hamlet, finding it seemingly devoid of pirates; but this is a deception. The Brothers of the Deep spring a trap upon Ambrose and his Ironborn warriors, having disguised themselves as villagers and hidden magic traps throughout the village. Despite this, their weapons and fighting skills are woefully outclassed by Ambrose's men, and the battle turns against them quickly. In response, the pirate captain uses dark magic to summon an army of skeletons from the depths of the ocean, and uses them to attempt to capture the privateer ship. However, his gambit fails when Ambrose and his warriors storm the village hall, where and his men are making their last stand. After a brief, but brutal battle, the pirate captain is captured, his men defeated, and the skeleton army returned to dust.

With the pirates annihilated, Captain Ambrose returns to Gold Harbor with the village elder and the pirate prisoners. Abigail Karradeen greets them personally, ordering the pirates be tortured for information before they are hanged, then accepting the offer from the Rockshore elder for the village to become her new vassal. After promising to rebuild and protect the town, Abigail leads Captain Ambrose to a nearby teahouse, to given a more complete assessment of the battle, the town, and the outlook going forward.

Thread Canonized: Importing The Future [Karradeen Land Expansion]

On 4/5/2019 at 10:25 AM, Tyler said:

Minor Summary

House Karradeen purchases a section of land near Gold Harbor and sets about leveling a mountaintop in order to build an airstrip. After several setbacks, some negative and some positive, House Karradeen and a contingent of Norkotian builders manage to complete construction after several months of grueling work. To celebrate the accomplishment, Grand Executor Joseph Tynes becomes the first passenger to arrive by plane at the brand new airport.

Summary

House Karradeen receives a proposition from John Kessler, the Norkotian Ambassador in Andelusia, to undertake a joint construction project that would result in a functional airfield being built near Gold Harbor. Deciding that it would be ultimately be a boost to House Karradeen's transportation business, Abigail agrees to the proposition, and work begins on selecting a location.

After a suitable site is found, Karradeen laborers, including a large number of refugees from the recently destroyed mainland city of Tia, begin work on clearing the jungle. Once the site is cleared, Norkotian engineers arrive and begin blasted the site with dynamite, only to unearth a coal vein before they complete the process. Not wanting to let this resource go to waste, a mining operation is undertaken to strip the mountain of coal before it is finally leveled off for construction. The coal mining process delays the overall project, but is ultimately completed at a rapid pace.

Using the stone excavated from the mountain, Karradeen masons construct a large, free-standing turret, which will act as a control tower and lighthouse for the airstrip. The control turret, along with several hangers, garages and a not-yet-usable diesel generator facility, are all wired for electricity, pending future advancements in the field. Work finally concludes, but not before the Norkotians notice that their equipment appears to suffer an abnormal amount of wear and malfunction while operating in Ursa Madeum. Even so, the airfield proves functional, as several tests with smaller aircraft conclude successfully.

To celebrate the accomplishment, Joseph Tynes travels to Gold Harbor by plane, his craft becoming the first outside arrival to the new airport. The flight only takes sixteen hours, meaning that travel time between Ursa Madeum and distant Norkotia has been reduced significantly. With this realization, House Karradeen and the Norkotian Union are poised to ramp up their business dealings and increase the flow of technology into an island chain currently dominated by magic.

During their annual business summit, the Ul'Vandiirs attempt to swindle the Kholin family of a great fortune by selling them the rights to a mine that has run dry. This deception, revealed by Vivienne Ul'Vandiir, daughter of Vhoori Ul'Vandiir, comes to light and drives a wedge between the two families. While the negotiations are barely salvaged and at a rate far more detrimental to the Ul'Vandiir's stability, the trust remains shattered between the two families. Vivienne is then taken into the Kholin's custody to serve as a ward of Gavin Kholin, head of the house, by his youngest son and Lord Commander of his honorguard, Andross. Vhoori initially thinks to challenge the claim, but exits when two other members of the honorguard, Ser Marcus and Ser Ikora, arrive at the scene.
