Leying a Foundation

Recommended Posts

Once upon a time, the farm on which Grant Knight now looked upon would have been a picture of vitality; with fruits and vegetables springing from the ground, waiting for a farmhand to come and harvest them. Now the vegetation that once thrived here was withered and rotten, having died a long time ago due to environmental degradation. But if one looked close, the earth beneath the dead plant life was now almost pristine; the result of his mother having struck a deal with the local leyline to rejuvenate the land. He was still unclear on what exactly the terms of the bargain had been, but he supposed it was irrelevant for the time being. What mattered now was clearing out the biological wreckage left behind, and getting the farmers who still remained on Thrace back to work.

Currently, he was waiting in the dusty remains of what used to be the main farmhouse, sitting upon a rickety wooden chair that he had found. The sun was shining through multiple holes in the roof, lighting up the otherwise dark structure. Soon the people he had made contact with would arrive, and he would explain to them the details of what they would be agreeing to, and what they would be doing.

The sight of the land looked all too similar to Gaylord Mar who lived in a nation litterly drowning in land like this. Ruined, toxic lands: at least it made him feel as if he was at home so he didn't feel very disturbed by this.

He had traveled a long way to get here, having been dropped off the air ship that was taking him a bit too early so he considered he was late for the meeting. This job would be perfect for him, as he would begin a peaceful life of farming. But of course the king requested that a branching office be made there to, however The king did say he'll give Gaylord a 2 day delay before the others arrive to construct the office so that was decent at least. He'll get 2 days of peaceful farming just like his ancestors did before him, before his home land transformed into a wasteland.

He had begun to open the doors of the ruined farmhouse which stood now as a reminder of what used to be and what  the land could be once again.

"So Where do we start?" Was the question asked as he closed the door and leaned on a wall lightly as he worried it might collapse if he put pressure on it.

"A pity, this was quite beautiful back in my day."

The woman known as the Madame tore her gaze away from the polluted land, her yellow eyes shifting to the old man beside her. He was her aide, one of her mother's trusted retainers and with the woman's death, the old man drifted to the Madame's side swearing to serve someone of her mother's blood till she died. The funny part was that the man was older than her family, even older than her ancestors. He was always a mystery and so was his knowledge of this world. Still, she welcomed his help especially at times like this.

Linda pursed her lips as she looked back at the land. "That's why we are here, Lord Suzy. Someone wants this place cleaned and I have some spare time.

The old man merely shrugged in response, the action making Linda Linda sigh. For now it is best they begin looking for their supposed contact. Crossing her arms across her chest, the Madame sashayed towards the farmhouse in search of somebody else to converse with. Luckily there was somebody else entering the humble house and the Madame only had to follow suit. Her aide on the other hand would have to suffer waiting outside. In silence, Linda Linda positioned herself by the wall near the door, unamusement filled her face as she waited for her instructions.

As the rumors of war dwindle, the Datsuzoku continued to expand in territories new, however they could finesse their way into it. Such as today in particular. The Heika opted into the All-Mother's program not just to help hold some semblance of favor and good faith with his own growing Empire, but also to claim his stake of land. To hold land in Ursa Madeum was to hold land in Terrenus. To hold land in Terrenus would establish Koji's influence on each of the three mainlands, the continents. While Koji himself would not lift a finger to work, he sent ahead a young man he was certain could complete the task at hand. A defect of the Keepers of the Garden. His objective was simple, complete the task and claim the land rewarded afterwards. Send the coordinates back to Oo'Xora, and await the arrival of supplies and men to begin working. Having looked at a map before hand, the favorable location to lay claim on was actually the Pirate's Cove. It would prove more beneficial for the Dynasty to have less control over cultivation of land and crops, and more control over the most direct and inexpensive form of import and export as far as trading was concerned. While it was partially just a smart move, it was also the fact that Koji had some decent hookups through his few allies. His thriving nations had goods that he could bring in, and certainly goods would find themselves exclusive here that he would wish to send to his nations.

Silently, he arrived when and where designated. He was to meet with Hyperion's interim leader to discuss terms and become briefed of the overall situation here. Typically he would have liked to have watched more from the shadows first, but he took this job knowing that the Dynasty's reputation was a fragile one. It was important to appear forward, and not to slink about the shadows and silence. Lest he wished to be given a suspicious eye from nothing more than petty prejudices. As a former Shinobi, this wasn't his first time undercover though. He'd allow the others to talk and ask questions first, in which he was certain he'd only speak if spoken to, or if he had an actual question that wasn't asked by one of the others.

Koji’s man found himself at a separate location from the rest of the volunteers. Prior to his arrival, the Duke and Duchess had discussed long and hard about allowing the Datsuzoku to possess territory in Senaria lands. In the end, they agreed to receive his aid for the sole purpose of keeping peace. Koji was a dangerous man, and Senaria was in a disadvantageous position to offend.

He had been notified to arrive at the location of his lodging for the duration of his stay. It was a medium sized wooden cabin with all the necessary facilities, including a fireplace for warmth in the cold nights.

Seated at the entrance upon a rocking chair, Reyna straightened up as she caught sight of the approaching figure.

When he had arrived, she would stand up to greet him.

“You should be Lord Koji’s man. I am Duchess Reyna of House Senaria. It is my pleasure to see you comfortably to your lodging and to answer any questions that you have.”

Seeing that everyone had arrived, Grant rose from his seat, and began to explain things.

"Thank you all for coming here. We've got a lot of work to do today, so I'll make this quick so that we can get on with it. As you probably saw on your way here, the land here has been neglected and abused to the point of turning the countryside into a veritable wasteland. My mother, Empress Raveena, has struck a deal to rejuvenate the soil, but nothing new can be planted until the old, dead vegetation has been cleared out. That's what we're here to do."

Grant gestured to a table on which a map of the area was laid out, "We'll be starting here, around the farm, and circling outward, gather up the dead vegetation, and feed it into a mobile incinerator. As for your reward, as promised, you will all be given a plot of land for your personal use. Your land will remain a part of Senaria, and will be subject to all laws and taxes applicable."

The Prince looked out at his audience, "You guys ready to work?
