The Queen's Garden - Survival Story

~*~

The Warlord, Malice, has left the Summer Isles. In the wake of his absence, the delicate balance between dark and light La’Ruta has been thrown asunder. The prophecy of the Mother and Father, which seemed fulfilled, is once more settling into obscurity, slowly being forgotten by all -- save one.

Gabriela, with the help of Jericho Estelle-Negra, has been diligently studying to better understand and control her grasp over the darker side of Orisia’s magic, in an attempt to fully encompass the authoritative figure that should command the island’s unique powers. But she is struggling.

La’Ruta, as the Black Queen understands it, is capable of bringing flowers to bloom, enriching life and exaggerating its presence in unimaginable ways. It is said that one with particular mastery over La’Ruta can even bring the dead back to life.

During a small experiment, where Gabriela attempts to rush a plant from seedling to blooming flower, and into stages of decay, she commits a foolish accident. A drop of her blood and the caress of dark La’Ruta is all it takes to imbue the plant with vampyric traits. The newly-created specimen seems borderline intelligent as it spreads its infection to a select few other plants, and then manages to somehow enclose itself, with a number of victims, within the thick crystal and metal walls of the Solarium de las Ciencias Flora.

This is an interest check for a survival type quest. Open to 2-3 players, this story will be all about survival. The Black Queen’s Solarium has been the scene of multiple attacks, and therefore was built to be nearly indestructible. Because it houses very deadly and rare plants, it was re-imagined as a stronghold for these living treasures. Getting out will not be easy.

The only way out is by opening a door -- opening it properly. The walls cannot be broken and the doors cannot be unhinged. A key is required, but it must be retrieved from Asha-Kwame Imani’s office -- the keeper of the Solarium. Her current status is unknown. Her office is located at the very top level of the solarium.

The facility is open to the public during normal business hours, and remains one of the capital city’s most visited sites. Players will be trapped with a number of NPC characters, which you can rescue or dispose of however they like. I’ll be playing the blood thirsty flowers, the trapped Black Queen, and the keeper of the solarium, Asha-Kwame.

Opening post is up:

The setting is essentially an indoor botanic garden. It's massive, with full grown trees growing inside and many paths leading through the interior to various open exhibits. Most plants are arranged in a natural way and are accessible to everyone, but a few dangerous species are kept behind glass. Visible from the ground level is an intricate upper level where the laboratories are located (about six stories up), and above that, the private offices of those who run the Solarium. These upper floors are accessible only by staircases, which there are two of, one on each side of the building.

@Pasion Pasiva You're telling me blood-thirsty vampiric like plants has trapped countless dozens of innocents within a facility?

Sounds like a job for the VCF!

What do you think of Agent Rookstone being sent in with 5 armed men to try to negotiate and purchase, if not threaten Asha-Kwame, for the acquisition of the solarium for the foundation? After all, risky plants that has a high connection to magic and has the potential to wipe out hundreds, and revive the dead? Sounds like something worth containing and researching!

But this is given of course that the status of Asha-Kwame is only known to a select few. Agent Rookstone could even go in blind and not even know if Asha-Kwame is in the solarium or not! Or maybe he can even start off already on his way to the office, with armed men trailing behind him unsettling Gabriel and Jericho as they walk pass. Maybe once the crisis starts and everyone is trapped, Rookstone and his men will have to find a way and escort her out of the Solarium?

What do you think? 😄 I'm all ears for adjustments to the setting I've proposed. Too much? Too little? Too op maybe?

I absolutely love your idea. Specifically, that Rookstone may be inadvertently responsible for helping the crisis start by bumping/startling Gabriela when she is trying to dispose of the fledgling vampyric plant. The time line has to be adjusted though. The vampyric flower was *just* created, so there's no way Rookstone would know about it and be on his way to aquire it. However, the Solarium is very well known for housing a multitude of rare and very dangerous plants. It could simply be a matter of him and his team trying to aquire some other plant or intelligence (which would put them in the right place at the right time). My only other issue is that Orisia is a very rudimentary setting. La'Ruta will not allow high technological items to work properly. This doesn't mean the people pf Orisia are not aware of high tech, they simply live ina place where it doesn't work. Personally, I think it may play out very interestingly to have men who depend on gagets and weapons reduced to more hand-to-hand comabtic tactics.

That's sounds great! No need for adjusting, I think the other plants on the Solarium would be sufficient cause for the VCF's involvement! And don't worry. The VCF has sites and facilities in EVERY continent of Valucre, meaning it's very much well adjusted to the conditions of genesaris, no less Orisia 😄 Usually in these more rural areas where their high-tech weapons break down and contact to the outside world is nearly non-existant, the VCF relies on Magitech or pure magic to replace the aspects they cannot fulfil with technology alone. Granted this will severely weaken their potential combat strength, evident by how Rookstone is only going to be wielding a simple revolver into the Solarium with only a few handful of different ammunition types and his men are armed with simple semi-automatic concussion magitech rifles. After all, it's not their call to kill anyone, not that they can't 😉. They are also equipped with the standard-issue VCF multi-combat blade, essentially a slightly bigger more versatile machete so maybe if the plants say... get the jump on them and take away their weapons, they'd be left to melee to defend themselves!

Would this work? I'm already excited at the prospect of the plot ahead!

So my only concern (and it is hardly a concern because I think we can work around it) is that Orisian magic is unique from any other magic found on Genesares. So while VCF may have weapons that are specific for the magic of the mainland they technically should not work in Orisia. Mostly, it's just meant to be a fun plot device. What do people do when all their nifty gadgets and weapons are gone. I personally would love to see the weapons malfunctioning in hilarious ways. However, if you really want to have them then by all means simply say that the weapons were modified to work with Ls'Ruta. You'll just need a little background about how an agent has actually spent some time studying the magic and trying to figure out how to use up. You know what I mean, just a not of acknowledgment to the lore will me happy.

Other than that, hell yeah... Welcome aboard. I love the idea of some SWAT like team on their own agenda getting trapped along with the Black Queen and a handful of other people.

Save us!

Sounds great! And being honest I'm into the idea of that too 😄 I definitely will write down something along the lines of a plant threatening to kill one of the members, him aiming the rifle then the concussion blast instead of going out of the barrel, reverses it's charge and knocks the guy out instead!

I'll have a post up as soon as I wake! Can't wait 🙂

Yes! And my post is mostly written out in my head. Won't take me long to get it down. I think we are just waiting on one more person.
