Updates: Canon and General

Recommended Posts

Consider this your primary stop for updates to Lagrimosa lore, canon, and organization.

The baseline for a qualifying canon event is one full page, which is 15 posts. This can include the summary.

New: By default armed conflict in urban environments will always carry raised awareness among the government as a Consequence. It will also require demonstrable loss or damage for the assaulting party or a roll on the NDS.

Don't anticipate that I, as Lagrimosa, will roleplay out minor details - I don't have the bandwidth and lack the desire even if I had the time. I can't keep up with every possible thread and respond to all possible actions. Lagrimosa is big! So if things get blown up (or burned down, or infested with a zombie virus), anticipate they'll get fixed even without direct player involvement. 1 month (OOC or IC) is the average repair time.

Very large scale events should be done in multiple parts (ex: I disrupted human trafficking industry in another continent over 3-4 threads), as each canonization gives people a chance to act and react in stages rather than very big changes executed all in one go.

Note that I've broadcasted changes in how I want to develop Lagrimosa. The short hand is "deeper, not wider". My focus is on developing existing territories and having players interact with players, not adding more territories and having players interacting only with the setting. If you want to blow something up, build something new, or take something over, look to a peer.

Below are rules of thumb I use to guide decisions. The numbers are suggestions - for example where post counts are indicated, activity isn't the only factor I consider nor is it a guarantee.

Location creation (average size is ~5 sq. mi.; standing policy is against territorial expansion per development policy)

  • Tag in Cities or Wilds = 225 posts (15 lifetime pages)
  • Map inclusions = 375 posts (25 lifetime pages)

General guideline for soldier acquisition

  • 1 thread canonized, 2 page minimum = 500-2000 basic infantry

General guidelines for severity of attack based on deaths

  • A few = baseline. murder is a serious offense, makes any existing crime worse, and should be treated seriously
  • Dozens = effective attack
    • The following are an example of the kind of response you should anticipate from the setting and OOC prompting by me if needed
  • Hundreds = highly effective attack
  • Thousands = The attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in the deaths of ~2400 people. This will represent the ceiling, not the standard, for any “supremely effective” attack

Civil War

Terrenus civil war | phase 2 | phase 3: Part 2 highlights the events in Hell's Gate, Blairville, and Tia which lead to changes in magic and transportation and incipient civil unrest | Phase 2 highlights the establishment of factions and territories across the nation of Terrenus | Phase 3 highlights the growth of these factions and territories into their own regions

Canon changes to magic and transportation: Explains why the warp gates and lightning rails are no longer operational; explains why the ceiling of magic has lowered to make destructive magic less effective than elsewhere in Valucre, with the exception of the newly expanded Shawnee Glacier

Update to Taen

Quote

Chasing Zengi's Gauntlet: A group of individuals led by powerful necromancer Lilith Reiter trekked to the Mountain Quadrant of Taen and obtained the S-class artifact, Zengi's right gauntlet. Through the power of the gauntlet, a powerful undead servant was created to kill and absorb the life energy of its victims to feed the gauntlet's hunger.

Lilith has claimed Zengi's gauntlet as an S-class artifact

Update to Ashville

Quote

Ruin has come to Ashville: As a result of the Maw sweeping through and devouring Ashville, all that remains of the city are grayed cobblestone ruins, dusty glass and dirt. Wood, metal and all living material has been exhumed from the city. The area also appears to be significantly colder, and the environment looks grey and lifeless. The City of Ashville has been destroyed, with major loss of life, and even greater displacement of its citizens into Aspyn and Hyperion.

Note1 - as can be seen from the summary a majority of people were able to avoid death because they saw the warning signs and got out while the getting was good. If your character has a stake in Ashville, such as a business or some relation, it's fine to have had them scram earlier on

Note2 - Ashville will no longer be a city setting in Terrenus. The tag and map spot are being removed. It can still be played in as a ruin, as described in the canon post linked here

Note3 - For continuity purposes, this takes place later in 597 WTA / 29 AO, so as to allow the events in the Raid on Last Chance to resolve neatly where referencing an intact Ashville.

Update to Great Pine Barrens

Consolidated No Man's Land, Witch's Cave, Peaceful Woods, and Herbie's Bed into the GPB article. Although I removed them from the landing page map I added a map slice into GPB to show orientation

Update to Casper

Quote

A great plague: Necromancer Lilith Reiter and her contracted follower, a werewolf named Ziva, spread an incredibly contagious and potent plague refined by an S-class artifact around the city of Casper. Within days tens of thousands will have been infected with the mysterious disease, thousands already dead at its hands.

Update to Southern Sea

Although this takes place in Elendaron the events are significant enough to Terrenus that I want to make sure to integrate into Terrenus canon too

Quote

Death flees on the open sea: A black ship, sporting an army of rage made up of metal murder machines, has escaped the southern coast of Terrenus after visiting ruin on the beaches of Last Chance. The submarine LG-Pretty Lady, captained by Lynkos Ghostbard, gives chase to these enemy combatants and wins the day.

Update to Last Chance

Quote

Two if by sea: The Legion of Doom attacked Last Chance with several allies and were met by a Peacekeeper and organized defense forces (see post for specifics). After a day-long battle on the beach and fringes of the city, the Legion of Doom escaped badly beaten, but with the supplies they had come in hopes for, and several of their rank taken prisoner for interrogation.

Have started adding News sections to the top of the city articles to give a brief expansion on how the effects of the latest canon entry influenced the city. See Palgard, Casper, and Last Chance for an example

Update to Hell's Gate

Quote

The cost of victory: Michael Commager's Oculus crystal is removed and repurposed to house a limited instance of the Victory ASI, developed in Hell's Gate. The purpose of this is two-fold: to gather data on field-test combat and investigation scenarios as navigated by a PeaceKeeper, and to observe Michael's mental and physical state after the combat in Last Chance.
