Beaten, but not Defeated [Artifact Hunt for Sword of Sunlight]

Recommended Posts

They pounced from the shadows. Several savage, mindless things that craved blood, and were looking to acquire it from them. Frustration and anger flooded his every being as yet another distraction was keeping him from his prize.

"I grow tired of being interrupted by vampires!" With rage boiling he roared in anger, the fire within him burning bright.

Roaring with fiery passion, the titanic tyrant sent forth a great wave of flames to consume the undead. Screeching voices filled the air, and two of the vampires were killed instantly, with the others still alive, if not scorched a great deal. While they writhed on the ground, Feurerkonig approached, an ax in each hand, ready to tear them limb from limb.

"I am going to take great pleasure in hacking away each one of your limbs!"

"I see," the Mistress spoke after a while. "Still fiery as ever."

However, the time for bad puns is over as the other vampires were aiming for the woman. Sadly, their aims were unfairly denied by the spirit guardian angel protrecting the woman. That huge hulkung warrior is punching all these vampires left and right. One fist is enough to crush skin, flesh, and even bones. A few month back, this would not have been possible but after acquiring a black exalta prism, the Mistress has more than enough energy to keep sustaining this monster. It was a simple belt draped around her waist, one that holds the black exalta prism and six other plain exalta prisms. It was her personal external power source allowing her to harness the energy that power airships for her everyday sorcery.

As for the Fire King's heat, the Mistress was already prepared for it. As long as it is not a direct attack on her, she can manage redirecting the flow of these heat vectors to bend pass here, granting her this small sphere of safety. All she needed is five meters. That is the effective range of all her defensive spells and her guardian angel.

"We really should get going."

"Yes, these worms were an insult to what it means to be an enemy." The corpses burning on the ground behind him weren't nearly as strong as Cain. He wasn't even as strong as Cain, he would never be as strong...

Stop it! He scolded himself, shaking away the bad thoughts, his fists tightening in anger. Even the sweet taste of victory was nothing but ashes in his mouth because of that bastard, because of all of them. Stalking off from the scene of battle, they continued to search for the location of the legendary Sunlight Sword.

The whisp lead them into what looked to be a cavern, carved from the fallen skeletons of once mighty buildings of the clock work city. "So this is where it lies..."

The Mistress shrugged. Was the man looking for a stronger enemy? But she knew that the Fire King's record in Terrenus were anything short of stellar. She could not remember a time where he actually proved his marital prowess against a stronger foe. Or is her feeling true emptiness after facing against such overwhelming enemies?

But she had more pressing concerns at the moment. The wisp is leading them deeper and deeper into the city it seemed they might find the sword any time now. The ease of finding such a powerful object made the Mistress worry. It can't be this simple and easy given the immense might of the sister blade.

Pursing her lips in thought, the Mistress trailed after the hulking Fire King. She had every right to show concern. After all, she is still one of the leading artifact hunters. When it comes to exploration, she's a veteran. Stuff like this always had a catch and she's not going to be caught off-guard for whatever is coming.

"Ware, Fire King. The search is too easy. Perhaps there's something else to this artifact that we did not know."

Though dark and narrow, the passageway seemed large enough to accommodate them. Heavy footsteps thud against the broken mortar and glass, giving sound to the progress being made within the tunnel. It was only a matter of time before they arrived at the end of their path, revealing just exactly what was being hidden underneath the tons of fallen structures.

"There, this must be the place where the sword resides." After turning through a corner, they found it, the remains of what looks to be a vault. Inscribed were multiple languages, all pulsing with magical power. At the center of the massive black container was a circular lock, one which looked to be in its active position. "There is nothing that will keep me away from my prize!"

1509773020910.jpgThe Mistress shook her head at the impatient Fire King. The man might be a powerful being but definitely not the brightest one out there.

"I'm sorry, old friend, but there is something that will keep you off your prize."

A sad truth, especially when reality is a harsh master. The lock, as the Mistress expected is very sturdy and no amount of fire power would be enough to destroy it.

"This seal is not something that can be broken down physically of magically. I would go so far as to call it a conceptual seal, perhaps a barrier with set parameters and tunnel-vision."

She snickered then as if remembering something funny.

"I think we might need to find the key."

"Of course. There is always something in the way, always a new obstacle..." When his rage abated, he saw the truth in it. Still determined to obtain his prize, the fire king turned to the Mistress, nodding to her plan. "Let us go and find this key then."

"Leaving so soon? How rude..."

The voice came from above them, the ceiling was in complete darkness, but it was no ordinary darkness. It writhed, wiggled and began to descend down towards them, tendrils moving downward as if to grab at them. Feurerkonig knew the disgusting stench of Whispernight, and felt the rush of battle surging inside him.

"Do not fret, I will make your deaths quick and painless. Fear makes the meat very tough and sour..."

The key. It can't be that far.

Her lips pursed in thought. The sister blades were always found in the most absurd settings and situations. Not even the old fogey, Lord Suzy, with all his knowledge, can ascertain when and where one can be found.

A very tricky bunch.

Still, they needed to be wary. As far as the Mistress understood, the city of Talix-Engine will never run out of monsters to kill. The Whispernight curse can attest to that. Now that they have to face another monster again, the woman merely stood back watching  from the sides.

The Fire King should be more than confident enough to handle these enemies.

With every monster he killed within this wretched place, Feurerkonig felt his confidence return piece by piece. Truly he would find this trifling thing an easy target, and so he summoned forth the fire within himself and flooded the ceiling with burning red and orange. The howls and cries it made were incredibly satisfying, making the disappointment of the locked vault that much less hurtful.

"The key must be here somewhere. We have to keep searching for it."

A quiet fell over the steel clad warrior, one that left him feeling pensive. This sword was his destiny, his redemption, and his greatest glory. To be denied this was not an option, and he was determined to rip apart this city until he found.

Before the Fire King turned the whole place into an oven, the Mistress too had her fair share of problems. This creeping darkness is an enemy that she knew too well. It brought about this thick, suffocating feeling, something she was all too familiar with. A darkness similar to the cartel's mindscape.

It was a fascinating notion and as the pressure rose, so too did the woman's amusement. Her body, however, exhibited a different reaction. It glowed in response to the enveloping darkness, the radiant light pushing the darkness away.

When the Fire King turned up the heat, thw Mistress is more than prepared. She can already sense the energy building up on the man, and when the heat came so too did the woman take action. Her eyes can see the the waves and vectors that the heat energy travels. Before it reached her, the woman simply willed each wave and vector to bend around her figure.

When everything passed, the woman known as the Mistress spoke. "Fire King, shall we look for the key now?"
