An Imperial Message

Recommended Posts

The Emperor was too busy following his brief meeting of Aelindra's Head Chancellor, Alfonso. However, his interest had not been satisfied. He wished to know more about Aelindra, it's people and it's leadership; And surely they wished to know as much about the Dynasty. For that purpose, a Shinobi was elected to act as Emissary on Koji's behalf. Tasked with traveling to the Rising West to deliver word of the Emperor's interests. Entrusted solely with this task was Otomaru, the heir to the Owari namesake and legacy. One of the last of a dying breed of Shinobi. Typically, a Shinobi was a concealer of their own identity. For the sake of some semblance of transparency, he operated today with his given name only, though kept with the wearing of a mask. In other circumstances he'd be here with his face exposed, using some alias. Though this method seemed most honest. After all, there was only one Otomaru in all of Jigoku.

Simply walking the road leading to Aelindra's City limits, Otomaru kept his senses sharp about him. Though the trip had been quiet, he was certain there were plenty of enemies growing against the Emperor, and could never be to cautious when it came to being aware of one's surroundings. Likewise, the Owari had their own personal enemies and rivals to look out for, namely the rabid dogs of the Okami. He'd lie even to himself however, if he said he wasn't momentarily distracted by the view of the city from this distance. The way the sun reflected off of the shiny golden and metallic surfaces made it seem as if the city itself was shining radiantly. He imagined that this is what the kingdoms of the celestials and the heavens appeared like. Remaining over all focused on his task, Otomaru continued traversing the lands to reach his destination. If there was no gate to check into, then he'd merely figure out where he could find Alfonso, or perhaps even the entire council.

What would greet the intrepid Emissary would be tall walls, strong and faultless in its ingenuity, large gates showing the workmanship and great detail that Aelindrian architecture is known for. The guards, in their military uniforms and bearing the latest magi-tech weaponry would stop, check him and then allow him on through. Of course not without some guidance with directions. A job they often found themselves doing. “If you are looking for were the council is located follow the main road, it will be the largest one in the city, or you can take one of the cabs there.” One guard said, pointing towards one of many civilian airships parked. “It’ll be the largest building in the center of the city.” The guard motioned for the man to continue on, though a little suspicious of the masked man they had no need to be worried. Aelindra itself did not boast a civilian police force, rather it’s military personnel patrolled the streets, keeping citizens safe from any ne'er-do-wells.

“Also the market is along the main street, there will also be signs that will guide you if you decide to go on foot, though you could take the tram or as before a cab.”

Once past the main gates the masked Emissary would see the trams, along with the parking area for the cabs, on the main road the more terrestrial vehicles were going back and forth primarily spellcycles. Pedestrians were in droves, a sea of people moving to do their business. Whatever the new arrival decided he would have plenty to see and do. Aside from the civilians military personnel could be seen patrolling the streets, they had the look of professional soldiers further proven by the hardened looks in their eyes.

The city itself was quite something to behold, skyscrapers of glittering gold and polished glass, rising up into the skies as if to defy even deities. It is an example of both wealth and deserved pride, should he take to the cabs he would even get to see the cities splendor with an eagle eyed view.

As the he reached the gates, the Shinobi willingly allowed the guards to search him. To his surprise they allowed him entrance without confiscating his weapons; Though he almost sure that they allowed him to keep them either because they were wise enough to know he didn't need them to engage in his profession, or because they were just that sure of their defenses. Perhaps a combination of the two.

"Many thanks."

Was all he managed to respond before moving along as directed. As much as he might have enjoyed walking the town, enjoying it a bit even, he was here on official business. Tasked with acting as the Emperor's voice, as well as his ears. Opting instead to take a ride in one of the cabs available, Otomaru entered it before directing the driver as to where to take him. Perhaps another time he might take a stroll around this beautiful city, and enjoy it without the hassle of his occupation. For now, he'd have to settle for the minimal sight seeing opportunity afforded to him from the comfort of this cab.

When the masked man came up to his cab he at first thought a festival would be coming up, though he quickly came to understand that it might simply be the man’s quirky fashion. Once there were in the cab, and directions given he started the exalta engine. With a hum the liquidized Exalta brought the airship to life, its salerian steel frame softly vibrated from the magical power coursing from its engine and then as smooth as silk if took off from the ground. What would meet the visitor’s eyes would be a full view of Aelindra’s cityscape. Its skyscrapers of glittering gold and glass seemed to spark the city with life. Every glint, from the building to the towering statue of Zare seemed to impress upon one the feeling of awe. The very ity seemed to shout at the sky, ‘even man can reach these heights’. Often the words over compensating or even excess touched the ips of many foreigners like those in the North and even their own allies the South. Yet for all their words none of their cities could match the divine scene that Aelindra seemed to give.

“You must be new to Aelindra, most people in Genesaris have visited at least once or twice before. Often leaving in wonder might I add.” The driver’s words carried with it a distinct national pride that all Aelindra’s citizens had for the city. It was their great Republic and it had been built by their hands from every road to skyscraper, down to even the forested parks and rivers. “If you look out that window you’ll see the statue of Zare, he is our national god and father of mankind in Genesaris.”  From the window the emissary would see the statue, it was a giant thing standing even taller than some of the most impressive buildings in the city, but at the same time humble. It wasn’t made from gold or other precious metals, instead of finely wrought marble did the proud cloaked and bearded figure stand.

In the right hand of the statue was an orb seemingly made of bronze polished to a high sheen which caused the sun’s rays to glitter across it as if the surface of the orb was like the ocean. It its left hand was a humble staff, curved like a shepherd's crook, so humble was the staff it pales in comparison with the statue itself and even the cityscape surrounding it. Yet so finely detailed it looked as if some ancient tree had been carved to make it. Perhaps it was wood, or perhaps like the statue, so finely sculpted it looked to be alive.

“Oh! We’re almost there,” said the humble driver.

Below was the grand building, the senate and the seat of power for the citizenry of Aelindra. It was a massive complex of roman, baroque, and gothic architecture. Its dome’s gilded in gold and finely crafted marble of the most pristine white. Below the tiny dots that moved proved that the building did not see simply those in political power but even the citizenry for there were far too many to count.

“We’ll be landing, when you get off just follow the road or just follow anyone there as all people must walk through the great entrance as equals.” Slowly the craft descended into the landing plaza, there his was not the only and, many others landed while some took off speeding away their passengers to their next order of business. The landing was as gentle as a breeze another testament to the seriousness which the Aelindrian engineers took in their painstaking efforts to produce only the best. Exciting the cab the driver quickly opened the door for his passenger. “Oh and no need to pay this is my treat!” The jovial man gave the emissary a big smile and a hearty laugh. “Now be warned though, don’t cause any trouble the military has a heavy presence here as the Council is holding meeting with any willing citizen and guest. Though if you do have serious business then once inside head to the reception areas you’ll find signs to guide you there.

With that he left the man, his airship quickly taking off into the blue expanse of the sky.

A young journeyman with chin length golden tresses who weighed seventy three kilograms, standing one hundred seventy five point twenty six centimeters tall, could be seen walking toward the city of Aelindra.

He wore a white face plate made of porcelain resembling the face of a fox with red splotches of blood on its cheeks and mouth.

Leather leggings adorned his lower half.

Harnessed to his back by a cloth strap, an iron Claymore as long and thick as he with a wooden cross guard and a steel pole for a handle.

The ninja in training went forth to the front gates, ready to raise Cain.

While short lived, the ride provided a grand overview of the entire city. He certainly had never seen anything like it up close before, having never been to the rising west. When they begrudgingly arrived at their destination, the Shinobi found himself humbled by the driver's generosity. He attempt to remove his pouch to dig out some gold coins to at least tip his generously in a show of what he felt was adequate gratitude. If the driver denied him the chance to tip, then it simply could not be helped. Regardless, he thanked him again and put his coin pouch away once more. Entering the city's largest building, it was just as the driver had told him. There were almost immediately signs available to get him moving in the right direction. As he walked, the Shinobi obviously stuck out like a sore thumb, though he didn't let the awkward stares of the occasional passerby rouse him. If they could see his eyes beneath that mask, surely he was just as taken aback by the average appearance of the natives. Without hesitation, he continued forth unless his path became impeded. Otherwise he inevitably made it to where this meeting was taking place.

The streets were crowded around the senate building, people moved with both the purpose of politics as well as tourism. The masked emissary would fins that he was not the only foreigner to visit the senate this day. Of course many of the foreigners would be loath to set foot into the complex itself. Many coming from the surrounding empires such as the East or even the Carmine’s newly acquired Northern provinces. Of course this was not the only thing of note, unlike the Empires of Genesaris there wasn’t simply the rich and those in power everyone from all stripes from the rich to the poor rubbed elbows in this place. Though Aelindra had the poor it was not like the Empires or other city states, the poor would be the middle class of many of the other countries and that was evident by their demeanor and dress. As the emissary continued on he would see statues of past councillors primarily those dating back to the founding of the city itself.

From lord Aelindra himself to the men and women of the founding noble houses each one in striking clarity and skill.

Aside from that was the military presence that pervaded the center of Aelindra politics. Soldiers marched in ordered fashion, and in heavier numbers than the city proper the emissary has left. Law and Order was enforced by the mere presence of military personnel. So long as disputes began and ended with only words there would be no problems. Of course as a civilized society that placed the importance of debating ideas rather than shutting them down there was hardly ever any physical altercations. As the masked visitor made his way to the central building the presence of people only grew more as did the military.

The large doors were open as if inviting all to come and speak of their ideals and even debate others. An open forum of civilized conversation speaking of true freedom that the republic held in high regard. As the man entered the cacophony of voice would pervaded the space as people debated or discussed in the halls. Military lined the walls and patrolled the corridors and halls in absolute silence. This was a place given almost a religious reverence. From the common man to the wealthy each one stood in circles debating as equals. This was the inner working of Aelindrian politics, the gears that kept the city going forwards as well as the bastion of true civic duty and freedom.

Further down the main hall supported by ancient pillars both in reality and figuratively he would find the amphitheater hundreds if not thousands sat seated listening to the main topics of the day, from civic funding to military all were discussed in this room. In the center sat seven large and uncomfortable looking chairs. Not thrones, but simple humble chairs of wood were the seat of the council. Today was only one man, Alfonso the head of the council. He sat there attentively listening to a simple and humbly dressed man, both seemed to be in conversation as the rest of the members held there own private conversations.

After a minute it seemed that Alfonso and the man’s conversation had ended, and it looked to be quite positive as the citizen left with a smile on his face and walking past the emissary with a skip in his step. “If any others have something to speak with me about step up, we welcome both the citizenry as well as those foreign visitors gracing us today.” His voice echoed through the space, those in conversation in the tiered seats quieted down waiting for the next visitor.

As he traversed the lavish architecture, he observed his surroundings and the on goings there of. He couldn't help wondering what it was the Emperor wished to accomplish with these people. The differences between their two nations seemed rather vast, and he questioned just how well the two were capable of working together. Regardless, he was here with purpose, purpose that had little to nothing to do with his opinions. Not like he knew much about Aelindra personally. After all, it was easy to get lost in your own country and it's affairs. When he finally reached his ultimate destination, he entered silently. The talks at hand didn't take too terribly long to wrap, in which Alfonso announced that the floor was open to any others that wished to take it. The masked emissary looked to and fro to ensure that no one else was attempting to seize the spotlight.

“If any others have something to speak with me about step up, we welcome both the citizenry as well as those foreign visitors gracing us today.”

Stepping forth, the shinobi made his way to the forefront. When he came to a halt once more, he took a deep bow, hinging at the waist and pausing in it's apex. With respect properly delivered in kindness to the sort he'd show to his own superiors, government or otherwise, he stood erect once more a cleared is throat with a hand raised to his mask.

"My name is Otomaru Owari, Shinobi to the Datsuzoku Dynasty; Though today I am acting as emissary on behalf of the Emperor Koji himself."

He paused, his hand clasping before his waist.

"Perhaps your council members in the New Union City have kept you up to speed on the ways the nation is changing, as well as the alignment and intent of my Emperor. I'm also told you met with the Heika briefly during his visit to the Hanami festival in the east. However, just in case anything is unclear thus far, I'd like to share his vision with you before proceeding. Genesaris is a country with rich and diverse history. Union City used to be a beacon of unity, though the years have not been kind, and the powers that be have been soft. Coming from a past of greed himself, the Heika feels personally attached to these lands, comparing them to himself. As he has liberated himself, he seeks to liberate the people of Genesaris, and ultimately the peoples of this entire world; He seeks to re-establish true unity, while also breaking the fallacy of order imposed thus far. He wishes to tear down so that he might rebuild a true paradise. One where all can be truly free, where all may live comfortably and pursuit happiness.

To those ends, I humbly appear here today to express the Emperor's interest in working with you to see this vision come to fruition. Seers and Oracles tell us of the future, a future in which he succeeds regardless of support or adversity to be faced. He sincerely wished to be here meeting with you himself, though I'm sure you of all persons understand the tole leadership takes on one's personal desires. In the simplest terms permit-able, the Datsuzoku is offering a stance of alliance along side Aelindra. Thus far, the Emperor has managed to align the Datsuzoku with The Grand Kommandant of Renovatio, in which they've afforded us nothing by their undying support; Especially in out expansion throughout Oo'Xora of Nehalen. Likewise, despite the untimely demise of the late Emperor Titus, his Empress has graciously allowed relations between the Taen Empire of Fracture (Terrenus)."

Pausing, he allowed the information to be digested a brief moment before continuing.

"As far as enemies are concerned, it appears that our presence has gained the ire of a few of our neighbors. While we remain rather neutral to the Carmine, there is little to no doubt in my mind that conflict will arise between them and ourselves. Our history with the Imperial South has proven to be inconsistent, by which I mean that the late God-Emperor as his followers called him graciously gifted the Heika in the beginning, yet sullied any chances of cohesion during his reign. Regardless of if relations between the nations can be salvaged, the Heika perosonally only hold a grudge to Corvinus directly. The Hyperion Empire has had somewhat of a love hate relationship with the Datsuzoku as well, though the Heika too wishes to salvage relations with them.

He didn't mention that the Empress Raveena was technically Koji's aunt. Not because he wished to omit any information, yet because he simply didn't see such detail as important to share. Regardless of personal relationships, the Emperor Koji had a plan, and he was sticking to it. Even his own kin technical or even literal was expendable should they oppose his ambitions. With his speech complete for the moment, he let silence take the floor, awaiting Alfonso's response. All the while he studied the mans expressions and body language for any signs of his reception prior to hearing his thoughts.

Alfonso would give the man a polite nod as he bowed, one could say that the man displayed proper etiquette if not slightly archaic in nature. He did find the dress of the man odd, if not slightly out of style in the Midlands former mode of clothing. Still, he would not begrudge a burgining culture from his small understanding of it. What his Councilmen apprised him in the changes of Union City were vague at best, he knew some of the policies but still it was not enough for him to make any real judgements on the matter. As the man introduced himself he would find that al the eyes were on him, the senate all had curious expressions that were plain to see.

“Greetings mister Owari. On behalf of the Aelindra Council, senate and citizenry of our fair city I welcome you.”

As he listened, his affable smile never faded from the corner of his lips. Alfonso listened intently and with great interest. The man’s speech was certainly interesting, through it he gleaned more about their new ruler’s disposition. He nodded when the man mentioned his brief meeting with his Emperor during the festival but maintained his silence so as to fully absorb what the man was saying. The emissary spoke of his lords vision yet his face and body language still seemed to show nothing, instead the gears began to turn as he listened. Truly the Western members of Union City’s council had told him of the surprising events, as well as the speed in which the man took claim over the city. It was quite fast, and the events leading up to it were suspicious, ones that he felt strongly that the Heika had manipulated the events from the background. Though he could not blame the man. Union City had grown soft, much to the chagrin of the Western members and if anything the greedy members of the council would carry much of the blame.

When the emissary spoke of the attachment his master had for the land Alfonso did not chuckle nor show any disbelief or unnatural expression he merely kept that ever present smile as he nodded, listening intently. Whether he believed it or not remained to be seen yet the politeness he displayed was perhaps the most telling of his prowess in politics. Eery was how easily he hid his thoughts, his smile was natural and seemed to come easily. When he heard the Emperor’s desire for unity he mused about such a fallacy, the people of Genesaris were separated not by simple borders but by culture. The west valued self determination and governance, the rest are subservient to governmental powers, thus the rise of the multitude of empires.

The west remained the only place in which a free people ruled themselves, a place where the city states held the ideals of a republic to its core. Unifying Genesaris into one group even through the use of force would only set the smoldering flames of rebellion. The man spoke of paradise, a utopia but the Councilman knew that such a thing could never exist. Conflict was human nature and any utopia would ultimately fall. People who choose safety and happiness over liberty deserve neither. A utopia would only flounder in corruption and stagnate, there would be no innovation as conflict ultimately spurs the creative mind. What ran through his mind never touched his countenance, he still remained as ever attentive to the man’s words. The smissary spoke honeyed words full of a promised paradise, but peace and happiness can never be obtained through the ideals of global unity.

The man’s next words sparked a few murmurs from the seated senators, holding up a hand they quieted down as he allowed the man to continue. Alfonso had already predicted the direction the man was going. The Midland’s Emperor wanted to unify the whole world. Such a thing was not possible, not even a god or devil could do it. Terrenus and Genesaris had vastly different cultures, not to mention the people remember the invasion of the Saint King’s. Renovation too was vastly different, though the relationship was not sour like with Terrenus they were in effect wholly incompatible. Alliances could be formed, even friendly relations but never true union.  Still he did not dismiss the man he simply listened and waited. As the man spoke of Oracles and Seers, these were things Alfonso did not put much stock in. Seers and Oracles could be wrong as the future is always changing only the past was set in stone.

As the man paused Alfonso simply digested the speech.

Then he continued.

The relations between the Midlands and the Carmine empire were certainly neutral, but who knew how long that would last. The South was already an ally of the West, along with Renovatio, Kadia and the Force Majeure. He already had a great understanding of his continent geopolitical issues both positive and negative. Still he listened quietly as the man gave more detail to the relations between them and the other nations. Most was what he already knew, especially the sour relationship between the Cold South and the Midlands. The relationship between Hyperion and the Midlands was new information, one he would keep a keen eye on. He already knew of the self styled Queen Raveena and he lustful desire over the West. One he was keen on thwarting if the need arises.

Once the man finished it was now Alfonso’s turn.

“That is quite a lot of information my friend, one I and my compatriots will have to digest in the coming days, as well as deliberate. We will certainly accept the alliance between the Midlands and the West. Since the days of the Civil War we fought alongside the Cold South before the Southern Empire arose. Tensions between us, the East and North have persisted since all those decades ago. We know well the all consuming desire of the Carmine Empire’s need to rule. Our eyes have been ever watchful over Hyperion, they are new and though they hold the monarchical system we do not interfere with their internal politics, nor have any desire to. As to your explanation of your Emperor’s intentions I will personally visit Union City to speak with your master. In fact I shall be ready to head there within the hour, there is much you explained but I feel it best to meet him and speak to him in more detail as our encounter was brief. If you would like, you may take the journey with me, my Airship could have us there within a few hours.”

He was brief but he made the offer, within the hour he could speak to the council and be ready to leave immediately. “Of course you are welcome to stay for as long as you like, and even send word of my intention to journey there post haste.”

"While the Council still stands in the New Union City, the formal capitol of The New Union Frontier is the Imperial City of Jigoku. The council is headed by a Shogun of the Dynasty, though the Emperor himself resides in his pagoda near the heart of Jigoku."

His keen eyes watched his facial expressions and posture for any disturbance that may have struck a cord in him. Surely the council members responsible for the West have communicated of the Datsuzoku presence well established to the east of this very city. The shinobi was beyond forming opinions of political climates between neighbors of this continent, though he was almost certain that the Dynasty would inevitably stand alone in it's ideals. Still, the powers that be here were willing to extend a hand of friendship; Even if it was mostly just a fulfillment of personal means. Surely more would be learned between this man, and the Ryu Kotei himself.

"The architecture of my home is a bit more behind the times than the treasure this City reflects, though I'm sure the atmosphere with please your eyes all the same. The palace is capped with a foreign substance that is unnaturally hot and gives the illusion of flames on it. Though these flames do not burn to the touch...As much as I might enjoy an extended stay within your city limits, I am still a man of service. Perhaps in the future I might find the leisure time to properly enjoy what Aelindra has to offer. I of course thank you for your extended hospitality. Instead I request as much as I offer to ride back to Jigoku in your company. Even unannounced I'm certain the Heika will be pleased with your visit."
