A Night To Remember

Spoiler

A woman of pale skin and deep red hair danced. Choreographed and in sync with the booming music of a loud party that smelled of affluence and greed. She danced. She danced for Money. She danced for attention. She danced because she had to. She danced to survive.

A cityscape of lights, buildings, and a patchwork of lives and stories were the backdrop to a party taking place on a hillside manor that hung tightly to the cliff it was built upon. It’s rich and artful design reeked of money gained from less than admirable revenues. Yet that didn’t bother her.

Miss Blonde watched the young woman from the sidelines. With a stiff drink in her hand, the Crime Lord took a hard swig before turning to the right and moving away from the cliffside deck that overlooked the vast cityscape of Hellsgate. It was all too familiar to her. The chatting around the pool, the lights, the fake laughter, the hedonism. She had grown up in a world like this, and she had grown tired of it. She had grown tired of the parties and the people who gussied themselves up for a night of vanity self indulgence. A night of whose who and whose wearing what label. It was all so very superficial.

Yet, she was here. She was here for a reason. One that was beyond the vanity and glitz of the evening. Solomon the PlanesWalker, a man who could navigate dimensions from what she was told. A man who could help her achieve the goal that had eluded her for these last few months. A man who she intended to either hire or force into her service. Though Miss Blonde wasn’t alone in this task, she was with someone who had given her hope. She was with Jack, a man who she loved and had become quickly enamored with as she spent more and more time in this realm. So much so that she didn’t want to return home.

Spotting him at the bar in the living room of this manor, she stepped past the random pairings of people finding love for the evening. She pushed past the haze of smoke and illicit drugs that were being smoked and injected. She walked steadily to find Jack at the bar and stand next to him. Her dark metallic mask stared up at him and he’d be able to tell that she was concerned. The guest of honor had yet to arrive and despite all her planning, it all came down to whether or not some drunken debauched wizard decided to come to a party.

”Keep your eyes open. I imagine there’s a lot of people here who are dealing with their own business tonight.”!Her robotic laced voice said to Jack before downing her drink and ordering another from the barkeep.

Tonight was going to go south. She could feel it in her bones.

It had been to long since Jack had been surrounded by the haze of smoke and the smell of alcohol and sex, and he realized that he had missed it. All of the hedonism was the only honest thing about a party like this; where everyone put on their best costumes to smile and make nice with people they hated. Personally, he had never seen the point in all of the posturing. If somebody bothered him, he would settle things right there and then; violently or peacefully would depend on the other person. He refused to be dishonest with himself for even one second, and if the world wouldn't accept that, then he would force it to.

Fortunately for him, he had found a fallen angel who shared his opinion on achieving societal acceptance, Mrs Blonde, or Patricia as she was known to him. The two of them had fallen for each other quickly, and now shared a deep bond that went beyond even that of lovers. When she had told him of her quest to bring her children to this world, he knew he would do whatever he had to to make it happen. That was the reason he now sat at this bar as his lover quietly moved to stand beside him.

”Wouldn’t that be nice.” Blonde said in response.

Polishing off her drink, the woman then set it to the side and did a final run through of her gear. Her suit tonight wasn’t the comfortable cloth fabric that she had been wearing more often now that she didn’t have to look over her shoulder for bounty hunters, rival gangs, and grieving family members of the victims she left in her wake. That suit wouldn’t of been ideal for the chaotic occasion. She wore her original, the one she dubbed “The Classic” A suit made of alchemized energy and plasma resistant spider silk that was loaded with various high tech gadgets and features. Beneath it lay an energized metal bodysuit that gave her the strength of a particular race of people known for pulling arms out of the sockets of their enemies. And that wasn’t even counting the plethora of concealed weapons that suit held. If Jack ever noticed anything about Patricia it was she valued technology, and from her home reality their tech seemed to be vastly superior to what Terrenus had to offer. She was ready if anything went down and she assumed Jack with his enhanced abilities was equally prepared for trouble.

”When Solomon walks in, we wait until he’s good and drunk. My contacts tell me he’s a fan of debauchery so that shouldn’t be hard.” Blonde then snapped her fingers at the bartender who began to mix her another cocktail.

”What are our exfil options if things go sideways?” She knew what she would and where she would go, but Jack has a better mind for this than her. As much as she hated to admit it.

Miss Blonde was a big picture kind of woman. The intelligence community taught her how to plan a heist and lay out the overall structure the plan, however she was an experienced operator and knew that things didn’t always go as planned so the various shot callers and team leaders needed the freedom to adjust the plan or abandon the plan as the situation changed. And she’d come to find that where she was a creature of method and meticulous design. Jack was a man who could walk into a situation without a real plan and improvise his way to an all out victory. He was a real in the moment guy and she loved that about him. They completed each other.

Dante walked around for what seemed like weeks. He and his companion Sasha were walking for so long without interacting with any people they didn't even bother to learn the name of the city. The tall man was leaning on his smaller companion because at this point he was so 'sober' that he couldn't see straight. He needed some alcohol to get to his usual state.

Eventually Sasha sees a manor and loud music playing. 'Music. Manor. Based on the music and if people are partying then alcohol might be available. Might even be free.' She looks at Dante, who's basically what an intoxicated man would be right now, and sighs. 'Why couldn't he just go to a bar? Why did he have to make me carry him to a place to sleep? ... WHAT CITY ARE WE EVEN IN?!'

Sasha gets to the manor door and peers inside seeing a massive party going and seemingly no one paying attention. 'Hope no one minds.' She walks in with Dante around her shoulder and goes to find literally any alcohol. Having a hard time navigating through the crowd, she sighs and just walks through the people, moving them out of her way with ease from her robotic strength. After making it to the bar, she sees a man and woman who are both dressed, who might be looking now looking at a 5'10 black haired woman carrying an over 6' man with unnaturally white hair that goes past his entire back, both in street clothes, and physically setting him in a seat. She tries to avoid any eye contact to the two well dressed but she can't help but look at them to see if they're staring at Dante.

Dante snaps his head up and stares at the bartender. He just points to the alcohol and waves towards himself, meaning bring it over. After getting his drink, he downs it as fast as he can and keeps this process going for many, many, repeated sessions of this.

Jack took a discreet look around the room, taking another look at the formidable security precautions that protected the room. Of course there were cameras everywhere, covering every possible angle while overlapping each other to ensure virtually zero blind spots. Armed thugs in nice suits were posted throughout the room, along with a number of guards in plainclothes doing their best to blend in. There had been guards on the elevators and the stairs, which made him think that they could lock this floor down pretty quickly if they needed to. All in all, a formidable amount of security.

"Option A would be to go out the window. I can take the fall, and if you can't you can just hold on to me on the way down. If we move quickly enough, we should be able to get away before offsite reinforcements arrive."

He paused to take a sip of his drink before continuing.

"Plan B is to fight our way upstairs, and escape along the rooftops. We'll have to make our way through a few floor of security, but it will be hard for them to follow us once we get to the roof. Last ditch effort, we fight our way downstairs and escape that way. With the amount of goons they got here, we won't be able to move quickly, and we'll likely encounter reinforcements. Plus, we'll cause significant collateral damage."

Listening to Jack’s tactical plan, it was solid and she had nothing to contribute to it. Though she was only a little miffed that Jack had even the slightest bit of concern that she couldn’t make that fall off the cliffside. He had seen her drive a telekinetic spike through a Bull Wyvern’s chest cavity and out the other end. A fall to the ground like that would be nothing and she’d be able to easily catch herself. However she didn’t boil in her playful indignation for very long. There was a job to do after all. A job that needed to be done to get her one step closer to getting her kids back.

”We take A if we’re floor level. B if we find ourselves upstairs. Orange can swing in for an evac with the target in hand.” Blonde said as the bartender sat her next drink down.

The party raged on and the electric atmosphere of sex, drugs, and alcohol continued to flow. The guards would without a doubt get sloppy as the night went on, they were rent a cops by her standards that were hired by some washed up B List celebrity actor. So she didn’t want to have to kill anyone if she didn’t have to. Collateral damage was to be kept at a minimum. So when Blonde leaned over to take her drink she noticed a woman staring at them, stealing glances and perhaps trying to suss them out. However she was not alone by the looks of things. Most likely the man drinking was dumb muscle. Nothing her and Jack couldn’t handle. So now it just came down to how to handle this potential threat. While violence certainly was the first thing that popped into the mind of the Crime Lord, that wouldn’t be the most logical thing to do. So rather she opted for a more subtle path.

”The fuck are you looking at?” Super subtle. Her robotic laced and accented voice would be loud enough for the two of them to hear her over the party atmosphere.

They needed to know that she was not the one to be staring at. For all she knew they were plain clothed security trying to get a bead on the masked lady and her rogueshly handsome yet intimidating partner. She needed to project strength.

Dante had downed about three bottles worth of alcohol before regaining himself. He looked around the place and saw Sasha had brought him into some big ass house and apparently there was a massive party going down. "What? Wait what now?" Pulling Sasha to his side to get her attention. "Sasha where the fuck are we? Whose house is this?" He looked out a window. "What city are we in?"

Sasha quickly looked at Dante and shrugged. "Some manor. Not sure. And again, not sure."

Dante was about to snap at Sasha but then he heard it. The fuck are you looking at? He quickly looked at the woman, whose voice sounded robotic and shrugged. "Sasha was probably looking at you because my ass was needing a drink and she wanted to make sure she wasn't receiving odd glares." Quietly he gets out of his seat and stands up to look at her with a dead serious face. "Now I'm gonna say one thing to you. I don't care who you are. Don't talk to my creation like she's part of the common folk. If you wanna talk to someone like that then you may talk to these stupid party people like that. I will not have my creation be disrespected in front of me by some random person." He grabs a glass of alcohol from the bartender and walks away out of the room, leaving Sasha standing there speechless.

Sasha heard all of what Dante had said and stood there. She then looked at the two people and put her hands as if she was innocent, slowly walking away. It was super obvious Sasha wished to not cause ANY trouble.

John knew what would be going through Blonde's mind after that exchange; and he wouldn't deny that he was thinking the same thing. But now was not the time to indulge in such urges, and he felt a reminder of that would be best for both of them.

"Cocky little shits aren't they?" he laughed, "Any other place, any other time, I would have to drag that young man out back and teach him a few things about how to talk to a lady. But... now isn't the time for that. We're here for vastly more important reasons, and we can't afford to forget that. Causing a scene right now could scare off the guest of honor, and who knows how long it might take us to find him again."

He discreetly took her hand, "But if you need something else to take your mind off those guys, I'm sure we can find a little privacy somewhere."

She had sacked entire planets. She had ruled the criminal underworld with an iron fist and silenced anyone who dared stand against her. Not even the leaders of galactic nations dared to speak to her the way that man had. But those days were over. She was no longer in a dimension far far away. She was here, and even though the part of her mind that handled insolent curs screamed at her to rip him limb from bloody and screaming limb with her brain, she elected to abstain. Rather she’d leave the creation or whatever the hell she was with a backhanded comment.

”Tell your owner that he’s a lucky man. Now take your leave before I change my mind.” She then pulled from that dark place that fantasized about burning their lives to the ground by Jack.

With a few words and a slight touch of his hand, she returned to the realm of not plotting the vivid and painful destruction of two random people she had just met. In retrospect she was a bit embarrassed that the habits of her old days had flared up as intensely as they had. Almost ashamed that Jack’s thought process was to just rough them up a bit and hers was an all out scorched earth campaign to ruin their lives and the lives of their loved ones before either killing or brutally maiming them. There was shame beneath the mask for only a moment. She was trying to leave that person behind and Jack helped immensely in that.

But before she could thank him, that’s when it happened. In almost a cloud of magical energy, those magically attuned would be able to sense lackadaisical haze of almost pure debauchery that could rival that of a pantheon of party gods. He had arrived, and Blonde was lucky enough to be wearing her mask that blocked psychic energies from infiltrating her mind. On the drop of a dime the party instantly turned up to eleven as that haze of unseen energy slipped into the weak minds of various party goers to amplify those thoughts and actions of hedonistic desire. Drugs, sex, and music all rose to a fevered pitch as he strolled in.

Solomon the PlanesWalker, a magic user of great power and ability. With a drink in one hand and beautiful red haired woman on the other he strolled into the house on the hill and immediately became the center of attention. Blonde first reaction though wasn’t to spring into action, it was to check on Jack. She knew that his mind was anything but weak but even a lower level spell like this cast from a wizard like him was still formidable enough for a wave of ambrosia and euphoric laced energy to get the better of people. It was a wise move for Solomon, she was sure he had plenty of enemies and if there were others here looking to do something tonight he would of pacified the threat in one swoop without wasting a perfectly good party.

”Charm spell, are you ok?” She asked Jack with concern in her robotic voice.

”The party has arrived everyone!” Solomon shouted nearly at the top of his lungs before downing his drink and doing a line of snuff powder off his companions bare chest.

What a dick. Blonde thought to herself.

Of course John had felt the effects of the charm spell as soon as the man had walked in the room, but he wasn't about to loose control of himself. He had learned to reign in his impulses a long time ago, made sure that he was in control of them and not the other way around. Frankly, he would have described the spell as a rookie move if the wizard had harbored any illusions of going unnoticed. Throwing out a big obvious spell like that was like putting up a big flashing sign announcing his presence to anybody paying attention. Sure, most of the people here were happy to loose themselves in their own debauchery, but against people who could fight off the effects, it was a bad move.

Still, none of this was to say that he was completely unaffected by the spell, and he got up and pressed into Blonde, letting one hand snake around her waist before leaning down to whisper something only she could hear.

"When this is over I'm going to take you home and have you..."

He let her go and stood beside her, "But first we have a job to do. How do you want to play this?"

Dante was sitting in a chair when he felt a weird magical presence come from the entrance. Normally it wouldn't bother him but this one made him feel slightly off. 'Why do I feel like not drinking?' He shrugged and kept drinking his alcohol as eventually the effect left him. It wasn't like him to let things bother him that were small.

Sasha was on her way to find Dante when she saw the front door open and this weird guy do some weird stuff. However she did feel an incredibly strong magical presence coming from him. With a shrug she walked over to Dante and sat on the arm of the chair. "Very strong wizard here. Presumably illusion magic going to work right now." She made sure that only Dante could hear her.
