[Event] Darkness and Havoc - Illyria Arrives

ee0ccfe03de6673533408a8c090bd714.jpgChange, augmentation, interesting, yet garish in a way. There wasn't anything spectacular about it, only that the blades were larger, and now were red hot. Had there not been such a heavy degree of humidity, there would have surely been a fire caused on the foliage. Since this seemed to be all that was capable of this monster, Sanguine believed it was time to put an end to their dance.

Heat meant nothing to the dead, so the vampiric knight was not fazed by the extreme heats being thrown at him. There was always a downside to every boon, that much he could tell, so he would expose this weakness, and use it to his advantage. With but one slash, the blades on the left arm were severed, scattering to the ground, now useless against him. Render roared in anger, but it was useless now, for Sanguine was thereby confirmed in his theory, and so would duplicate the technique. Another strike, a mix of an artful dodge and vicious attack, the monster no longer able to use such weapons against him, and now it was time.

"You fought well, but our time is done."

Desperately it tried to attack him, but Sanguine was simply too swift to catch. The smaller, faster warrior was able to injure the beast with an ever increasing volley of blade kissing flesh. Cuts were appearing all over the monster, his stamina slowly draining from him, as the loss of blood took it's toll on him. After a final attack upon the back of his knees, Render collapsed onto his knees, panting, struggling to catch his breath, every so vulnerable. It was almost beautiful, the mix of red and white, like drops of blood upon a snowy landscape.

"Fare thee well, mighty one. May you rest in peace."

Movement, the flash of steel, the rolling of the monster's head from his shoulders. The fight was finished, with Sanguine the victor. True, it was an acceptable distraction from his hunt, but he could not allow himself to remain in this place for too long. Greater prey still lurked in this jungle, those who had yet to feel the subtle touch of his sword. Flicking his wrist, that which remained of Render's life essence was flung to the ground, and he continued on his way.

Caw! Caw! Caw!

"Thank you, Dux Gravis. Your kind words keep me going in these dark times. If only more people had a friend like you."

Caw!

He laughed softly in that dull, muted way he knew. "Yes. There is no one else like you, my friend."

He nodded. "Alright. Do we have an approximate location, or are we just gonna fan out and look? Oh!" Dan gestured to his outfit. "You like? Its what I wear when I'm on the job."

"Ooohhh," Khaki tonelessly giggled, "Your costume is so like our cartel's style, you could be mistaken as one of us."

The dark colors and the stylish coat is enough to make any cartel member's eyes sparkle in admiration. Similar to Dan, Khaki did wear her own long coat complete with a hoodie. To show off her own fashion sense, Khaki shorts twirled childishly befroe Dan. "See? We have similar fashion taste! I still have that wolf pelt coat from Whispernight. I would have worn it if I knew you were coming."

While the two were busy discussing clothing, the other cartel agents were already joining hands in a circle. Oracle Black As, Little Sans, and Teddy. All three linked through their hands, all three focusing all their power. In low tones the three chanted together.

"Portal portal fucking open up! Portal portal take us out of this shitty place! Portal Portal fucking lead us where we need to go!"

Power surged within the trio, converging into the space between. Their magic seem to distort the space, leaving cracks in reality as the portal began to form. Soon there was a large gaping crack in inside the circle, wide enough for one person to pass through. If one were to look through the crak, they would see the fields right before the dangerous forest. The trio can only use Holly's recent location in the fields as the portal's spawn point. From there they would have to walk all the way.

Impatience flitted on Teddy's face as she chided everyone present, "Khaki, Dan! Stop flirting and get in the portal. Reginald you can go join us or stay here. Oracle, you maintain the portal. Everyone take your penguins with you! We're going to fix this problem."

What were you doing before this started….gnome? Did you or any of these people mess with any foreign technology without proper knowledge of how to operate it?”

The snake like objects of energy attached themselves to their wounds and swiftly began repairing the broken skin, tissues, or even muscle. Letting them go while the makeshift topical solution did its job, she turned to look at Al, one hand on her hip while the other moved her fingers as if she needed to crack her knuckles.

"Oh, no, ma'm," Al replied, his voice soothing and unperturbed. "These fine people are quite used to living without technology; unless skillfully handled and properly maintained, it won't even work in these islands. As for myself, I am a master magitech engineer with over fifty years of academic training and over thirty years of surface application experience. You can rest assured that my credentials are sufficient to help determine the cause of this setback, as well as to exclude Gryffyn Enterprises-- I mean, me, from the list of possible causes."

While speaking, Al meandered over to the edge of the protective dome, inspecting it in what looked like a casual way. He then turned to watch the doctor as she healed some of the refugees, and nodded solemly.

"It would appear from our recent experiences that magitech is, to some degree, functioning now. That's very interesting. Did your medical device experience an unusual warming when you activated it, or make any unusual noises?"

“Our logs never indicated that gnomes were present within Orisia so why are you here?”

"Oh, goodness, I apologize. I failed to introduce myself at the beginning of our call-- I mean, our discussion." Al shook his head, trying to clear out the well-practiced phrasing his job required for conversing with irritated customers. "My name is Aloysius Picayune, senior customer service manager for Gryffyn Enterprises. You can call me Al. I'm here from Ignatz on an extended vacation."

Al poked a gnarled finger into the barrier, observing how the light washed over his skin. "You might be here for an extended vacation too, if we can't get to the bottom of all this."

The gnome looked over at his rag-tag group of survivors, then at the barrier. Orbiters continued to pelt it mindlessly, and Al observed the slight increase in visual distortion that seemed to be getting incrementally worse with each attack. It wouldn't hold forever, and there seemed to be no shortage of floating gas bags.

He was torn; on the one hand, a magitech mystery was irresistible; on the other, he'd inherited some responsibility for the citizens who'd followed him, whether he wanted it or not. He blew a frustrated burst of air from his nostrils.

"First, though, I think we need to get as many people as possible to safety. Then we can get down to the business of determining the cause of this disturbance. Wouldn't you agree?"

Al looked out over the bridge to the orchards; some awful-sounding creature roared, and in the further distance, he could see trees toppling as some unstoppable force rampaged through the pristine farms.

He turned his gaze to the medical center, with its scientists frantically barricading the entrance from the outside. Al chose to believe that meant there was something ridiculously dangerous past those doors. He pondered.

"My experience with city-destroying accidents leads me to believe that we would all be safest outside the city walls. Does fleeing for our lives sound like a good place to start?"

Character: Luz Yllende

Affiliation: Illyria

Location: Tekker Medical Facility f.k.a Arena of Thorns

Objective: Protect Illyrian interests

Al’s decision to interact with her in an almost rehearsed string of pleasantries and soft spoken words seemed to only bother Luz that much more. He was starting to sound like all of the rest of the fellows within the Scientific Division that would much rather save face than speak their mind or simply tried to avoid conflict. Luz preferred individuals who could speak their mind without resorting to attempting to manipulate her with soft words or cater to some perceived notion of how a woman should be treated. That being said, Al’s mention of his credentials was enough to calm her down a bit as was visible by the way her brows arched and the slightest smirk fell upon her features. As Al began to postulate about why certain things were occurring and then asked her about her current device she shifted to fully face him after letting the citizens she held go.

Her reaction softened just a bit, electing not to choose a defensive route now that she made the assumption that she may be able to utilize whatever knowledge Al had about this area to come to her own conclusion about this whole mess. “No unusual warming here but I lost the availability of many of the functions this device holds, though it seems that several of them are returning now.” She eyed the panel on her left wrist and noticed that many of the support and defensive functions of her device were now showing as available. Turning to the scientists in the distance she speaks “It seems the infused air of our home has begun fully saturating this area. I will need a few of you to come here.” Her head snapped back toward Al after she had asked him why he was here to hear his response.

The mention of Ignatz caused her to mouth the name of the city in confusion as she was trying to remember if she had heard anything about it in her studies of the data they held on Orisia. She concluded he was obviously no Orisian…so likely not tied to the Black Queen either which only brightened her view of the gnome just a tad more. His mention of her own extended vacation in this humid, vampire infested land caused her to frown immediately and then spurred her into further action.

“I’d rather die Al.”

She adjusted the band that kept her upper body mostly modest and then began looking through the available functions that her medical device held. Most of these options could keep her alive long enough to figure this mess out she thought but she found herself wishing Heron was here to bounce ideas off of. Biting her lip as she felt the weight of responsibility for her own people as well, she heard Al’s frustrated sound.

The scientists she called forward stood at attention as if they were conditioned to do so though she did nothing to cultivate their behavior. She pointed at one of them suddenly and began speaking.

“I need you to head over to the dimensional blur that brought us here and take whatever analytical equipment you have. DO NOT TOUCH IT!”

The young scientist fumbled about but eventually began gathering some equipment near the entrance of the medical center and moving toward one of the spherical nodes that seemed to be connected to this mess.

Now turning back to Al, Luz responded directly to his suggestion.

“I am not interested in fleeing. I need to collect more data...”

Luz looked around her and could hear the sounds of ships firing their cannons, some sort of wildlife trampling through a portion of the city in the distance, and the familiar sound of Anular in the opposite direction of that. In truth, she wasn't sure whether going anywhere was the best option.

One of the scientists who had been moving along the perimeter of the medical center nodded and began interjecting.

“You’re right ma’am. There were some strange aquatic creatures in the waters attacking ships in the distance and some large beasts attacking part of the city to the northeast. It seems escaping by water is ill-advised and given this is an island…well…”

Luz placed a finger just above the bridge of her nose in annoyance at what she considered obvious at this point but she held in any biting response.

One other scientist spoke up as well.

“Still we might want to move the non-essential personnel to some place less centralized so that we can gather more data elsewhere”

The young man meant well but seeing as his idea in part fell in line with Al’s suggestion she was hesitant to agree at first. A few seconds passed by with her looking at the gnome then her scientists then the citizens Al had escorted in before mumbling out the next few words.

“Do what our light would do….”

Taking steps toward Al, she cleared her throat before addressing him yet again.

“I will escort some of my people to the north past the city walls. I should be able to collect enough data by the time we reach that area to come up with a proper plan to end this nuisance. You are welcome to join and discuss along the way should you have any worthwhile input to provide”

Luz made no mention of the people that were his charges, seemingly uncaring about their fates though that wasn’t really the case. Stepping through the barrier, she gulped as she realized they would have to pass the Garden Groves to get where she wanted to go but she took quite a few steps forward before pressing a specific sequence of buttons along her device. The device hummed a bit before pumping a bit more energy into her veins. Lifting her left hand upward a bright green light shot out of her palm before curling in several directions to create a dome large enough to protect her and several other people. The dome flickered for a while until it stabilized itself. Several of her people rushed into the dome and huddled behind her and she managed to tower over them while she waited for Al and whoever he brought along to join.

“Let’s move!”

Yeah Dan. All you need is a little penguin ink monster, basic people skills, and tits. You could be just like them!
Dan did not like that idea at all. Perhaps it meant something else here, but where he was from, a cartel was known as a group who used dirty means to maximize profits. Dan was not about that life. If he was going to make money, he was going to do it fair and square; by stealing it from someone else. Preferably a rich asshole or a villain group.
Besides, he had a plethora of familiars. Granted, they weren't Gunter demons made of black goop, but what did that matter?

Alright. Credit where its due. Dan very much approved of how these females spoke to their portal. Talking to it like the bitch it is, commanding it to do its job. THAT is how you get a portal to work right.

"Oh please. She wishes."
You never know... she actually might.
...........

That thought hadn't crossed Dan's mind. He truly hoped she didn't actually wish. Khakis had the double against her in that regard.
Dan was taken,
And Dan wasn't into girls.

"Well lets go then."
Dan ran through the portal, doing so at normal speed. He didn't want to show off his speed yet. It wasn't the moment that would be the most dramatic and cool yet. If Dan was gonna show off, he was gonna do it correctly.
